Crying And Scared!
yes, it is very normal. Plus you will continue to experience these feelings after the surgery and that is normal too. Just find someone (or use us here) to express these feelings and get support as you go through this journey. Remember there is no reason to go through this journey alone. There will be joys, sadness, excitement, fear, laughter, success and small failures, but it will be worth it in the end when you become that healthier person you are striving so hard to become! Ellie

Complications
Yes and I was told it is just gas. It appears they were right but dang it still hurts when I get it, even now at 6 weeks post-op. I have had no complications. I had pain, but manageable by pain meds, and gas pain for over a week or so. Still experience constant gas and the pain that can come with that. I do have constipation on a regular basis, but some weeks its normal. I do not get in enough Protein, but my doctor does not even discuss protein at all. I did develop an aversion to cool or room temp Water and have to drink all my water as either ice or ice water, but thats an easy fix. In the winter that might stink but now during the summer its ok. I whine due to not losing as fast as I want to, but that's my stupidity. (10 pounds in the past 4 weeks is slow, seriously slow in my opinion Lol). Head hunger was an issue for me for a few weeks, but that has pretty much gone away, but I still fast forward through tv commercials. Going to the movies was tough the first time since I am used to popcorn or candy and had none of that, but I did bring a bag of a snack I could munch on (baby snacks). I now pretty much can eat anything nurtitious and have had no reactions to any kind of food at all except for too much sugar (but I'm careful to monitor sugar content) in the greek yogurt I had once. I know these are not the complications you meant, but for me the mental was much harder and I was less prepared for those then the physical complications. I did get one bite stuck and had diarheara from eating a greek yogurt once, but that is all. I know someone that developed a stricture and had problems eating and drinking and has to have an endoscopy to enlarge the espohogus (sp) and has to do that a few times before he can go back to any type of solid. I am not sure what else they will have to do to help him, but that is a common complication as far as I can tell, but certainly horrible to live through. Best of luck on your journey.

Sipping & Chewing!
I am almost 6 weeks pos-opI personally can now take normal size drinks of water and I do take smaller bites though. I do not know if it is ok to take bigger drinks now, when I could not before, but since I can I do since it helps greatly with getting in all the liquids I need to drink. I get so worried when I do not have all the issues everyone talks about. Maybe something is wrong and I've messed up something, maybe my pouch has stretched etc. When does this worrying about everything go away? Also with only losing 10 pounds in almost a month I get worried. BTW I eat correctly, exercise and chew chew chew LOL. Oh well, as they say in the beginning for sure you wont have a problem taking sips etc because you will be afraid not to as well as your body feeling weird when you forget. I never got the foamies from drinking but did get the feeling some thing was stuck in my throat for a few min if I gulped or took too big a drink.

Scared And Excited...
hospital stay was 2 days and out of work for 2 weeks, but would have been better at 3. I really did not start feeling normal until 3 to 4 weeks and was so exhausted at work I had to fight falling asleep at my computer. The length of time you stay out of work depends greatly on the work you do. I work in a psych hospital and mostly do sitting type work (with a fair amount of walking to and from places) so two weeks was allowed. I also work 10 hours 4 days a week with a commute of 1 hour each way, so that explains some of my exhaustion returning to work. Your doctor will advise you based on what kind of job you do. I was in no pain although finding food I could take to work was a bit challenging until I got on more normal food. My facility has many restrictions on containers etc allowed inside which made things harder. Good Luck!

100+ To Loose
So why do you have to stop exercising? I also have 100 pounds to lose. Surgery was June 7 and the weight is coming off really slowly now. I lost 11 pounds the week before surgery and then about 20 pounds the next two weeks and in the past 3 almost 4 weeks I have lost only 10 pounds. That seems so slow at this point after the surgery. I was led to believe that you lose the most the first two to three months and then it really slows down. So to say the least I am getting worried. If I have already slowed down so drastically how will I ever meet my goal of 145 to 150. I was 261 a week before surgery and 250 on the day of surgery. Today I weigh 221. I keep gaining and a pound or two then stalling for a week and then losing 3 to 4 then gaining and the cycle keeps going. I exercise daily (30 min) and am working on eating 600 calories with the goal of 800. But it is almost impossible to get in the 600 as impossible for the 800. I know other people eat way less and exercise the same yet the pounds fall off, why is my body so stinking screwy? I know slow is better in some ways but mentally it is the hardest. Oh well thanks for letting me vent.

Todays The Day!
Lift your left arm over your head. That's what worked for me - guess it stretched my insides or something. But I sure looked silly on my walks with my arm over my head- but it worked! Lol

Pre op weight 261 Surgery (6/7/12) weight 250 Last week 226.2 Today's weight 222.8 Out of 5 weeks I have not lost or I've gained 2 of the 5 weeks. It's so frustrating - but at least I lost over 3 pounds this week, but that seems so little again!! But I'll take any loss over a gain or no loss.- Help!
Surgery was June 7. I got my degree from Fresno State. Been working at the state hospital in coalinga for the past 2 1/2 years. Work with violent sexual predators who have been civilally committed after serving their prison terms. Interesting work - Friday Weigh-In!
