  1. Surgery date: April 23' date=' 2012

    Starting weight: 297

    Current weight: 194

I'm over a year out my lowest weight has been 192. I can't seem to lose anymore. My doctors goal for me is 180. I haven't given up. If I don't meet his goal I'm not disappointed. I feel and look great. I'm off of all medication for blood pressure, asthma and the c pap machine. I could've never did this on my own so I'm very happy. I went from wearing a size 26/28 top to a regular xl and from a size 24 pants to a regular size 14/16. I don't have to go to the plus size department anymore.

I am kind of in the same place. Started 5/29/12 at 253 now at 170, goal 150 but not losing much over the last 6 months. I do feel great but get a little frustrated at not making goal in a year. I am with you in that I am pleased at my results.

  2. Thank you....I went to a support group the other night but all we did was share our weight loss story and try samples...this group meets once a month. I am looking for help....do you feel like you have a good support team and the information you need for success?

Where did you have your surgery?

  3. Thank you....I went to a support group the other night but all we did was share our weight loss story and try samples...this group meets once a month. I am looking for help....do you feel like you have a good support team and the information you need for success?

I feel that my family has been supportive and the nutritionist. My schedule has made it difficult for me to attend a regular support group I have gone a few times. I have found Weight Watchers to be supportive n years past depending on the group. We just have to find the person or group that can answer our questions when necessary and give us encouragemnt when we start heading the wrong direction. This is a long-term life long struggle that we may never totally feel free from. I have come to realize over this year that most of my struggles are between my ears now that I cannot eat as much and I have had to really look for ways to ease boredom, express anger, sorrow or Celebrate outside of food. Exercise is very important to me and I get up early every morning and go to the gym. Actually I was doing this prior to surgery as a gift to myself and once I got into for awhile I miss it when I can't. When my children were small it was more difficult, but it is important to your overall healing and wellbeing to find ways to move more when you are experiencing eating desires. This is a way of support for yourself. We moms sometimes caretake everyone else but ourselves!

  4. I am in Bellingham...5 years post op and stuck...345 down to 250. I have a 16 month old who had nutritional problems due to my surgery. I am looking for a support partner because i was left in the dark after the surgery.

I live in Seattle but would love to help if I can. I am almost a year post-op and down 80 lbs still have 20 to go and often feel stuck. You are down nearly 100 lbs what a victory!!

  5. Yesssss. I watch my sister eat a half a cup of something and be extremely full. The crazy thing is (she has the sleeve)' date=' she can eat as much icecream and chips as she wants without getting full, but if she has two bites of a burger or a bite of pizza, she's ready to throw up. Do any of you experience dumping? I guess I'm worried about that too! I'm also concerned about the hair loss.

How is everyone's health now? Any Vitamin deficiencies? Any other health related issues?[/quote']

I experience the same thing. The density of the food is why meat makes you so full and yogurt just slips through. That's why we must eat Protein first and learn control over our liquids. I never experienced Hair loss, i took Biotin and used Nioxin products before surgery so I think not waiting until after to treat my hair well helped some also my hair is already very thin and I was freaked out about more hair loss. I really dont experience much dumping, i've eaten lots of different things with sugar and only get a very bad stomach ache and do not feel well except for one odd time when i ate something sweet ( I dont remember) and felt sick and faint for about an hour afterwards. It is obviously best to limit or eliminate these things from our diet anyway.

I take daily Vitamins and all tests have been normal as to my Vitamin levels. I've lost 70 lbs in 7 months and still want to lose 30 more. It is much slower now but I exercise 4-6 times each week for 1 hour and I walk and move much more than before so it is just a matter of time and vigilence to the diet guidelines. You will find your own way--just follow the guidelines and do not compare yourself to others this is a path you walk on your own as to how fast you lose that is up to your body. Exercise will help tremendously and we are all here to encourage and support you!

  6. I've tried it all from laxatives, prunes, prune juice, sliced apples, stool softener, enema, suppositories and Miralax. None of these consistently helps. I even drink some Chinese herbal tea concoction perscribed by a Chinese herbal doctor. I also eat somewhere around 30grams of Fiber daily but the best results have been with the tea every other day and miralax on the day between. I read someone took miralax twice daily--is that an ok thing??? I was taking it daily and it stopped working as well after a month. I've been a little concrned about dependency so started every other day alternating with the tea. What are your docs saying about miralax??

  7. I think that we get so focused on this because our culture values the perfect body way too much. We begin to buy into this as young girls and it carries into our adult life. We may be overweight and are teased or lack male attention and through that process we devalue ourselves as less than perfect somehow flawed. Now we begin the process of losing weight and our brains are still convinced we are flawed and we struggle with success because perfection is not the result. We have flabby arms and hanging bellys way short of the ideal and we cannot see the body change as success because it is not perfection. I think the key to some of this for me at least is to not focus on our flaws, hanging skin etc. but on the internal changes, the new self image we can construct and begin to affirm the positive changes we see. As overweight people we often become too self absorbed and perhaps need to look for ways to focus on others through activities, volunteer or social activities that will keep us other oriented and less worried about ourselves. Find our joy and the flaws will seem minor compared to our victories. At least ths has helped me deal with the thoughts I will never be skinny.

  8. So today 189! My goal for Christmas is 180 hopefully doable. Surgery date 5/29/12. 253 lbs total of 64 lbs. My progress is slow but steady but at my age,61 is an amazing miracle as losing weight these years requires huge efforts in exercise, 1hour 5 days a week, and careful control of every bite. I am so grateful for this tool gifted to me this Thanksgiving season. God bless all of you who are sharing this struggle to health and wellness with me.

  9. Again, everyone is different and my Constipation got so bad that I thought I could have an obstruction which is far more serious. I was bleeding and in horrible pain so taking a laxative was imperative for me. I tried every remedy, drank gallons of Water, cups of Fiber, exercise for an hour daily, suppositories, enemas, you name it!!! Getting something that worked at least most of the time(miralax) was a miracle for me. I began feeling so much better so take whatever you need to, ask your doctor's office for recommendations but do whatever you need to.

  10. I went through this for several months post-op. tried multiple laxatives, stool softners, teas etcall laxatives work as do enemas and suppositories but really you don't want to be totally dependent on them. Exercise helps and more Water but neither of them helped me except Miralax which I take daily. It is a different type of laxative which I drink in my evening tea. It may take several days to work and does not work everyday for me. But it is so much better than before.

  11. I think sometimes body type and where your fat is concentrated makes a huge difference. My weight has always been in my stomach and back so as I've lost my legs and arms are getting pretty skinny but my waist is still quite thick and I've only gone down a couple of pant sizes with 55 lbs lost but my shoes are loose and my bras are falling off. I fully expect the next 40-50 pounds to make more difference in the belly and waist.

  12. I have been taking Biotin since 3 months before surgery. I've always been able to get in enough Protein and for the last month silica for hair. I've been using Nioxin products for the last five years as I have very thin, fine hair. I am almost 5 months post op DOS 5/29 and have experienced no hairloss so far. I am prepared for the posibility but so far so good.

  13. I am four months post-op and 61. I have met lots of people even older so I think they consider weight and co existing conditions more than age. I've lost 50 lbs and still working on 50 more so I believe go for it!! I exercise 1 hour 6 days a week, work full time with no plans to retire and really am beginning to feel much younger!
