Awww What Can I Say?
People have asked why I'm doing the surgery. Tonight I got proof that I'm making the right choice- my 10 yr old son (11 on Saturday) just ran inside and announced to me "mom I can't wait until you do all the fun things with me" I was distracted and asked what he meant and he told me that "so you can do anything with me that fun but without hurting!" what can I say it made me happy that he is looking forward to being with me but breaks my heart over all I have already missed- and that he knows it!! One more real motivation to keep me moving forward!! Tomorrow at 730 is surgery - making my and my families dreams come true

So is it normal to put on a lot of weight at the hospital? How much is normal and how soon does it go away? What causes that?

Got My Date
I am glad to hear you are doing fine. Let me know how that post-op appt goes. I am surprisingly not too anxious, but I notice that the closer it gets to bedtime the more nervous I am getting. But I am not scared, just want this part over so I can move forward. I am being positive that it will all work out well with no complications. I am going to Fresno Heart and Surgical at 530 am and the surgery will be at 730 am. I would be more than happy to see you before the surgery, but that might be too early. No one in their right mind wants to get up that early unless they have to. I am sure Nick would love to see you guys to, so if you want to brave the early dawn hours that would be great. I have a lot to do before I go to bed, not that I will sleep. I never sleep the night before an event, whether good or bad, so I am sure I will not sleep tonight. So far the liquid diet has not bothered me at all, but I can see if I had to do this pre-op longer than a day or so I would be miserable. LOL

24 Hours And Counting
Well this time tomorrow I will be leaving for the hospital! It's crazy that the day is finally here. Im Excited. I am still paranoid that something will happen to stop it but otherwise at this point I'm not super nervous or scared. I have my moments but I'm trying to keep myself so busy I don't have time to think. I've been reading on here and that has helped a lot. I know the next bit of my life won't be easy but I think I can handle it. I wasn't required to do a preop diet except for being on a full liquid type diet today (at least it's not clear liquids). But I wanted to jumpstarty journey and already been working out and eating carefully. So I've lost 15 pounds and ready to get moving. I actually already met my first goal which was to get below 250- and that was amazing. I never had a need to go cram in all those foods I won't be able to have for awhile- which shocked me.i am so focused on my future that the desire is just not there. I find myself looking at all I can eat instead of what u can't eat - so unlike me I can't explain it. This is just been an awesome experience sp far. BUT I'm not looking forward to today and a liquid diet (but only one day) or the gas pains or all the other trials associated with the surgery but I'm up to the challenge and I can say that with complete honesty! Bring it on!! (hope I don't regret saying that ROFL)

Here Goes...
Speaking of liquids- do you know what liquids are allowed for the liquid diet the day prior to surgery? Is is clear only or full liquids? What did you eat? Protein shakes? Cream soup? Broth? Jello? What?? BTW I have always read that sugar free jello is part of the clear liquid stage, just as long as it is sugar free you should be ok.

Wow that stinks! Hope you're feeling better now

Pre-Op Testing ?
Excited and scared a bit- trying not to focus on it though. My preop was 3 vials of blood and an EKG- guess tomorrow the results come back and I get cleared or not. Can't wait until all the hoops are over

Pre-Op Testing ?
My surgery is June 7. Just a couple days away- yet feels like forever. Lol. Just got to do this final hoop and I'm ready to rock and roll!! 3 weeks for you- are you excited?

Pre-Op Testing ?
Thanks! I know mine is fast since they close at 6pm and I get there at 530. Joanna this is not the same as your post-op appointment with the doctor. This is just the bloodwork part. I am just being silly and worrying in case something negative comes back that will interfere with the surgery. I already did the doctor pre-op appt a couple weeks ago. That was painless for me anyway. They did weight, blood pressure etc. Doctor then sat and answered any and all questions I could remember to ask at the time. He was awesome, he kept telling me to ask more questions, but I have done so much research I did not feel the need to ask too many. Besides I forgot to write them down, so you might want to do that so you do get yours answered. I was told the office was available for any questions and just call if I had any. At the pre-op appointment I also had the nurse sit and explain all the complications and I had to sign my life away at that point. But it was a pretty basic appointment. Good luck at your appointment, I am sure it will be fine.

Got My Date
I totally understand about Kelly. She needs to focus on her health and protect herself as she goes through that process. I just hope and pray it all works and she regains her health at the end of that process. Cancer is a scary thing. I wish my sister could have chemo so she could get better and not be looking at dying in the near future, but if she could and got it I would protect her from everything the same way you are doing for Kelly, no need to apologize. I feel the same way about the surgery, it is my last chance to fight and get healthy. I know I can do the right things for a few months on my own but it never lasts. With this tool I hope it helps me to maintain my goals to eat healthy and be active. I am just tired of being tired and so desperately afraid of getting cancer like my sister, which is one reason I am having this surgery. Doctor told me that this will help lower my risk for the cancer: with this sister that's dying, another sister, aunt and a grandmother all having one form of cancer or the other I am seriously concerned. I want to live to see my family grow and be there with Nick for as long as possible. I want a life worth living! How is it going for you?

Got My Date
Ray, Erin had the stomach flu but I made her stay away from the house until she was better. I know that makes me a horrible mom, but when she posted she was sick I asked her to stay at her future apt until she was no longer sick. I could not afford to get sick the week of surgery either. (we did bring her stomach flu type meds and food, but Nick took them up and left them outside her door) Maybe we could plan on meeting somewhere other than the house, if you are concerned still. Erin is rarely home, what with her doing all that pre-wedding stuff. But she is all better. I am starting to get nervous, more that something will stop it, rather then the for the actual surgery, but there is a bit of that starting as well.
