  1. I am allergic to medical tapes and bandages. They create huge, red welts which usually end up being worse than whatever I'm trying to cover up. I've tried several different kinds and when I had a biopsy in 2011, I was told the tape they used would not cause a reaction and it did. Anyone else have a bandage allergy but do okay with what they use to put over the incisions for your bariatric surgery?
  2. Getting ready to get a food processor for making shakes, puréeing food, etc. I don't want to drop a lot of money but want to get the best value. What have you guys had luck with? Thanks!
  3. That's great information! Something I hadn't thought of with the extra air! Thanks!
  4. It's good to see others feeling this way! I mean it sucks but it feels like the only thing I was seeing were the excited posts lol.
  5. Thanks guys! I'm more calm now. I'm sure I'll continue to ride the emotional roller coaster between now and the 6th. I just keep reminding myself why I'm doing this. I think I just wasn't expecting to schedule so fast! Insurance was just approved yesterday afternoon! I decided on rny because my BFF just had her band removed today. It made her really sick. Then I thought about the sleeve but I worried about heart burn/acid reflux since I already have it. I didn't want to end up having to do a revision. So I said go big or go home lol. Just talk to your dr. There are people that argue for and against all forms. The hard part is determining what's best for YOU! Good luck! Feel free to contact me anytime. Maybe we can support each other's craziness! Haha!!
  6. Oh cool! That's not what I was picturing but it's below what I had budgeted and it comes with an endorsement so I will order it tonight!!! Thanks!!
  7. Thanks!!! I was planning to try to go to work after 2-3 weeks but they don't have "light duty" so it will just depend on work and the surgeon.
  8. Cool thanks!!! What model do you use?

    November Surgery Date

    November 6th!

    Mother is on my tail!

My nutritionist said to think of it as one cup. Half cup (2 oz) protein (lean meats, cottage cheese, 2 eggs, but only one yolk and she also said to poach it, not fry it because the fried egg can upset your pouch). Then no more than 1/4 cup can be fruit OR carb and the other 1/4 cup veggies. Hope that helps?
  11. I'm on Synthroid (was on levothyroxine but had a reaction to the genetic that I don't have to the name brand, my grandma has the same issue) and I have gained weight, lost handfuls of hair and do not feel any different since starting the med even though my levels have apparently returned to "normal." I plan on having my RNY within a month. As others have stated, the meds have not made a bit of difference for me. Try not to regret your decision if you can. Hopefully your overall goal was your health and WLS can help in achieving that. I absolutely understand how frustrating it can be when your doctors miss something though.

    Bandage Allergy?

Oh, I never thought about the IVs. I'll just have to make sure my parents tell any nurse that walks in while I'm out....

    Bandage Allergy?

It does stink! It's supposed to help you get better and it makes it worse. Have to weigh the options lol.

    Bandage Allergy?

Maybe I'll go to the store and get some and test them out! Hahaha. Don't think I've ever used them. I'll have to talk to my surgeon about it. Thanks!
  15. I am still pre-op and I am super excited to have surgery and have a new and healthier life. I have been so concerned that I'm going to regret my decision afterwards. I keep hearing that people often regret surgery after but that it usually starts to subside. If you did have initial regrets, how long did it take for you to feel like this was a good decision?

    Post-Op regrets?

I'm having rny because I've heard the acid reflux/heartburn can be terrible with the sleeve and I already have some problems with that if I eat certain foods. I've seen on here where sleevers have had to get revisions to rny. I want to skip that risk entirely. You should go over it with your surgeon to see which is best for you. There are pros and cons to both.

    Post-Op regrets?

Thanks for all the responses! It's good to see all the positivity that comes from having this surgery!

    Post-Op regrets?

Yeah, I've been talking to my friends about it. We've estimated the first 6 months to a year would be the worst and we are all prepared to support one another and work through it and I know it will all be worth it. I was just curious about other people's experiences.

    Anyone in Ohio?

I'm at Riverside too, but I have Dr. Rana! Looking at October for my surgery. Good luck on Tuesday and congrats!!!
  20. AutumnPunkin!!! You have no idea how happy it makes me to see that you do not regret your decision, even after complications (that sucks though, glad you are out of the woods with all that). That has been my biggest struggle in the preop process (other than fitting into booths, chairs, clothes, etc. Lol.), is that fear of regret. You look awesome!!!! Your post has made me feel 10x better about my decision. =) More than you know!
  21. Hey! I'm turning 28 in a couple months and will be having RNY early to mid October. I have my fur-kids but will be looking forward to many of the things you mentioned in your post! I'm so excited to start living an active life! I'm a little worried about skin, but I figure my stomach is screwed up now as it is, and at least I can hide the skin with my clothes. I guess intimacy will be a bit awkward and will make me self conscious but who knows... Right now, I'm struggling with the fear of regret. I'm afraid I will regret my decision afterwards and on the flip side, I'm afraid I'll regret it if I don't...so I feel like hearing some honesty would he great for me! I feel like I'm on a crazy roller coaster, one day I'm super excited and want to have my surgery now, then the next day fear kicks in. I know it's normal, but I'm driving myself crazy! Lol.

    Nutritionist...

My program requires three nutritionist visits, even if insurance doesn't. All of our nutritionists only focus on bariatric surgery patients (as do all the other staff, physicians, psychologists, surgeons, etc.) I spoke with her for an hour my first visit just on the numbers that someone getting RNY needs to focus on after surgery and she is having me change little things now. I'd be more than happy to send you the numbers when I get home! They do not have us even look at calories which is weird because it has been pounded into my brain lol. I have to watch fiber and protein and fats and sugars. Plus they give out a bariatric journal with all that info. I'd be more than happy to send you some of my notes if you'd like that I got from my nutritionist.

    2 months out with hunger

My program recommends six "meals" a day. Then they give the criteria for how much protein and fiber you should eat at each "meal" and the limit of fat and sugars at each meal. It made a lot of sense to me and it's supposed to help with 1. Making sure to get your protein and fiber and 2. Keep you from getting to that hungry feeling. Seems like every program is so different! it sounds like you are doing all you can to stay on track! If it's head hunger hopefully you get over that hump soon!
