I am 6 days post op. I have been drinking the strawberry Protein Shakes they were the only ones I could find I liked. I was wondering if I could add anything for a different taste. I can barely get it down. I an getting so' date='tired of the taste.[/quote']If you like chicken Soup there is a great powder you can buy online called "unjury". You mix 8 ounces of Water with a scoop of powder and it's equal to 20 grams of Protein. My nurse practitioner recommended it as l struggled to get in all my Protein right after surgery. They also sell a flavorless powder you can add to any liquid to add protein. Be careful of those small protein tubes as my nutritionist said they are not good for you. Good luck!

I have had the same problem. I spoke with my nutritonist and she suggested miralax, but also said your body should begin to get accustom to your "new" diet and the Constipation should subside. One thing that has really helped me is getting in my daily fruit. It seems to get the system flowing...lol. l found that when l had two Protein Shakes a day l was more apt to become constipated so i cut down to one a day.

Good luck to all of you having surgery this week!

The doctors said the first year the weight loss is generally the result of the surgery. Year 2 the weight loss is all you. Therefore it's imperative that you learn how to eat healthy during that first year. It is very easy to start putting the weight back after the first year.

I think the hardest thing for me was sleeping at night. I sleep on my stomach and for the first week could not do that due to the discomfort. I actually slept in my recliner. As far as walking, my doctor had me up walking 6 hours after surgery and then every two jours after that to prevent blood clots. Everyone heals at different rates. Don't get discouraged...every day will get easier!

You're right...stay focused on the goal which is losing weight and living a healthier life. You'll do fine!

I'm finishing up my psych evals and the work shops... I start them in June.. How was the surgery?? And the recovery??
The surgery went great! Surgery on a Thursday & I felt 100% by Monday. The nurse told me I'm not the norm. I can honestly say l have had no problems except the occasional Constipation which is never fun.

I'm from Westport I'm having it done by dr colacchio at tobey in wareham' date=' I got the medical clearance I just need to finish my psych/nutri evals and the workshops.. How long do the work shops usually take?[/quote']
I went through Tobey too. Had surgery on 4/12. Workshops took three consecutive weeks.

Hang in there...l am experiencing similar things. I had surgery on april 12. I have no problem eating. The fullness l thought l would feel l dont always feel. I make a conscious decision to stop eating. Some foods have made me sick like Peanut Butter. Sometimes l think may eat too fast and dont give myself a chance to feel full. Beside the weight loss sometimes l dont feel like l had the surgery. I have a difficult time getting all my fluids in. I have to get into a better routine. You mentioned headaches...that could be a side effect of not drinking enough. Good luck!

Dont eat Peanut Butter this early! It doesnt digest well at all. Im 5 weeks out and i tried it and threw it up. Not worth it.Same here...had my surgery on april 12 and Peanut Butter has not sat well with me...tried it 3 times and each time madee sick.

Bernie....Happy to hear you're doing well! That's great...l noticed you said you had diet.snapple ice tea...that is one of my favorite drinks, but my nutritionist said l couldn't drink it for several weeks following my surgery because of the caffeine? But if the hospital gave it to you I'm going to ask her again.

If you like chicken Soup there is a great chix soup Protein Powder you can buy online called Unjury. I love it. You mix it with 8 ounces of Water and it's 20 grams of Protein. Quick & easy & very tasty! They also sell a powder with no flavor that you can mix with anything that is 20 grams too. My doctor suggested it because l was having trouble getting in all my protein.

Hi Erin & Christine...My name is Tammy and l had my surgery on April 12, so I'm around the same time as both of you. One more week of liquids...can't wait to move on to the next stage...growing really tired of broth, Protein Shakes, Jello, etc. I need to chew..lol. good luck on your journeys!

Don't get discouraged. Think positive. You'll make it through this bump in the road.

Congratulations! I had my surgery on April 12 and l feel like it's my new lease on life.

I know two people who have had the sleeve and their recovery time was longer than the r-n-y. Both needed 4 weeks. Not sure how age affects the recovery time, both were over 55. I'm sure everyone is different. Good luck.
-
I only needed them for 3 days once I got home. It was mostly to help me sleep since I could not fall asleep on my back and wanted to sleep on my side. I think everyone is different.

Not sure which part of MA you're from, but we have support groups that are scheduled by Tobey hospital (Wareham). They take place in several surrounding communities.

I had my surgery April 12 & I'm going back to work this Monday (23rd). I feel really good. According to my doctor, I am not the norm. Most people need longer to recoup...a month or so. It also depends on the demands of your job. You will not be able to lift anything over 10 pounds for several weeks.

Good luck...the process is long but well worth it!

I started the process in November and had my surgery April 12. It was a very thorough process...meeting wirh a psychologist, nutritionist, gastric bypass classes, etc. Good luck.
-
The whole process took about 4 months starting with the referral by my pcp to the bariatric doctor. I actually started the process with the psychologist, nutritonist, etc appointments right away. I recieved the insurance approval mid way.

I basically have muscle milk to get the Protein, Soup (broth only), sugar free Jello & popsicles, Vitamin Water zero, and sugar free pudding. I havent tried the plain low fat yogurt yet as it's not my favorite. I even tried mixing it with Sugar Free Chocolate pudding mix but it just didn't cut it.

The Unjury chix soup powder is suppose to be mixed with Water only (luke warm water...can't be boiling water). They do sell a flavorless Protein Powder that you can add to any liquid...no taste. Neither powders make anything thick. If you mixed the chix soup powder with soup...you're probably right...that's why it was gross...lol
