  1. NJ Mom of 4' date='

Have you had your appointment with Neff? I went yesterday. I was surprised how quick and painless the visit was. Since I am hoping for a late December sleeve they have my Pre-op scheduled for Nov 27th. We'll see if I can get all my testing done in time for the appointment![/quote']

How'd it go? Did you like him?

  2. Thank you so much for all the info and I am so very glad we are "Sleeve Sisters" .... Maybe one day when we are all sleeved we can meet up somewhere and take walk or do something healthy... Since my first instinct is to say meet for lunch or coffee... But... Now I gotta figure a new way to socialize.... But hey maybe we can all learn together... :)

Meeting up would be great and I'm always available if you need help with anything or just have questions. I'm training for a 5k now and registered for the mudderella in may. You ladies could totally sign up if ull be recovered by then and we could do it together :)

  3. Thanks! Like everyone who is looking to take this drastic step I am devouring as much info as I can get' date=' so anything you would like to share is welcome. How long did Neff make you wait to drive or go back to work? Were you in a lot of pain, for how long? Anything that you felt surprised by?[/quote']

I was a me to drive when I stopped taking the pain meds and could deal just from Tylenol. I was not in pain in my actual stomach. Where my incisions are hurt. There was a lot of pulling and weird sensations. I had to sleep on just my back for about 4 weeks. The mindf*ck was honestly the hardest part. You go from being used to eating whatever u want to bein ridiculously limited. I wouldn't change it for the world but everyone is different. I am NEVER hungry but I know people who have had the surgery who say they are hungry all the time. It's really important to learn the difference between actual hunger and head hunger. If you can overcome head hunger u will be good :)

  4. Hi ladies.... I called the office today to ask about my psych clearance I had in December to see if it was still usable and while I had her on the phone I asked to switch and she did I can continue to use everything and since they are now associates I believe it is actually easier because they already have my file in the system .... I will just be seeing Dr Neff now instead of Dr G.... So I am excited because Dr Neff does more sleeves and Dr G is more LapBands....

That's great that it all worked out for you!! If you need anything let me know today is my 2 months out :) and I couldn't be happier with Dr.Neff :) good luck

  5. I have Aetna so i think it was more of an Aetna thing I had to see the nutritionist 3 times. It was 3 times over a 90 day period. I also had to see a pulmonologist, cardiologist, and gastroenterologist. I also had to have a psych clearance. I actually continued to see her even after my consult and I found that it prepared me so much for the the mental struggle surgery was.

  6. Thanks for the info. I'm contemplating switching to Dr. Neff actually. Do you remember how many sleeves these two docs have done respectively?

No not off the top of my head. We did have a discussion about it. A big thing was my mom was very nervous about me getting the surgery and Dr. Neff was able to answer every one of her questions and really set her at ease. He's very honest and up front about everything and really makes you comfortable. I didn't get that warm comfortable feeling from Dr. Goldstein, but that's just my opinion. You should do whatever makes you comfortable.

  7. I went shopping yesterday because my work pants are starting to get too lose. I drove my poor mother nuts. I'm like between sizes. I can fit a 16 but they just feel tight and I'm not used to that so it's uncomfortable for me. I did have a nsv at jcpenny though. I put on a pair of skinny jean, which is an absolute first for me bc I've just never felt confident enough to wear them. They fit!!! They were perfect!! I loved them!! I didn't buy anything else though. I just wasn't happy with the way anything looked. I ended up buying two pairs of shoes because shoes are always my go to. They always fit and never make me sad.

  8. I was curious about the Protein do you just mix it with Water? I guess I'm not sure if you can have shakes on the "clear diet" (first 2 wks?) and need clarification. I'm going to Mexico so don't have a surgeon per say to ask. I guess when I think clear liquid I think you cant have the protein...

With that said hang in there I'm sure it will get better and I'm sure you made the right choice! Feel good soon! :)

I asked my surgeon abt the clear liquid rule the day I went in for surgery because I tried the clear Isopure ready made drinks and thought I was gonna die. He said as long as I'm mixing y Protein with Water it was absolutely fine. I trust my surgeon a tremendous amount. He is the director of the bariatric unit at the hospital and I have not had a single complication. I couldn't imagine not having him to turn to.

  9. I am only 6 weeks out but I can honestly say with my mentality right now I can see myself being in this situation. I feel like I'm anorexic right now. I get all of my Protein and Vitamins but never exceed 700 calories. I get tired so easily and absolutely hate eating. I don't look forward to it. I dread it and when I do eat I am uncomfortable. I also do not venture towards many different foods for fear of hurting my tiny tummy. Thank you for sharing and being real abt it

  10. My discharge papers from the hospital said - sexual intercourse- encouraged- no lie!!! I had asked my dr the morning of my surgery abt it in front of my husband and he said I could do it the day after surgery really but ideally it's when Im comfortable with it. Saturday night was the first time since before surgery and i was 6 weeks out on Friday. I felt awful for my poor husband. I get really insecure about sex and possibly the lack there of it but I def hurt my abdomen doing it.

  11. I went back to work after two weeks. I'm a teachers I can sit as well but we had in service the first week and I was in hell from all the sitting in uncomfortable chairs. I felt like my abdomens was ripping open with every wrong move. A month back to work now I'm ok and it only hurts every so often :) hope it gets better for you

  12. I feel like if I try it it'll just put me in a nasty slippery slope of eating it all the time and I absolutely don't want that to happen. That is exactly what got me in this situation in the first place :/ I see the nutritionist and surgeon on Wednesday so I have so questions for them. I pretty much live off of Greek yogurt, Dutch chocolate Isopure, low sodium deli ham, naturally slender cheese, Oscar Meyer roast beef and sometimes lean ground beef. I'm not bored with it. I think honesty I'm just afraid to broaden my horizon for fear of pain :/

  13. I was sleeved on 8/19 and my post op loss has been slower than yours. I too felt like I couldn't "see" the loss (since my clothes aren't falling off me thanks to my stubborn hips and thighs). That is until the past few days when I decided to take pictures and compare them to my pre op pictures. There is a definite difference. Not as drastic as I would like' date=' but I'm sure my stubborn areas will get with the program at some point. I think the same goes for you and your trouble spots[/quote']

When I took a picture an put them side by side I could see the difference, but my pants aren't falling off either so I think that's why I'm discouraged :/

  14. Congratulations on your 37 pound weight loss so far. Don't worry so much that it doesn't show yet. In yo-yo dieting I have found that for me' date=' I need to lose 50 pounds for anyone to notice. And don't let your brother the fit nut beat you up emotionally. It was your decision to make, and if that is what it takes to get you healthy, you did no harm. Your health problems aren't the same as his. Just brush him off like a fly on your nose. I have lost 17 pounds so far on my pre-op diet. When I went in for my first surgeons visit, I had lost 1 1/2 inches around my neck, 2" around my ribs, and NOTHING around my 53" belly - still the freakin' same. My doctor explained that it is like the belly becomes its own living breathing organ that breeds inflammation and imbalance. The sleeve helps to correct that and in time the fat in the belly has to go along with the rest of it.......so just be patient...in a year you will be able to encourage other people to do what it takes to get their health and happiness back.[/quote']

Thank you so much for the reassurance :)

  15. I was sleeved on 8/16/13 and my hospital stay went well and I've had zero complications (thank god). The pain once I was home though was unbearable at times. Where my larger incisions are hurt even if I moved. I had bad buyers remorse. At 6 weeks out I feel better (most of the time) and I don't regret it at all. I've lost 37lbs and I'm so grateful for this whole process. Good luck with everything :)

  16. Crowsnestmama that's exactly what it is. I've always had this relationship with food and now I have to set reminders to eat and force myself to eat and food is the last thing on my mind. As of now I'm much better with all of it but the first couple weeks was horrible. On top of the pain I had around my largest incision. For weeks it had an awful tingling sensation and felt like I was ripping everything open. My core is still very week but feels a lot better :) I couldn't be happier with the results on the scale either :)
