GOod luck!!! I was discharged this Saturday from the Hospital. I was able to shower the day after surgery (Friday) they covered my IV site, and the JP port. they said clean gently around the bandages and when you get out we will pull them off, only leaving the steristrips intact and we will change your dressing to the jp port. I felt very comfortable because after my shower I was able to put on my bra! my underwear and pajama bottoms. I folded them far under my belly button so they wouldnt irriatte the incision. The jp port under my breast was also low enought that my bra was not in the way of any of the incisions. I just had the gown on and when I walked in the hallways I felt more covered up and also didnt feel like my breast were flopping in evry direction! Also when I left I was instructed I can shower daily, and was given extra dressing to change the bandage over the jp site until it closed on its own. I also packed light. 2 underwear, bra, my clothes i had on and extra pair of bottoms,toiletries, my hair accessories, besides my purse:)

So here is what happened: On the day of my surgery (this past Thursday) I was in my room and had been awake about 5 hrs after my surgery. I was being well taken care if by the AM nurses who had me starting on chips of ice they were so VERY SWEET AND SO GENTLE WITH ME. I was also given a pain medicine thru IV 3 times within an hr and half since they only lasted about 30 min before it wore off. Before the last dose of the 3 i received was given to me there was a shift change with the NUrses. I remember the AM nurse coming into the room to dismiss herself and introduce the pm NUrse. BEtween both they administed the last 30 min IV med, helped me to the bathroom, and walked with me for about 5 min, in the hallway. About 45 min later I was back in my room with horrible gas/back pains and feeling nauseated. I called for the nurse. I was responded thru the mic that she will be right in, SHe came in and was a little rude but I brushed it off. She gave me 2 oz of Water and asked me to sip it slowly for about 20 min. Once I was done, to call her again and she would start me on my oral liquid perkicet which was stronger and would last me about 4 hrs. I agreed. I did as she asked, PAged her the first time and they said they would let her know Im ready. 30 min went by I called again. They asked what is your nurses name I said Im not sure because she didnt write her name on the board and I only remembered the AM nurse I mentioned at this point I also need to go to the BR. they were kind and said ok we will figure things out. That lasted another 20 min. BY this time you can imagine how much pain I was in. my last Iv med had worn of alost an hr and a half ago. I paged the 3rd time almost 30 min later and again they said ok we let her know. she should be in shortly. well it took her 25 min to finally come in. When she finally came in (1 and half hr later) she didnt even say hi nor was she kind at all. IN front of my family the first words out of her mouth was "NOW WHAT?" this ticked me off and made me emotional. I told her I paged for you about 3 times an hour and a 1/2 ago, I drank the 2 oz of water like you asked, Ivebeen waiting for my pain meds, I need to got the the bathroom and Im in so much pain. she then answered me " well your not the only patient, and no one told me, plus I dont believe your in so much pain" I couldnt believe what she was telling me. I started to cry immediately and told her I am in horrible pain, I cant move without me screaming or yelping and I understand im not the only patient and yes I paged 3 times however if they didnt tell u maybe it because I didnt even know your name. you could have wrote it on the board. by this point she got more aggresive, rude and defensive. she said " well you just have to wait" My family became more upset seeing I was in pain and she was just standing there not even saying ok IM sorry, or let me get you meds. I was crying horribly now, feeling short of breath and I told her " i feel like you dont care and dont want to care for me, I would like to change nurses please or speak to the supervisor or charge nurse, I dont know why your still standing here and being so rude" she said " well i dont care if you want to switch nurses, now lets get up because didnt you say you needed to use the bathroom" I replied yes, but I have waited so long that I think I can wait a little bit untill you find me someone please. I swear I kept on being so polite and not being rude but she really had me so emotional. she kep on blabbing on andon saying you act like your the only patient blah blah blah, I ended up tell her "stop talking to me, Im not listening and IM not going to argue with you. so quit and find me a different nurse" she just snickered at me and then as she was walking out in front of my family said " like i said i dont care if you switch nurses I will tell a differrent nurse to come if there is one available and if they want to come" ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i swear as soon as she walked out I wish i had thrown a shoe at her!!!! My family and I were so upset, my husband more because I was crying and all!! I wanted to go home at that point and didnt care if I was dying of pain. LOng story short the charge nurse came in with in minutes with my pain meds , asked to speak to me privately with my family and we discussed what had happened. SHe apologized and helped me fill out a complaint form. she immediately took care of me the rest of the night. She was back in the AM and was again my nurse. I felt so well taken care of.

hey everyone!!!! So far my 2 days here at home have been a little hard due to the pain but I have been able to keep up with some of my walking:) My pain meds are due every 4 hrs but slowly I have been able to go about 5 1/2 hrs without it!! I'm toughing it out. Not to mention all the support and help I am receiving from my hubby and the rest of the family. They have come over to bring me or even make me some fresh chicken or vegatable broth. Very delicious. My bowel movements have started again. Ugh, dark and loose like expected the first day (saturday night) yesterday and today they are lighter and still a little loose. I sometimes have a little trouble keeping track of my Fluid intake. I soemtimes dont know how much I am actually drinking. I vary at times with crystal light, apple juice, jell-o, broth. Any suggestions?????? THanks everyone!!!!

Thanks:) I keep my water bottle very close. I also need to drink at least 4oz of juice a day... So apple juice is in the fridge:)

The day has finally came:) my surgery is in 5 hrs. Gotta check into hospital in3 hrs....oh my! I'm wide awake. Excite. Sacred, nervous, OMG!!

that is so sweet!!!! yeah i took my magnesium citrate today.....dont like it at all,,,, im so excited for 2morrow!!!!1

DOING THE HIGH LIQUID PROTEIN PRE OP DIET FOR ME WAS A LITTLE HARD! I FELT EXTREMELY GASY!!! I HAD TO ALWAYS TRY TO HIDE IN A CORNER OR IN THE BATHROOM!!! IT WAS HORRIBLE! MINE PLUS MY HUSBANDS, UGH!!!!

MY SURGERY IS TMORROW TOO!!!! 6/21 CHECKING IT AT 5AM FOR A 7AM SURGERY:) BEST OF LUCK!!!!

I love it!!!!! its good to know someone else is out there having the exact same surgery as me.... what time is yours? I have to be checked into the hospital by 5am. my surgery is at 7am. I will be checking for updates on here! so watch out for mine!!! where do u reside? im in minneapolis, mn

Just had my last Protein Shake of the day. 2morrow is day 10 and I'm on the Clear Liquids only...then the magnesium citrate o_0 Hope it goes Well:) I can't believe the day is almost here (Thursday).... It was hard enough stayin and feeling full with the Protein Shakes, Jello, popsicles, Water, coffee and cream, broth... Oh my tomorrow will be difficult

Hang in there. I used the protein shakes, the slimfast (generic). Broth, JELLO, water with Crystal light...try to avoid being around the temptation. Walk around.

I WENT for my pre op physical today and it went very Well I was really happy with my results. And What really put the icing on the cake was my Dr. said I lost 8.5 lbs since she last weighed me on this Monday when I started my 10day high Protein liquid diet! I was in shock I couldn't believe I lost that much... I don't think I Gave EVER LOST THIS MUCH IN AS LITTLE AS 5 DAYS! AND I STILL GOT ANOTHER 5 DAYS TO GO BEFORE MY SURGERY NEXT THURS. THE 21ST:) :)VERY EXCITED AND SO PROUD OF MYSELF...IT TRULY WAS HARD!

Thanks!!! I will be having Laproscopic!!!! As the day gets closer I AM BOTH NERVIOUS AND EXCITED!! 6/21 will always be a special day I think I will take you up on ur advice about a counselor or therapist. I can definitely benefit from one and having access to this website will help out a lot~~

I was was doing so good. I started my preop diet on Monday. I had a good routine in place because I was busy at work all week. I don't work weekends and yesterday and today were the hardest. I do all the cooking for my Hubby who is very active. I however not so much obviously if I'm getting surgery on Thursday. Long story short I cheated both yesterday and today. Yesterday was ok I took a few bites maybe 3 or 4 of my husbands Breakfast which was scrambled eggs with cheese. I had my shakes and drinks rest of day. Today however was worse. I had broth for breakfast and later a shake. Around noon we went out to run errands. We ended up at chipotle :'( my weakness. I ended up ordering with him a steak burrito with the works. I was only suppose to eat very little the half of half the burrito... By the time I knew it I ate pretty much the whole thing.... I felt so so so GUILTY I WANTED TO CRY. I. JUST HOPE THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN AFTER SURGERY. I GO BACK TO WORK THIS WEEK FOR 3DAYS SINCE MY SURGERY IS THIS THURSDAY.... WHAT SHOULD I DO? ANY ADVICE OR SUPPORT WILL HELP. THANKS:)

Welcome! I actually joined this website literally a few days ago via my cell phone> i was navigating in the app store for a protein tracker and this actually came up. now i use it more than facebook! I am scheduled for bypass on thursday 6/21. I have had so many questions about the diet and then after surgery but this website and also the many supportive ppl who have already gone thru the phases are very supportive!!! its like my online family~~~ i hope to hear from you and any of your supporting advice!

I felt the same way you did. Myhusband pretty much didnt say anything to me. I started my process in March and when I told him things at the seminar went good and that I wanted to proceed he said "your crazy, you dont need it" it did bother and hurt me a lot. I sat down with him and had a looooonnngggg talk with him. I todl him I was doing this for both of us. I wanted to be healthy for when we decided to conceive. Being overweight for many years was really hard on us when it came down to starting a family. I am the oldest of 5 and every one of my siblings has a famliy of their own. My grandma and other famil and friends would always ask us " so when are u having a baby" most didnt know that the reason I couldnt get pregnant was because I was obese and had endocrine issues. After explaing this to my husband he understood me better and was supportive the whole way.However now that my surgery is on Thurs 6/21 he is actaully been telling me he is not so sure i should have it. he mentioned he was afraid to lose me or to see me in pain. NO PAIN NO GAIN RIGHT?! after a while he will then say "well i guess your sticking with it, i cant force you to not do it" thankfully he is now coming to his senses and is more supportive especially now that i had been on the liquid diet ....he is sensible to the fact i cant eat as much and i am trying my best. he actually cooks for himself and eats when im not around or he will make chicken Soup and save me the broth:) he by the way is a very active hard working construction man. very fast metabolism~~~ Hope it all works out well for u and hopefully your husbands comes around. I have a feeling he will when he sees your putting in all your effort to stick to this~

i feel the same way! I told my husband I wanted to lift them if i felt they where going away... I would love to have them all nice and perky jajaja!!!

I really hope that your husband gets approved! Taking this journey together would be the best. Both you and him will be able to make healthier choices and support each other along the way!!! Crossing my fingers!!!!

How many days or weeks has it been since urs?

Lol:) i love reading ur posts! I told my man the same.... Do u think we will lose or boobs? I love mine but could use a lift! And i dont have children yet!
