2 Week Liquid Diet Pre Op

Not funny if it happens to you :-( However since the op my memory has been fine. On the liquid diet, towards the end, I was not functioning properly.
  2. If you put cooked meat in a blender I suggest using gravy with it to help make it right for eating in the early weeks after your op, avoid chicken skin which is high fat. Remember its not so bad as it sounds, before cooking sausages and burgers are made in a blender but of course you shouldn't eat sausages as they have skin and are very high in fat (that's what gives them the good taste). Enjoy.
  3. Good luck berniec on your op, sure you are going in soon. Not fun couple of days but all worth it :-)
  4. Pureed isn't as bad as it sounds. So cottage cheese put through a blender breaks up the lumps but essentially tastes the same. A little skimmed milk can help it along. Don't over-blend i.e. add air otherwise it won't be so good. Quite high protein and a perfectly healthy meal + its not sweet like the protein drinks.

    Walk, walk, walk...

Help, am I overdoing it. 10 days post op. Have comfortably reached 10,000+ steps and today went to 14,000 steps, must be about 5 or 6 miles. Am I going to hurt myself, I feel fine? Too much time to waste as not working till next week.
  6. Just a thought, 1 cup of milk has 8 grams of protein, 1 yoghurt 8-12 grams, cottage cheese is also good. I do not plan to have the pureed pork, chicken etc very often, but prefer to stick to the yoghurt, cottage cheese path, since I am not hungry but like the odd change. I mix some milk with the cottage cheese to help the puree process and its fine for me. Good luck.
  7. Hi Sweet and Anjela, its your bodies, but you can always ask your surgeons. I drink 1 pint of skimmed milk a day. Check out http://www.bospa.org/Information.aspx?Page=21 BOSPA is like the main U.K. organisation for Bariatric surgeons. I feel great, In fact I am walking 10,000+ steps a day (4-5 miles) which I struggled to do before the op, and as I said I had pureed pork yesterday. I can't say this is for everyone, bodies are different, but I was recommended to do 2 weeks of Protein drinks before the op, but told not to take them afterwards....food for thought :-)

    Walk, walk, walk...

Glad to help, couple of tips. If you enter incorrectly you can delete in history and if I missed an entry I adjusted the Ipad clock, added it and then when back to current date. Maybe other ways but they work for me. My fav App.

    Made It!

Hi, I have the same problem. I am day 8 and had my first serious pureed meal, pork, mashed potato and cauliflower (I own a Nursing Home so I just tried part of a frozen pureed meal). Very nice, first proper meal in 1 month. I pushed it slightly over the 20 minutes I took to eat it, to see what it felt like to be full, but eventually stopped when I got no feeling at all. Hmmm back to the drawing board.
  11. Hi Sweet, as I have put on one of my posts, U.K. surgeons don't follow the same pattern as US surgeons, who go for protein shakes. I am on my 8th day, have lost 18Ibs in the last 7 days and started today my pureed 2 weeks with yoghurt for breakfast and pureed cottage cheese for lunch. No problem. Hope you do well :-)
  12. Wishing you all the best and get well soon :-)
  13. Good luck on the results. Blood clots do occur after an op like this and are nasty depending on where it is. After my op I was given 7 days of Clexane (Heparin anti-coagulent) injections to take home. They are not fun but prevent blood clots. Anybody out there, ask your surgeon if you can get them as they do work.
  14. I know where you are coming from, 2 out of 3 in my immediate family didn't approve plus many non-family didn't but I go by the saying...."what other people think of me is none of my business". So I wanted to do it and have never regretted it for one moment, now post-op 7 days. Good luck.
  15. Anjela, I know we are all different but by now you should be off broths and well into going towards soft. How about having a long chat with your dietitian, you must progress to be healthy. Weight loss may slow or worse your health be hurt. We all support each other in this forum and I hope you get things on track :-)
  16. So 3 days from op day and back at home. Nights have been difficult but each day has got easier. I have had to sleep upright in bed as lying down is uncomfortable. Gas was the most difficult post op aspect, it just wouldn't let up, bad ache of the back and neck, today its mercifully gone. Feel like I can walk into town etc but told to take it easy because one can set everything back by overdoing things. Clexane injection has been difficult, I found I just couln't give it to myself and the wife was less than keen, 6 more days of those...oh what fun. On the positive side, this seems like the first time in my life I have not been hungry...i.e. thinking its lunchtime etc, I just don't feel hungry and I am quite happy with the small quantity of clear soup I have. I am thrilled with that and know I am on the path to a new me :-)
  17. Hi Anjela as an alternative In the U.K. the Surgeons/dietians aren't so keen on protein drinks, here for weeks 2-4 post-op they suggest to start with 4-5 small meals per day of pureed (very runny) food such as low fat yoghurt, soup, mashed potato with gravy, cheese grated and melted on the mashed potato, parsley or other sauce for flavour, stewed apple, tinned fruit e.g. peaches. All this really pureed, so that it flows off the back of a spoon. If this is tolerated then move on to pureed meats, fish, chicken, beans, eggs, but again foods should be pureed and low in fat or sugars. Good luck all.
  18. Never tried Truvia but sure its much like all sugar substitutes, its ok if used in small quantities within something but doesn't work well for use directly e.g. on strawberries like the adverts. Actually I quite like Peppermint Tea, the nurses at the hospital were sure it helps to get rid of gas post-op, maybe it does but I still had it, but it was very refreshing, and helps with dry mouth and sore throats after the op. I like Twinnings Peppermint and Nettle but I am sure its not for everyone and I am not sure I would adopt it if it wasn't for the diet or the op. Advantage is it does not require sugar or sugar substitute.
  19. Thanks Anjela, you are right mine hasnt gone away fully and I am walking all over the place and have since the op. Masses of peppermint tea too and that also didnt seem to help.
  20. Its certainly weird but logical I suppose. On my liquid diet stage now, found my best lunch is heating a couple of tablespoons of white wine (drives off the alcohol) adding a dash of worcestershire sauce and a cup or so of simple chicken stock, heat and serve. It can be fortified by adding a tablespoon or 2 of clear beef soup. Yummy, keeps me going fine :-)
  21. One weird outcome has been that over the 3 days of post op I actually gained 2 Ibs, probably due to the glucose drip and other liquids one takes on board post op. But this morning (day 4) I lost 2 Ibs, so the ball is rolling
  22. I think they will give painkillers if you want otherwise Paracetamol is fine and I took it only once because of air build up causing neck and backache. They offer co-codamol but I refused because that is codein based and causes constipation and after the 1st 24-hours I didn't need heavy painkillers. It seems they vary on what they give you. I appreciate your excitement, its all about getting it over and looking forward to the new you, thats a universal theme on this forum :-)
  23. Thanks Berniec, yes I have been helped so I am happy to pass on my own experiences. Got fed up with sleeping upright last night and lay on my side, bit uncomfortable but it was a pleasure, feels like life is getting back to normal 4 days after the op. I can assure you that if the surgeons have agreed to operate then there isn't anything to worry about for your op, its production line surgery, but the 24-hours after the op are not very pleasant. Good luck and I am sure you can't wait to get it over.
  24. Thanks jemjem. Yes worse luck I got given these injections to take for a whole week and I hate them. Anybody approaching my exposed belly with a syringe isn't very welcome....and then to try to inject oneself :-( You were seriously lucky. However interesting to hear our stories are so similar, I hope this will help others reading this to worry less or be prepared better. Thanks.
