  1. I've been cheating.... well I felt like I had but when I logged my meals into the myfitnesspal app on my phone I still manage to be under the 1200 calorie limit during my 4wk diet.

Due to nausea I am allowed 2 meals and 2 shakes a day. I usually do the healthy choice steamers but strayed a little while dinning out. Today is gonna be hard with all the family and foods around.... Mac & cheese and candied yams are my favorites!

There's a good book called "The Beck Diet Solution" which I recommend to everyone. It's CBT for weight loss. One of the principles is to give yourself credit. The author recommends even posting stickers around your home and work with just one word, "CREDIT", to remind you. For example, you're using myfitnesspal AND you're under your calorie limit! I hope this helps!

  2. True. I am currently 304 and my goal for the diet is to be able to have surgery at UNDER 300lbs! It's just been in the last year I've hit 300. I've maintained at about 270 for years. Sadly I was comfortable at this weight so kinda glad I hit 300 and got me into where I am now. Sad but true. Thanks for caring and for the chat. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Amen! Here's to everyone having a healthy and happy Thanksgiving!

  3. Ladies! I am on my three week HIGH PROTIEN, LOW CARB diet (pre-surgery).

I am one week in, tomorrow.

I have lost 6 pounds....I was lower yesterday than today, for a one pound gain.

I am pretty plugged up. Just had a small BM tonight, for the first time in three days.

I am eating tons of meat, cheddar cheese, broccoli and kale and suger free Jello and fat free whipped cream.

I have not had any crackers, Cereal, bread, fruit, grains etc...........I am following this three week prep to a T, as described by my doctor and nutirion gals. I have read up and know now all about KETOSIS. Talk about a rough day two and day three. I am over that........I feel really cleansed (body wise, not in the bowels though). I am pounding the Water, more than ever and I am consuming 120-160 oz each day!!!!!! Yes, that much water! I know that this is FIBER that I need. I am having a hard time getting it in when I am so limited on other things that I would normally eat that are high in fiber. I am also missing my NATURAL fruits so much! I am not allowed ANY fresh fruit at all during this three weeks. I am not to exceed 20 grams of carbs a day. I am keeping with it those guidelines, and I feel like I should be getting more bang for my buck...if you know what I mean. So, I am glad I FEEL great and not really hungry inbetween my high protien meals and such....but my tummy is bloated and I am not losing weight as fast I thought I would. Perhaps my body is still just adjusting to this NEW LOW CARB deal? Is my body in shock? I think so! Normally I would enjoy breads, crackers, chips, popcorn, sweets etc........no doubt, I am well aware of how I got to the weight I am! Feed back would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your pain in the rear. U-no-it is right about fiber fiber and water water. There are a lot of sugar free fiber supplements out there. At the risk of being gross, I use the sugar free psyllium husk ones when my pain in the rear happens. I use zinc oxide ointment when the tissues are tender. Oh and speaking as one, there are guys on this forum! Bariatric surgery isn't just a lady thing! ;-)

  4. Just went through the whole thread and gathered everyone's dates. I had to start skimming through it because it was taking too long so I apologize if anyone's date is wrong or has changed and if I left anyone out, but please feel free to correct it. At least we have a list to look at and see where everyone stands. GOOD LUCK TO US ALL and wishing everyone a safe and great Thanksgiving!

  5. Hahaha!! The surgeon's office certainly does! And they know to call me when they say they will too! It's just the nerves. I really am nice! Lol. And as you can see...wideeeee awake! But that's ok. I'm happy and well that's what matters. How's the diet ??

The diet's pretty boring actually. But that's why it's not sustainable, right? I wish I could help with your nerves.

  6. The only thing I've ever really taken is like Tylenol PM or advil pm. Every once in in a while Nyquil. .but It works! Problem is my husband works nights so I'm the sole provider for my princess and I won't take anything that will knock me out. I am 99% sure of she woke up I'd hear her but would never take the chance. Now tomorrow night!!! That's That's a different story! Lol. And can I just say I'm only on day 2 of this whole waiting for insurance game and I am about to go nuts! They are closed tomorrow (obviously) bur Friday too! I am trying to be happy that they have time with their families but yeah..so I'm calling on monday. They will know me by name soon enough! Lol

They better know your name! You're paying them! ;-)

  7. What list? I missed it...

Did you get the 3-ring binder from the NUT? It's in the Nutrition section, page 10. If not, it's basically any sugar-free, fat-free, liquid, (but the list also includes skim, 1%, or 2% milks). These can be consumed, along with Clear liquids, (like Water, broth, bouillon, herbal tea, sugar-free Jello, etc.), as Snacks between the Protein shakes. It DOESN'T list any food listed in the pureed or soft or regular foods lists. I hope these lists weren't just given to me!

  8. sleep ? What's sleep ? Last night I managed 3 hours which is pretty good for me recently! I just can not relax! I hope once I get the approval I can maybe get some sleep! 3 Luckily I get off at 4 today. Only an hour but hey I will take it! Getting some art supplies to making handprint turkeys with my daughter to give to her grandparents. I think I may actually lay down when she does tonight and MAYBE get some sleep! (if I'm posting at 3 am then obviously my plan failed) haha

I'm sorry about your sleep. I can't sleep without my CPAP. Occasionally I have to take a melatonin tablet to fall asleep. Have you tried melatonin?

  9. I am on day 7 th day and it gets easier. But fiber fiber and Water water!!! I found a low cal protien drink that I can add a low greek yogart and 1/2 banana and ice it lasts awhile. Are you getting your 800-1000 calories in a day?? I am so looking for tomorrow and a plate of food. Chewing is what I miss most!! Gum helps a bit!!</blockquote>

I chew on chewable vitamins! I'm getting more than the needed 80+ grams of Protein. It's about 120 - 150 grams per day. But I'm at the low end of the calories. Each protein powder scoop has 30 grams of protein, but only 170 calories. I'm losing weight too. I'm going to add vegetable juice (V-8) and Tomato juice. I'm drinking plenty of water and other clear liquids (broths, sugar-free Jello, and sugar-free popsicles), so it's so far so good in that area. If 12/4 is still your surgery date, I'll be thinking about you a lot that day!

It is the 4th!! Are we allowed to have v-8? I have beem using the soy milk for added protein. I am just really hyper vigilant and do things a bit over board at times.

Yes, we can have V-8. Really anything on the "full liquids" list that the surgeon's group gave us. We have to get in the habit of first having our protein though. I mix my powder with water. I suppose I could mix it with skim, 1%, or 2% like that list says. That would also help me get the calories I'm supposed to have. And I'll be praying for you on the 4th! ;-)

  10. This is only my first day! So far I'm not cheating. I'm able to set multiple alarms on my smartphone. So I have a Protein Shake every three hours. I have clear liquids in between. I could detail it more, but that might be too boring!

  11. I just want to share that I really don't like this pre-op.diet. I have not been ablentonget the 800-1000 calories and 60-70g of Protein a day. I also bought.gummie fiber pills!!!! That is something new!! 7more days!!!

Wanted to share about a friend I have who iss really worried about me. I don't have a partner or spouse I am alone. I am not alone in support though. I have a special friend who is having a hard time as I am losing weight now and doesn't understand why surgery. Told her I need help to keep it off. She cries, but she tells.people that say surgery is easy that it is not. She gets mad at the idiots. She sees what I am going through! I say kudos and thank you to those who GET IT!!!

I'm glad your friend is standing up for you. Please remember you're not alone here or in any other support groups you're in.

  12. So I am impatient and already called me insurance company. I think that I needed to hear from THEM that they were reviewing my file. And they are!!! They still claim 3-5 days! Ahhhh. This week is going to be rough! Once u have official approval I will be better!

;-) I have to admit that when I got my official approval for surgery I did rest a little easier!

  13. I had my Endoscopy Friday and that went well. According to the GI surgeon my stomach is "amazing". This was my first time being put asleep and power the nurse I'll "either be cranky or really happy after". Unfortunately I was extremely cranky but all the nurses thought I was hilarious (unfortunately they don't let you "try" to put your own IV in ;-)) so they are all excited to come visit me during my hospital stay. Got my final medical clearance from my PCP today. Last nutritionist appointment tomorrow then a final surgeon visit 12/6. No pre-op diets here just nothing heavy the day before! :-) I have exactly 12 days to get a few of my favorite things in. :-)

Before today I was looking at everything I like to eat as a last supper! I hope that when I'm back to regular foods those favorites are still, and I can at least have a half cup portion! ;-)

  14. So hopingnomeds how HARD has it been? Starting my pre op tomorrow night and hoping I don't want to chew my arm off from being hungry.... I know it's not going to be easy but I am hoping after the second day or so it gets better?

This is only my first day! So far I'm not cheating. I'm able to set multiple alarms on my smartphone. So I have a Protein Shake every three hours. I have Clear Liquids in between. I could detail it more, but that might be too boring!

  15. Before seeing my surgeon I had discussed the sleeve but the more research I did..I decided for the RNY. Which was good since I recently found out my insurance only covers the RNY and the band. I just asked because someone else had mentioned the sleeve but I was almost positive u were having the RNY. How's the pre op diet going ?

So far so good? I'm surprised how much food is just lying around my home and my work. Up to yesterday, I think that was a big part of my unconscious eating. Now I have to really focus. That is the worst part of this first day.

  16. I can understand about being ticked but I'm sure it is is a good choice. I've also been confused on way some surgeon's only require a 3 day or 1 day liquid diet verses my 2 week diet! Lol. But hey just means I'll lose some weight!

Exactly! My wife works closely with medical doctors and she said the liquid diets act to clear the small intestine while shrinking the liver. And even though we'll lose weight as well, like you said, that diet isn't sustainable. Otherwise we'd just go on Liquid Protein diets.

  17. I start the liquid pre-op diet tomorrow. A little ticked that my doctors office would not ok a small amount of food on Thanksgiving, since I've seen on here that many doctors did ok it. But I bought my Protein Meal Replacements and Vitamins today and had a practice run. I had that dern powder all over me. It was on my pants, keyboard, papers. I'm like no no no this won't work gotta do it at home lol!!!! God bless us everyone!

;-) Don't let those powders get the best of you!

  18. I was about to say they must have been not nice people! Lol. I spoke to surgeon's office and confirmed everything was submitted today and she assumes I will know by monday. And I also found out they want me on my pre op diet starting monday. I have been working on this since June and I can't believe I am 22 days away!! Grocery shopping this weekend for pre op diet ! Ordering my shakes and Vitamins too!! Did u buy bariatric vitamins ? I am just to be safe but not sure if there's an actual difference

I'm starting the Liquid Protein plus Clear Liquids diet tomorrow. I'm using Body Fortress brand whey Protein Powder. It's at wal-mart and the cheapest I've found. The surgeons group recommended Celebrate Vitamins. So I ordered those online today since I'll need to start taking them after I'm released from the hospital. Celebrate is also the cheapest bariatric supplements I've found.

  19. I hear you. I kept calling the surgeon's case mgr and the ***'s case mgr. As a state worker I have a board which contracts with an *** who also contracts with the bariatric surgery group. So I felt I had to keep bugging both case managers to get anything like timely responses. Even with that I began this journey last July and my surgery date's 12/10. You're in good company! ;-)

I don't know why but that last post of mine changed my acronym for Health Maintenance Organization to asterisks. I didn't want anyone to think I was using expletives. But I have to admit I've thought of some during this journey!

  20. I sure hope not. I enjoyed the time to be able to prepare and research however felt the doctors visits were pretty pointless but ya know.. whatever they want! I feel like they make that rule just so people who aren't serious won't complete it and then can't be approved but I did and it's over. Now we wait!!! Hoping this time next week we have an answer!!

I hear you. I kept calling the surgeon's case mgr and the HMO's case mgr. As a state worker I have a board which contracts with an HMO who also contracts with the bariatric surgery group. So I felt I had to keep bugging both case managers to get anything like timely responses. Even with that I began this journey last July and my surgery date's 12/10. You're in good company! ;-)

  21. I think it slso has to do with how much weighing in as the more you weigh the mote you must stay on liquid due to the liver size. Not sure though, but looking forward to it. I am just barely making the 800-1000 calories a day pre-op meals!!

I'm not sure either. I'm confident we'll all get through this and join the ranks of those who say they wish they could have done it sooner in their lives.
