  1. I am having trouble some days getting all of my protein. Can I make up for the missed protein by having more the next day?l I am trying hard not to do the shakes just because I would rather eat my calories than drink them, but I do drink three to four glasses of milk a day that gives me 36-48g of protein. Some days I miss a glass or two and am just wondering if I can drink extra the next day will it all average out? Thanks for any advice.......
  2. I too am seriously addicted to my coffee. I was going to give it up, but the headachs were just too bad, and I only drink one cup in the morning. I figured that if I could not tolerate it I would know it. It really saved me during the broth phase of post op. Also when I told my psychologist about giving it up she said she did not think that I need too. She was not my surgeons psychologist, but I believed her anyway. Good luck with what ever you decide.
  3. The band is just a tool. If you start now you can be prepared to use your tool to it's fullest, or not use it if you don't need it. If you eat the lapband way, one cup of food, small bites, and chew, chew, chew, and then chew some more. I personal don't count calories but do keep track of my protien. I lost 40lb about four months prior to my band. Right now I am four or weeks post op and have about 60 or so more to go. Use this time to practice and then use your tool if you need to. Good luck......
  4. I emailed this questions to my dietician, but apparently she did not give a good email address so I will ask it here. My milk says that it has 35% calcium per serving. If I drink three servings a day, how much more calcium do I need to consume to meet the 1200mg a day quota? I don't know how many mg of calcium are in 35%. Any info about this would be helpful. Thanks........

    Calcium......

I posted this under nutrition and got no answers so I thought I would try again....If my milk has 35% of my calcium in a serving and I am drinking 3 servings a day, how much more calcium do I need for supplement? I don't know what 35% translates in to mg's of calcium. Thanks for any info......

    Calcium......

I got the 105% part, but does that equal the 1200mg I need a day. I think, if my friend was correct I still need about an extra 300 -400 mg a day. I am still not 100% sure. I will keep researching it. It was not intended to be a trick question, but can see where it might look that way.

    Since Banding I noticed...

The weirdest and most bizarre dreams, kind of like the ones I use to have if I ate a big meal right before bed. I am only three weeks out and the most vivid one was feeding zoo animals. I was trying to feed them another person or something real big. I could actually see the hippo that I was trying to feed. It has got to do with the weight loss or something, because I had no comorbidities and I have been under anistisa before and never had this happen. I am glad to hear I am not the only one.......

    Gastric bypass?

Jackie, how much weight do you need to loose? Research both options and you be the one to make the choice. Do not let your surgeon pressure you one way or another. I agree that you should also get a second opinion and also talk to you PCP about your choices. Bypass is a huge undertaking, that is much harder to reverse in the long run. Please research both options, it is never to late to change your mind.

    Hello Everyone

I am only three weeks out so I have not even had a fill yet. However, I did read something about a five day pouch test or something that is suppose to jumpstart the metabolism. You might want to look into it. You could also try to change up your exercise routine. Good luck and let us know what works for you.

    Magic Bullet

I just bought one off of craigslist for $20 bucks last weekend. I love it. It has made the mushie stage soooooo easy for me. I put what ever I am cooking for my family in it mush it up and eat basicly the same thing everyone else is. I can make my lunch and just take it with me to work. It was a great investment.

    Joining the banded!!!!!!!

Everyone reacts differently to surgery. I went to work the day after I got out of the hospital. Not really to work, but to get up and do something. I'd go if for nothing else to get yourself out of the house. Will you have to drive yourself? If so make sure you are not groggy. I did not have to drive for several days after surgery, but getting up will make you feel better, help you get rid of the gas. Good luck.....:cool2:

    self-payer questions

They should cover the test, but check first if they don't cover them ask your PCP to order the same test. If you have comorbidities and a BMI between 35 - 40 your insurance may cover the surgery. Maybe even a little lower BMI. You should submit your paper work for insurance anyway. It can't hurt to try. Good luck.

Fill... why not all at once?

I was banded on Oct 13th and have been thinking the same thing lately. I actually was thinking why don't they fill the band up and then slowly remove it till I can pass a swallow test or something. It just seems that we might reach our "sweet spot" quicker that way. Oh well just a thought.
  14. My surgons nutritionist insisted that we need protien shakes and would for a while....well I was starving when she said this and did not have the mental abililty to question it. As I started drinking my protien and feeling human again I realized that if I eat three meals a day, even mushies and add a class of milk I get all of my 70gms of protien I need. If at the end of the day I have not had enough protien I can add a shake. This is a great topic.......

    3 day post op

If you are having diariah watch out for dehydration. It will sneak up on you and it could be why you feel bad. I was banded on 10/13 and one of my fellow bander ended up being dehydrated. Also if you are allowed to drink protien make sure you are geting enough. Good luck and I hope you feel better.
  16. Patti are you out there? And Beville( I don't remember your name) are you out there? How are ya'll doing? Good I hope. We will have to get together tomorrow evening and walk.....Lol

    Surgery Hopefully Oct 22

Hi...I did not get final approval for my surgery until one week before my pre op visit. I was stressed also. One thing that helped me was talking to the insurance company every day. I also was planning in my head for an appeal if I was denied. I don't know if the Drs will schedual or not unless they are fairly sure about the insurance approval. Good luck and don't give up.
  18. See if your PCP will write a Dr. note saying that you are unable to lift more than so much weight for what ever period of time due to abdominal surgery. You should not have to be any more specific than that. Good luck....
  19. Patti, I will probably be right there with you on the 9th at 730, but won't find out until Monday. I will let you know. And Restless Monkey thanks for the info on my colon. That will probably be the worse part of the whole processes.(lol) I hate doing those things.
  20. Hi, I am also going to be banded in San Antonio on Oct 13th. I am with Dr. Cavozos also. Let us know who you are going to be banded with.

    Acckk!! A week away!

I am also suppose to be banded on Oct 13th. I am excited, but won't believe that it is going to happen until I am in O.R. I have had a few delays in approval due to my insurance, but have known my date since July. My Dr. office said that insurance finally came through on Thurs., but like I said I won't believe it until I am in recovery. I had my last meal supper last Sunday. It was an egg roll party. I had a great time and have been trying to do low fat no carb diet all week. Good luck...lets keep in touch.
  22. Amy, I was in a simialr boat. I started the process in July with my first visit to my Surgen. I called my insurance constantly to find out exactly what they needed, what they would pay for and what I needed to pay for. I called at least a dozen times to check on the 6month diet guidline. (My insurance did not require one) It was about 3 months from the time that I first saw the surgen until I planned my surgery. I am schuedled to be banded Oct 13 and just got my final approval Thurs. My advice is to keep on top of the whole process. Don't assume that the Dr office has done what they are suppose to and/or the insurance. Get specific dates when things were sent and/or are going to be sent. When you have the routine test done check to make sure that your surgon has gotten a copy. Also to make things go faster I went to my PCP with the request for medical records myself. Also make sure you keep track of who you talk to. Good luck....

    t-minus 13 days.

I am out side of Austin, towards Bastrop. I should be banded Oct. 13th in San Antonio by Dr. Cavazos. Why did you decide to go to S.A.? I had to go that way because that is where my insurance will cover it. I will do my preop the day before your surgery. Good luck to you.....and keep in touch.

    No waiting required!

Dawn, what type of insurance do you have? My policy also requires no 6 month diet. It is exclusive to my policy not my insurance. I was declined because someone did not read the fine print of my policy that said that I did not need a six month diet. I have to wait a few more days to see how quickly it goes back through to see if I get to keep my Oct 13 appt. I am just curious what other insurances do not require a six month diet.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

Thought, I would chime in just because......I love to read and check my books out of the library. I will see an interesting book in a waiting room or grocery store and write the author down and check it out of the library. Shoes, I love them, all types: flip flops, sandals, tennis shoes, and yes even on special occasions heels. (not often) Due to heal spurs I can't wear flip flops as much any more:cry_smile: I miss having a reason for my monthly pedi. Oh well maybe they will get better in 100lbs or so.
