  1. My surgeon also has the same drinking regimen as your does. Also didn't have to do the barium swallow.

The pain was minimal after surgery and the hospital staff was right there to give something for it. They don't want you to hurt either.

Hope you have a very easy time of things. Just follow the doc's orders and you will do fine.

    Chris

  2. I'm in the follow the rules camp. I'm almost 4 months out and can honestly say I have followed the rules to a tee right from the start of the pre op--which for me was 800 calories consisting of 6 Protein supplements a day.

I made up my mind that I was going to follow directions. In 71 years of doing it my way I'd experienced little if any success. So it was time to let someone else tell me how to do it. And that is working well. I'm extraordinarily grateful to have found an A-1 surgeon that had experience with my age group and here I am 64 pounds less of me and very happy. So I will continue to follow his directions.

I urge you to follow your surgeons directions to the very best of your ability and wish you a successful surgery with a speedy recovery.

  3. Short answer--yes. I'm 3 1/2 months out and have been making casseroles that I really enjoy. I got the recipes from The World According To Eggface and jiggered the amounts around to meet my surgeons requirements of less than 30 grams of fat; 30-60 grams of carb; 60-75 grams of Protein and 700 cal. Or less per day.

I really like the ones I've tried and get my macronutrients in one 3 oz serving.

  4. LL I've followed you from shortly after your surgery and waaaayyyy before my own. You are one of the people on here that I see as a role model for being successful with this surgery.

Thanks for telling your story. It inspires me and keeps my resolve to follow my doctor's directions to a tee strong

    Great pics too!

  5. I'm 71 and 3 1/2 months out. I only regret I didn't have this option years ago. I am down 62 pounds and have more energy than I've had in years. Diabetes is gone and blood pressure meds cut in half. I have some joint issues so go to the pool 5 days a week for Water aerobics and resistance excercise.

If your parents are interested I would say to go for it.

Also research has shown tat us older folks as a whole don't have a higher rate of complications for this surgery than anyone else.

  6. My program doesn't forbid them, but one medium banana has 27 grams of carbs and I am only allowed 30 to 60 grams per day. So.... I don't eat bananas because I would have to skimp all day for the rest of my food and shakes. I log everything on My Fitness Pal to keep me on the right path.

Does your nut give you direction as to grams of carb, Protein and fat you are allowed per day?

I'm 3 months out and allowed 700 cal. per day--30-60 carb; less than 30 fat and 65 Protein.

Also am to eat protein first, then veg and then fruit if I have room and no more than 3 oz. per meal

Hope this helps and wishing you the best with your surgery

  7. Do you have access to a pool? I'm 20 years older than you but the pool is working for me. Sign up for a class or two. It's much more fun if others are doing it with you. And it burns a decent amount of calories too. It's also very therapeutic. Sometimes it's hard to go but I always come home relaxed and glad that I made the effort to get there.
