I just have to remember to eat small amounts very slowly.

I mixed the bacon with the eggs. Yum! Also, homemade pizza toppings pureed are good. At least my wife's pastrami and cheese toppings pureed well!

That sense of smell in a daycare could be trouble alright!

Also pea soup and chili, each from a can.

My tastes have definitely changed. For example, the flavored protein shakes I had before surgery, I can't stomach now. They're way too sweet. Syrupy sweet. Also, water doesn't taste right. My NUT said I could add a little bit of crystal light to the water or a small piece of fruit to improve the flavor of water. That worked. My wife tried it and said it's too watered down for her. But it tastes best to me. I'm including a list of what tastes good to me now, so far. I've tried many things pureed, and several things I used to like are now revolting. They aren't on the list below. If you want to know the things I can't stand now, let me know. So here's the good stuff pureed, so far: Apple sauce, Cottage cheese, String cheese, Bacon, Vegetable/tomato juice, Water, with a tiny bit of crystal light or a tiny piece of fruit, Non-fat yogurts, unflavored protein shakes, Scrambled eggs, and Mashed potatoes from box. What are your favorites so far?

Sounds yummy! Let us know how it goes. I'd like to try some baked fish too.

Gas pain is WAY WORSE than they described. Walk as often and as long as you can. Drink as much water as you can. Lay on your pain side cause gas rises. And use those IV pain meds! They were my best friend!

Greenize: Soft foods shouldn't be a problem as long as you puree them in your mouth. I worry about fish bones in your baked fish.

I guess I'm crazy too because I also like pureed pea soup! Have you tried pureed chili? Nummy!

Yes, I've had scrambled eggs, but pureed only so far. I have to be very careful about how much I take in at once. I'm limited to about a teaspoon at a time, and a 1/4 cup at a time. My dietitian recommended cottage cheese with salsa pureed. Have you tried that?

My dietitian told me today to let my pouch "tell" me when to progress through the stages. She said the dates she originally gave me were what most patients progress thru the stages. She added that dry meats will be the last things tolerated. At 17 days from surgery, right now I can only tolerate liquids, pureed foods, and some soft foods. I hope that helps.

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

My dietitian suggests mixing crushed, bitter pills with vegetable juices. She suggests mixing calcium based meds and supplements with dairy like milk, or yogurt or pudding. I tried these and have to say they're only just better than taking them without mixing them. The bitterness of Plavix can't be beat! YUCK!

I only had a drain tube which was taken out the day I was released from the hospital. The incision the tube was in hurt the worst of all five incisions. But thankfully most of my incision pain is gone. Not all, just most. Have you called your doctor or on call nurse?

My doctor said I have to crush all my pills. Drug stores sell little pill crushers. Mine are extremely bitter. But they don't cause pain since I'm swallowing powder mixed with protein shake or other liquid or pureed food.

I've looked for the children's benadryl at Wal-Mart. Can't find it. I'll have to try Walgreen or rite-aid.

It's bitter medicine, but I bite into two generic benadryl gel-caps at bedtime. I suck out the benadryl and spit out the gel-caps. That helps me nod off. I'm also on pureed foods now until the 15th. I called the bariatric nurse and she said it's still most important to get in the liquids each day. More important than getting the "meals", pureed or otherwise. I also try to get the protein shakes in too. I hope that's helpful to those who need it. I found out my nausea and cold sweats were my body's version of dumping syndrome. I'm still getting used to how much to sip at once. Anyway, I hope for a wonderful family filled Christmas to all! Merry Christmas!

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

I'm glad your through the surgery. I hope things go better for your healing and recovery!

I've been feeling a little nauseous, with cold sweats most days. I think it has to do with taking too big of sips. I'm still on full liquids. I get to go to pureed foods tomorrow. I know I'm not dehydrated. I'm drinking four half-liter water bottles per day, and my urine's clear or light yellow. I still get dizzy now and then. But not as much since they have me on half my BP meds now. Does anyone else feel nauseous with cold sweats most days?

Greenize is right. It will get better. It's hard too see the future when you're in pain. But it will get better. Make sure you do what your medical staff say. And take advantage of those pain meds.

Red Stacey is right. And I've also heard we're born with about seven times the liver we need. Good thing too since we'll be using Tylenol from now on.

Same here. I had a drain too that they took out the day I was released. But that drain was on my right side. Red Stacey's right about one of the incisions having that liver retracter. It's usually one of the uppermost incisions. You might wanna watch one of the YouTube videos on a live RNY. I couldn't watch before my surgery. But it was most enlightening after.
