Considering Gastric Bypass Surgery
nish replied to InkedEmpress's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
All our insurance requirments are different I haven't had my surgery yet. I first went to the seminar at one hospital they said it was "normal" for insurances to require 6 months of consecuative pcp weigh in visits with the doctor then I called my insurance myself they said they would cover 100% with pre-authorizations after asking what the required pre-auth were they could not give me a for sure answer.?? Silly I then went and seen my pcp and she suggested a different surgeon at a bariatric center of excellence. I was able to attend their online seminar filled out 14 pages of paper work and got a call the next day. She said that I was required to have the 6 months of weigh-in visits, psych eval, dietician meeting. I have been seeing my dr for the last three month already but I don't know if she is going to fill out from three months ago or start from my visit last week. I have another visit on the 11th so I will find out more then. My thoughts are if she goes back I could have surgery middle or end of Aug, if not then I will wait till Dec. Good luck on your journey I'm right with ya! -
Mami, Good to see you back and that everything is going good with you!

I want to cross my legs like a lady. Hahahahahaha

I am in the same boat as you. My insurance says they want the six months also, which I just found out about today. So I am not sure if my doctor is going to count last weeks visit is number 1 or three since I have seen her every month, had my sleep test last month. The next one is the 11th of the month. So either it could be end of Aug or I may have to wait untill Dec. cause I will be starting Grad school in Sep. I am ready and don't want to put it off.

That is wonderful! How long ago did you start the process? -
I know everyones different, but I was wondering 1. How much time people have taken off of work? 2. When you really felt 100% Thanks all!

Other than trying to shrink the liver, is there another reason for the two-week pre-op diet? Also what is the average they are wanting people to lose
-
Another question..... I forgot to ask this at the seminar and with just starting the process I have not asked the surgeon this. As leaks as one of the complications is this something that you/me feel? How do they know you have a leak? Thanks!
-
Good luck I have also just started Nish

Did they want to see the ability to lose the weight or is it all about the liver?

Thanks everyone, this site is going to be my "lifeline"

Hello everyone! On Wednesday May 16, after attending a seminar on the three different surgeries, i have made my decision to go with the gastric bypass instead of the band. I am 36 years old - 5'3 - weight lately ranges from 244.6-251.2. I have tried it all cleanses, weight watchers, lean cuisine meals, even after I lost the initial weight (lowest 180) I could never take anymore off even with exercise. I would maintain but nothing else. I have struggled with my weight since I was 17 So 20 of feeling very uncomfortable with my body I am going to do it. From what I gather the criteria for my insurance is to: Start seeing physician once a month for the next 6 months which is Wednesday, then then surgeon approved dietician on July 3. If I have to do the 6 months of seeing the physician then I am projecting a surgery date approx around the middle of December. I have two daughters one 19 the other 5, full time job and starting Grad school in August. Yes it is like me to pile the plate so high I am pecking over the top. But I know that if I don't make this change I am going to just get bigger and Bigger and BIGGER! Looking for the support from this community to continue on! Would like to feel comfortable and beautiful! Nish
