  1. Bansters:

I know most (if they struggle with this) will quickly realize that they can't eat fast at all do to the band in place. Furthermore' date=' I know many are forced to eat very slow because of the band iin them.

However, I'm wonder if many forget that they have the band ....and "woof down" food like they did before surgery. I'm sensing that some old mindsets and behaviors still do exist post surgery. I"m always on the "go" and this is one thing I'm wondering if I may have a problem with.

Any thoughts or opinions on this?

    Thanks Bansters ![/quote']

Only when I am really hungry....if I can avoid getting hungry then I can control how fast I eat. I really can't woof anything down because I am usually stuck by the second bite when I eat fast, then I have to stop eating till it passes....

  2. I too was getting stuck a lot and had lots of reflux at night suddenly I'm not stuck but still have restriction. He needs to invent some to prevent splash back those would sell like crazy. Haaa had a public bathroom splash that made me endup empting my stomach. Yuck!!!! Good luck with upper GI I plan on having one if reflux doesn't clear up soon sleeping with head of beds at 45 degrees is not very comfort but helps reduce reflux.

Get it checked out....I had the same problem and ended up having a slip...no fun.....I wish my dr. Had told me if you have reflux get it checked right away, I think I could have avoided a slip. Goodluck!

  3. Hello Bandsters' date='

I'm looking for some non-judgemental help here. I have, honestly, had my band for a year. I initially lost weight, mainly from the liquid diet, but since then I've been gaining it back. This is definitely my fault - not the band's. I've been eating poorly, as I've tried to find the 'sweet spot' with the band. I went through so much throwing up when i was too tight, and then total hunger when I've been too loose. Now my doctor feels that we are 'very close' to finding the right amount of restriction.

I asked my doctor what diet I should do (I really need to follow a strict regime -- I don't do well when I don't have something to follow). He said I SHOULD NOT do Weight Watchers -- 'it's not compatible with the band. He told me to "think Atkins", but hasn't been more specific. I'm meeting with him Monday and will try to get more.

In the meantime, I would be so appreciative to learn what your successful diet has been. What do you eat for Breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Snacks? I don't really cook, but I'm in New York City so I can pretty much get anything.

Thank you so much in advance for your advice. I'm desperate to start losing weight.[/quote']

I hope things ate going better for you now,.. I was also banded in 2008 and have also gained back what I lost after begging banded....I have gone back to eating slower, not drinking with meals, and watching carbs. I lost 40 lbs before being banded just by eating slower, I put my fork down between bites, and chew...I would get tired of eating before I finished my food. Good luck!

  4. Today I tried some black bean chips. They were awesome....10 chips had 10 carbs, 4 Protein, 140 cals, and 7 fat...a little high on fat for me, but beats corn chips( which I eat way to often)'by a mile....I love salsa and usually eat it with raw veggies, now I have another option.

  5. Sweet potatoes' date=' carrots, zucchini are good choices too. I just ordered one myself. My friend has one and it does pretty good. The veggie chips can't sit around too long or they loose their crispyness. But definately worth using when you are wanting a chip.[/quote']

I love y'all...I just made some queso...and was going to have it with celery....I am now going to try making some zucinni chips, in the oven because I don't have a microwave chip maker.....YET!

  6. Ok' date=' so i start puree foods in a couple of days. i wanted to see what any of yall out there did to help with this phase. what kind of creative foods did you eat? my dr said anything i put into a blender and get pureed would be ok, but i want some good ideas. thanks all.[/quote']

Try spaghetti sauce with meat...it is really good. Put it over cottage cheese and add parmasian cheese almost like lasagna...I don't like to cook twice so any time I have needed mushies I just figure out the best things to cook...good luck, AMD stay away from Pasta and bread....

  7. If you can get out and sight see every hour or so I would say go for it....I had to go out of town the day after my surgery for work...it was not so bad, it helped me from just lying in bed all week, I think it sped up my recovery...watching my friends eat out was the hardest part, but I just made it a challenge...many restraints have broth bases for Soup that a very tasty....I realize that I am the exception, most people would disagree....I know my Dr. Would not have been on board if he had known.....I also don't know if I would have called it relaxing.....

  8. Almost a year after my surgery' date=' I woke up with excruciating stomach pain. After trying to get thru it, I ended up at the Urgent Care center in town. The dr then handed me a note to the ER doc saying "possibel surgical patient". Scared the crap out of me. They gave me Dilaudid in an IV (then I was fine) and did a CT. They found nothing wrong with my band - I had diverticulitis. They gave me antibiotics and pain pills and sent me home. I felt better after a couple of days. I remember bargaining with God tho that if my band had slipped, I wasn't going to throw up anymore (thought I had caused a slip by vomiting almost everyday).

I know how it feels to not know if it's your band. It sucks and it's very scary. Good luck!

Diverticulitis can be worse than a band slipping...my brother had it and was very ill...he did have to have surgery. Scares me but I can't seem to give up nuts....I already had a slipped band and when I had it fixed I had forgotten about the gas pain till bout 3-4 hours after surgery....then I did not lay back down till I went home....good luck, this too shall pass...no pun intended!

  9. Someone replie here a while a back about spewing from the top of band and from the stomach....this is what I would like to say, mty banded slipped, I ate bread, got stuck brought ir up one too many times....ok so u spewed( threw up) don't know where it came from....thought it was above the band, the one thing I would share is..if you have not have reflux before band or since being banded and then it comes back or you develop it SEE YOUR DOCTOR....

  10. Funny that this conversation is going on now...my best friend has always supported me....she is considering doing it shelf now, not because she is obese but for health reasons......my sister in law the same....the only person that ever said any thing negative was a supper skinny co worker when I was first banded.....she thought I would change in some way....guess what three years later I am still the same me:). Lol

  11. I have had my band for 2 years and can not eat scrambled eggs' date=' they will not stay down. I can eat fried and poached carefully and have no trouble with hard boiled. One of my favourite things is hard boiled eggs smooshed (is that a word?) up with cottage cheese and finely diced spring onions. For you -without the onions at this stage i would think. Good luck and enjoy the results of not being able to eat those last few mouthfuls.[/quote']

Hmmm eggs and cottage cheese...intresting, I will have to try it. Love cottage cheese and eggs.

  12. Ok so I had heel spurs way.....before I was ever banded...actually they were the worst when I was t my lowest (adult) weight. I had surgery to fix both feet....I am glad to here that wls fixed others, beats the surgery. I would say if you have arch supports continue to wear them.....

  13. Hi everyone' date='

It's been two years since I had my surgery, and recently I've experienced some major changes. I started suffering from really bad night coughing a few months ago, and was vomiting a lot during the day as well. I opted to have a substantial defill, and that helped a lot.

The weird thing is, even though I'm at a much lower level of restriction than I have been for a couple of years, I still experience more unpleasant side effects and complications. For example, I have heartburn constantly--and I never did before, even when I was at a higher level of restriction!

I am not sure if I should get another defill, because I feel like if I had any less restriction I'd have no restriction at all. I can already eat a lot more than I could before, and can eat lots of foods like salads that I couldn't before. I'm worried that another defill will leave me with no restriction at all. But on the other hand, I have heartburn all day until after dinner, and then again a couple hours after eating dinner. I take Tums every single night when I go to bed. (Could that be making it worse???)

Any help or suggestions from those who've been banded for a few years now would be greatly appreciated!

    :)[/quote']

Did they check for a slip? If not you should have them look especially if you have vomited, that is what happen to me, I got unfilled but due to the position of the band I still had horrible reflux....good luck!

  14. Celery is my dipping friend. Need to try some othe things...those corn tortillas from trader jies sound good...we are getting one close by next year will have to try it.....tortilla chips are evil...way to easy to eat....

  15. The trick for me is to not let myself get too hungry. If I'm ravenous I tend to eat way too fast' date=' despite the dangers.[/quote']

The first two bites for me are fast when I am hungry...after that I am usually stuck and have to wait to eat till it passes...:(
