  1. So we all know by now how popular the Premier Protein is, but Im curious what other kinds of protein people are liking out there. I've heard a lot of suggestions for nectar and Isopure, but what are your favorite flavors??

    August 2014 sleevers!

So I have my date (Aug 5th) but I called today to find out if they had assigned a time yet and they told me that they wont confirm a time until after my appt on the 23rd....I can't wait!!! Does anyone have to do a crazy preop diet? Luckily, I only have to do Clear Liquids one day before surgery and then nothing the day of. I think that's a piece of cake when compared to what I've seen other people have to do.
  3. Hi there, so I'm so excited to finally have my date scheduled and I'm looking for any buddies on that date or around that date. I have a great group of people that I took my insurance required classes with, but many of the people opted for RuNY as opposed to sleeve and I want to make contact with some people who will be going through something similar to me
  4. I know that we need to be taking in a certain about of fluids in certain time intervals after surgery. I've heard mention of some apps that people use to remind them to drink or to help track this, but I can't remember the names of them. So my question is, how did you time yourself to remember to keep drinking Water?? Did you set a timer in your phone, use the clock for reference, or is there an app that someone has found helpful for this? TIA
  5. A lot concerning loose skin has to do with age and genetics. My sister had surgery and actually had a tummy tuck and her arms done for the loose skin, but her legs actually tightened up quite nicely. It's a lot of money for surgery and I don't know that I would ever do my arms because its a toss up on whether that scar is any better than the loose hanging from the arms.

    What are slider foods?

I'm not positive, but I've heard that term used in two different ways, so I'm curious what others will say also. I've heard people say it as a food that is liquid or semi liquid that "slides" through the sleeve easily. But I've also heard it used as a negative term, where there are foods that we shouldn't eat after surgery (like ice cream) that are excessive calories, but because of their consistency, you can tolerate them (although most seem like the sugar would cause an adverse reaction)
  7. My sister also had the sleeve done, but a few years ago. She lost well over 100 lbs and I hope that I can do as well as she did also!! I'm just so happy to finally be getting going with this. I had a pulmonary embolism earlier this year, so my wait has been longer than it should have been, but the doctor is all ready to let me go forward now!! What was hard was that my insurance required a 6 month class and all the people in the class became really close and we text everyday. I had to just sit and wait while they all got surgery done, but i know it was for a good reason...just soooo ready!!!!

    Date set!

Thats great!!! Congrats!! I got my date today too!! August 5th!! Very excited
  11. We only have to do clear liquids the day before the surgery, but thats pretty easy compared to what I've seen some people have to do!!
  12. I got a surgery date!!! So excited!! I go in on August 5th!! How was your first class??
  13. I called yesterday and apparently the surgeon was pulled into emergency surgery, so I'm still waiting to hear back.
  14. I don't know what to think.....i feel like they are just dangling the carrot a little more!!! If they made a mistake and he signed off on it then it kinda makes me wonder about him?? Does he not pay attention to details, if he is signing off when he shouldn't have?? Its frustrating because I feel they should just let me through because all of my labs are perfect....grrr...so annoying!!
  15. I scheduled to see him again on the 2nd. Oddly yesterday, I got a call from scheduling because they were trying to schedule my surgery. Apparently they had a signed form from the doctor to move me forward, but it doesn't make sense with what he had told me. So they were going to look into it today and call me back. It would be great if he just moved me forward, but Im not going to get my hopes up!!
  16. Are you sooooo excited to start classes tomorrow!!!?!?!?! They go by quicker than you think!! I just noticed your last post, I was actually worried about dropping below the 40 BMI also and I asked about it before I even applied. It isn't an issue at all. They seem to really like the effort when people lose weight, so you can't be disqualified or anything if you BMI drops below 40. I think (im not positive) that once you get into the program, you are basically approved...Im sure there are reasons that they would deny you going forward, but only in situations like problems with your labs or something like that.
  17. I lost a little, but not the 10% that they want you to lose. In the beginning of the class, they talk to you as though the 10% is a requirement, but it really isn't. The only thing that happens different...if you lose the 10%, then after classes are done, you move right through to the fit test and labs....if you don't lose the 10%, then you have to wait for another appt to see Dr Ray, where he basically tells you to make sure not to gain any more weight going forward and then you move on to the fit test and labs. It wasn't something I stressed about too much (because I knew I might be waiting because of my blood clots anyway) but for some of the people in my group, it would have moved up their scheduling a good month had they lost the 10%. Now, once you see the surgeon and they weigh you in, they may ask you to lose a few lbs before surgery and I have heard of them turning people away on their surgery date if they didn't lose that amount...but that is usually just 4-6 lbs that you need to lose before surgery, so you have like 2 weeks to do it
  18. Yes, Lee is male and I asked around in my group of the people who did a makeup class with him. They all said he is pretty cool but doesn't do any exercising in class (which could be a good thing, but the exercising does make the class fly by!!). They said he has a super dry personality, but you'll learn a ton from him!! My teacher was nutty....she was all over the place an as a result, the learning was limited at times. Let me know how the first class goes when you start!
  19. Thats Great!!! Do you know who your teacher is? Im doing good...just still waiting. My dog is having surgery today so Im more worried about him than myself right now!!
  20. Yea!!! congrats!! I should be scheduled around the same time as you
  21. I guess standard protocol is to be on blood thinner s for six months, so they want me to complete the six months first - but they aren't even looking for anything to happen in that six months!! I would understand so much more if there was something they were waiting for besides just "time to pass" There isn't a test of any kind im going to be taking, just let the time pass, then proceed. I have Dr Tanaka....he is amazing despite making me wait. I understand his position, I'm just frustrated!!!
  22. I think it was just over two weeks before I got called to be put into class, so I'm sure they will call you soon!!! I have to see the surgeon every month for two months and then hopefully he will schedule me. So I go back on July 2nd and then hopefully by the beginning of August I can get scheduled. Whats funny is that I go in on July 2nd and I have no clue what that's for!! He is basically just checking up on me and is just going to make me wait another month...so lame...I understand why, but still lame!!
  23. Did you get called to be put into a class yet?? I'm still waiting to see the surgeon again. The other people in my class started getting surgery already...one yesterday and one today. I'm happy for them, but it sucks to have the be the person stuck waiting while everyone else moves forward!!
  24. Thats great!!! So now you are just waiting to be put into a class?? or the labs?? I can't remember which was first!! My surgeon visit had it's good and bad news. The bad news is that I have to wait two more months to move forward and have surgery. The good news it that my surgeon is awesome!!! I had a pulmonary embolism about four months ago and the surgeon wants to wait until my cumadin course is complete before he cuts me open. I was upset, because everything I had been told was that I could move forward, but basically every other doctor was just passing the buck and the surgeon recognized that, so he is taking over all of my care before and after surgery free of charge because he feels like no one is taking responsibility for my care. It made me feel really good about him!! The other visits were easy too, both the shrink and internist passed me through and said Im a great candidate to be very successful, so I just have to wait a little bit more...it suck, but it's just a little bump in the journey!!!
  25. Hello, So like many, I have been jumping through the insurance hoops since September, including weekly classes with Kaiser that will finally be completed on May 1st. So a few weeks ago, I had a blood clot that traveled to my lungs causing a pulmonary embolism. I was admitted tot he hospital where Ive been put on blood thinners for three to six months to prevent future clots. Initially the ER doctors told me that my surgery would have to be postponed while I'm on cumadin. The cumadin is monitored very carefully and I spoke with the cumadin clinic and they mentioned that there is no reason to hold off on the surgery as there are people that are on cumadin for the rest of their lives that have to have surgeries and they simply stop their cumadin a week before surgery and put you on Lovenox (a different form of blood thinner, the same you would use if pregnant) and then a week or so after surgery, I'd be put back on cumadin. Has anyone had experience with this? Although I hate the idea of having to wait even longer for my surgery, I will always do what the doctors tell me is safer. I just find it frustrating that they put you on cumadin for a certain period of time, but there is no test or scan that you can have to determine if your doing better. My blood clot was most definitely caused by birth control pills and now that I'm off of them, I know I need to watch out for it, but I've recovered amazingly well and I would just hate to have to postpone what I've had my heart set on for a year now!! If anyone has had any experience with this, please let me know
