    OCTOBER bariatric beauties

You are not alone! I had my surgery 10/15 too- have a little more energy the past few days' date=' but overall still very fatigued! My idea of a field trip is to go to CVS to pick up a prescription... After that I need a nap! I'm only 27years old too, so I was hoping I would heal faster than if I were older, however no luck there. I understand that it can be frustrating reading about other people Who are 2 or 3 days out from surgery and feeling great, getting out of the house, walking, etc., I feel the same way. While I'm so happy for them, I just keep reminding myself that I just had major abdominal surgery, and that everyone is different, so I just need to push through this sucky stage, and eventually my whole life is going to be better. It's hard to believe it's nearly been 2 weeks already! We are doing so good, just have to keep it up and try to stay positive!

    safe to swallow pill capsules?

I was told I would have to have all my pills either liquid or crushed for the rest of my life (because the absorption will be wrong now with my tiny stomach)... Would looooooove to swallow pills, liquid and crushed are gross!!!

HELP! Denied by BCBS IL Boeing ins.

That's really rough, sorry :-( my BMI was only a little over 40 (with no comorbidities), so the nurse at my bariatric office told me to be careful not to loose too too much weight before surgery to be sure I would be approved... Kinda a bizarre thought... I think my surgeon also told the insurance company that I have back pain from my weight (which I do, but it's a combination of weight and occupation), and fatty liver (from my abdominal US)... Not sure if that made a difference but I was approved no issue!
  5. I was readmitted to hospital 2 days after my initial discharge... Hadn't been able to tolerate liquid meds- caused nausea, vomiting and dry-heaving. On top of all this, I had the worst diarrhea 5 days post-op through day 8... My surgeon thinks it might be a new lactose allergy, so when I'm feeling better i'll test milk out again and see how well I tolerate it. With the meds (Zantac, roxicet), I found that each time after I took them, I would instantly start to dry heave (surprisingly the med actually stayed down each time... Don't know how!), I think it had something to do with the smell/taste... I've always been a gaggy person if I smell or taste something gross, but in this situation I stayed nauseous all day long, unable to get in my liquids so ended up readmitted for dehydration and to sort-out my meds plan. Haven't been able to take anything for pain now except childrens tylenol, and I'm on Prevacid solutab now instead of Zantac- something about chewables go down fine. I also have a PRN order for compazine (anti-nausea med) that is a suppository... A little gross but when you feel like crap and cannot keep anything down it definitely works fast and does the trick (plus I'm a nurse, so it doesn't gross me out too bad). I'm home now, and feeling MUCH better-- able to meet fluids and Protein goals each day, but still cannot do liquid meds (I tried again, and failed again). That being said, I still have some occasional pain but I'm just grinning and bearing it... Another complication, though I bet it's fairly common, is that I became really itchy around my incisions which were all covered with steri-strips. I also developed a warm red rash around them too- kinda bumpy, almost looks like poison ivy. It had been 9 days since surgery, so the clinic nurse had me remove the steri-strips (in case they were causing skin irritation), and apply hydrocortisone cream... While I'm really happy that all the incisions are healing nicely (doesn't look infected, it's definitely an irritation due to the adhesive) nothing has changed so far, so I'm going to call my doctor's office in the morning if it's still not better when I wake up. With all these issues it's been a rough 10 days, but I have yet to regret a thing! I know this was the right decision for me and for my future, and I am so incredibly grateful for all of the support I've received from the message boards-- you all have been so great!

    One week post op

I was sleeved 10/15' date=' am down 14lbs since surgery so far... Seems like an awful lot in just 9 days, almost too good to be true!!!
  7. Pre-op wasn't too bad for me... 3 Meal Replacements (at least 20g Protein each) and 1 healthy meal per day. Also got to eat unlimited non-starchy vegetables... Was definitely hungry but it was only 2 weeks. Post-op has been really rough... Liquids only for 4weeks, and I'm not hungry at all... Meeting my Fluid goal of 2-3L per day and protein goal of 60-90g/day is so difficult when the thought of eating (drinking) makes me gag... If I could do the pre-op diet forever and lose weight, it would have been great, but I know my hunger would have eventually caved me in and I would start eating too much/ not approved foods, so I'm so happy I have my sleeve now-- every day is getting a little easier

    October Sleevers - Who else

Great job- I'm doing the same thing... Not sure how' date=' but I'm losing ~2lbs every 12hours... I'm at a 30lb weight loss as well now (since July)! Funny thing is I don't really see or know where it's coming from... Maybe my belly and legs look a little thinner? I'm still wearing sweats around the house (haven't graduated to jeans yet as I've been feeling lousy), so I can't really tell the difference in the mirror... But I suppose the scale doesn't lie! Way to go!

    Ticker testing!

    One more try?
  11. I made chocolate chip pumpkin bread while on my pre-op diet. I rationalized it by the fact that it was pumpkin bread, so healthy (not true)! ... Made it worse as I then only ate the chocolate chips...!
  12. DITTO! I had to be readmitted 5 days post op for nausea/ vomiting' date=' my ugly: *7 pokes for an IV (dehydrated veins are difficult to find) now my arms (between IVs, blood draws, and heparin shots) make me look like a battered woman... My boyfriend actually get dirty looks when we are out in public... *in ED, while on stretcher I passed some gas. Oh wait, I mean I sharted. Big time. BIG TIME. It was nasty and incredibly embarrassing, and worst of all I had to throw away my favorite sweatpants *cant tolerate any medications orally (or else I throw up)... So now I'm home giving myself tylenol and compazine suppositories... Oh joy! I'm sure there will many more uglies before my journey reaches goal, as I am still so new to my sleeve. But those are some pretty bad ones there... Winner maybe?

    anybody own a vitamix substitute?

What version of the ninja do you have? I have never had any problems with it leaving chunks before- it pulverizes/ liquifies everything I throw at it. There are different models' date=' maybe we own different ones?
  14. I'm a PICU nurse- was just sleeved on Tuesday 10/15. Home now but definitely have a long way to go before I can even think about going back to work. My manger also won't do weight restrictions... (In a pediatric ICU, I could potentially have all 5-10kg babies, but without a weight restriction, I might have to care for a 100kg 17year old...). I was told ill need at least 6 weeks without lifting any more than 15lbs... What restrictions do other nurses have? How soon did you/ do you plan on going back to work? Are your managers giving you grief? I'm just nervous as I was originally optimistic that I would be able to go back after 4 weeks (with surgeon approval) if I was healing well enough, however, after seeing how difficult the first few days have been I cannot imaging going back to work anytime soon!

    Ticker testing!

    anybody own a vitamix substitute?

I think the ninja can be cleaned that way too but haven't tried yet- thanks for the tip, I'll try it next time!!
  17. I work in pediatric critical care- had surgery last Tuesday, and just thinking about going back on Monday makes me sick to my stomach! I jealous you felt so well, good for you! I figure since I can collect disability while I'm out, I might as well take the extra time to heal up properly- but that's awesome that you were able to jump right back into it!

    anybody own a vitamix substitute?

The mega system lets you make single serve shakes, or use it as either a small or large food processor (different attachments), and it's a large and very powerful blender too! It just has more versatility and options with it- instead of using several different kitchen appliances, you can do it all with the same one!

    anybody own a vitamix substitute?

I had a blender and a mini processor at home before surgery, as well as these single drink serve blender bottles too-- none of them had the power I really wanted so I was in a similar situation... Looking for a vitamix or something comparable. My friend has a vitamix and SWEARS by it. I wanted something more versatile, so I ended up buying the Ninja® MEGA Kitchen System 1500, which has just about (if not the same) amount of power as the vitamix, and does so much more! It is AWESOME! and less than half the price, if you buy at bed bath beyond you can use a 20%off coupon too! I bought it in store but you can buy it here, https://m.bedbathandbeyond.com/bedbathbeyond/product/detail.do?itemId=40517957 or on Amazon, or other places online. It is incredible- I completely recommend you try it- if you hate it return to BBB (they take everything back, no matter condition or length of time), but I don't think you will want to... It's really an amazing system
