  1. could be salt intake did you eat ham by chance that does it for me all the time. I drink so much Water after I eat certain foods that the water flushes the excess weight right off. I watch what I eat and how much I eat and I exercise like a fiend go and get that thing called the Bean Walmart sells it for under 50.00 and it holds up to 400 pounds of body weight and is loaded with tons of exercises and well it does work and again it is a tool just like the band for the rest is up to the person. I weighed in at 279 pounds and I am now at 209, my normal weight should be 141 pounds for my build and height so I am not too far from my goal and I ahd surgery on September 10, 2007 so if I can do this so can you, please do not give up it will happen. Walk, run do what ever it takes. I park my truck in another lot when shopping and walk to the store that I actually want to go into in place of driving to it and finding the closest parking space. Good luck gal. PS I am from the Killeen, Texas area so howdy partner
  2. Hi, I have had three fills so far the first one was 1 cc the second was 2 3/4 cc and the third one was 1.5 cc and that third one did it for me. I feel very ristricted and Ic an tell from just the liquids that I have been trying to get down all day this is a lot different from the other fills. My band is a normal sized band not the large ones you read about. I had to ask that one today. I was banded in September of 2007 and I ahve lost 70 pounds and still going down slowly but sure. I do a lot of exercises and walking and well my hubby bought me a pair of running shoes for Christmas because I used to be a runner and I am starting to run again. I am down let me count 4 pants sizes and which means no more plus sized clothing for me. I would like to lose another 55 pounds or to get into a size 12 which ever comes first that is. I don't want to be a skinny mini not at pushing 55 years of age.
  3. My tummy gurgles and sounds like an un clogged drain sometimes it is loud and sometimes it is not. I was banded in September 2007 and lost so far 70 pounds wow. I had my third fill this morning and well I am not hungry anymore. My Dr. said that I am doing so good it is hard to believe and that he thinks its great because I did not gain weight over the holidays and that I lost weight. I have a normal sized band and I am about 3 ccs full total wow no wonder I can't eat. Chew Chew Chew or else you will throw it back up.
  4. Cindy I will be your support person. I had my band done in September 07 and had my first fill two weeks ago and go back for another one this week. My clinic is very supportive always giving good information and such. No one said this would be easy and sometimes you might not lose the weight and then others you might just lose a bit more. I get depressed because I want to lose more faster and I am doing real good. A total of 54 pounds came off but it has been hard from eating right and doing my exercise and walking alone does not help me very much for I get boared but I have to do it every day because if not I know I will fall back and I don't want this to happen. Don't give up it will happen.Email me at sharrroc@aol.com if you like I will answer. Sharon
  5. I cannot get my ticker to even work
  6. I have been buying the New Balance walking shoes at Kohls these dare great and comfortable too they run around 50.00 but get them on sale like I have been doing they are the white ones with the pink ribbon on them for breast cancer.
  7. Hi everyone just checking in to see how everyone is getting along. I am doing great...I had my band on Sept. 10, 2007 and I had my first fill two weeks ago and got 2cc's put in and did anyone feel thier band inflate by chance I sure did. I go back on Nov 7, 2007 for my second fill and can't wait to see the difference. I eat real slow and small bites and well I have had my moments to where it gets stuck like but no vomiting I just sit back and relax until it passes, it feels like a vice grip for sure. I ahve lost a total of 54 pounds and holding. I lose on an average 4 pounds per week. With the band I have lost 42 pounds before the band 12 pounds. I am down from a size 24-26 to a size 18 and counting as I call it. I went to Kohls on Thursday to get a coffee pot for my hubby and had to stop by the ladies department just to try on a few things, I call it my incentive plan and well when I put on that womans size 18 I just flipped out and then I tried on in the regular misses department two coats and well both were an XL and I need to lose about 10 more pounds to fit nicely, my DH just smiled and said it was worth it right? and I said yep. I told him I will start getting me some new colthes after january 1, 08 because I am already walking out of my jeans now as it is. I gave away 4 bags of my old but very nice fat clothes and kept some because I can alter them as I go down and I already have. I have a goal to lose 23 more pounds by the end of the year that takes me down to an even 200 not too shabby coming from a 279 pound woman.
  8. I gave up all soda in May of this year I gave up coffee and tea also and same for me it all all too easy. I feel so much better not so nervous and up tight
  9. I was told no soda and no straws ever no caffine either no icecream no real junk food oh live and let live
  10. I ahve ben exercising for a number of years now and I started again after my post op visit a week after surgery and continue to do so twice a day. I don't go to a gym I ahve a treadmill and a tony Little Gazelle at home and use both all the time. I have two different kinds of hand weights one set I use for walking and the other set is a bit heaver so I use them at home. I do 150 sit ups in one setting and I do the spread your legs wide and touch the toes around 50 reps twice a day, I use my pilate bands man am I tired and I do walk one day I will join a gym however where I had my band done at they actually give you an RX for their physical therapy area and you get to use the equipment that they ahve and get a trainer too but the gas milage might keep me away. I am over an hour away and I can't be driving back and forth. My Dr. said it was OK for me to do the exercises that I have been doing.
  11. Hi everyone I have a question I would like to throuw out to someone that might be able to help mke here. On the day I had my surgery I did not have this problem however once I got home the following the day I found that something was a bit off about me. On the top of my right foot in the area where your last two toes are and if you run your finger from the toe area to the top of your foot inbetween the toes and front on top of the foot I can feel sensation if I run my nails across it however if I apply pressure even a light pressure I cannot feel the pressure it is like numb and if I prop my right foot up I can feel like a nerve pulling from the mid part of the calf running down to the foot and now get this, I have been experiencing behind my right ear lobe a slight pressure and burning sensation, it comes and goes and I never had tese problems before going into surgery. When I was in the hospital I had to wear these things called foot pumps that attach to the feet and are secured by velcro and they pumped up air one at a times and then released air one at a time, I had to wear these while in bed. I exercise all the time and did so for years even before surgery so I know that is not the problem. I don't have any lower back pain like I had in the past due to a good weight loss, it used to be that my right leg would go numb once in awhile due to the lower back problem and behind my neck where the top of your spinal cord starts I call it the upper bump area well it has been numb for so many years due to an old injury and well now I have feeling back. Seems like my nerve pain is shifing for some reason. I will see my regular Dr. in the near future and tell her of this to see what she thinks should be done.
  12. Hey you look just like me LOL my port is to the right of my larger incision. You have staples I was glued and had disolving sutures. I had my first PB tonight and man did that hurt, it felt like my liquids just got stuck, I had surgery soon to be 4 weeks ago come this Monday. I am doing really good still on stage 4 of my liquid diet called pureed foods and this is beginning to wear out its welcome becasue I cannot find anything that I really can tolorate after the first 3 bites.
  13. OK folks I must be odd person out here. I am not spending time throwing up and yes I do have the lump like feeling my my throat. I can eat soups but only creams or broths because I ahve not had a fill as of yet and I am still healing on the inside. I am now into the pureed foods section of my binder and I have pureed, tyson 2 oz chicken in the can, I added just a squirt of Ranch dressing from South Beach and a pinch of sweet relish and blended that all up in my magic bullet, it was tough going but I managed to eat about an ounce or so and then it got to me, I did the same thing with my tuna, it was not too bad and well the dog enjoyed the leftovers lol. I cannot eat scrambled eggs like in the past for it makes me just sick, I have tried oatmeal, grits and my beloved cream of wheat and well forget all of those. I don't have a problem with my hubby eating in front of me because I am the one that makes his meals and well that is the hardest thing to do wanting to nibble but standing tough. I don't know what life will be like for me once I get my fills but maybe just being able to eat something normal might help make me feel human again
  14. I had my band done a few weeks ago and before that I attended a nutritional class with other people and we discussed as a group as what we can and cannot eat before and after surgery. I am following what the Dr. ordered until I get my first fill on October 28 not much to really write about. Seems like the only thing that really helps me and sticks to my ribs sort to speak is my blended up refried no fat beans, I add a bit of water and then blend it all up in my magic bullet blender and heat it up and since your eating slow well it takes me at least three times during the day to eat one can if not longer.
  15. I drink coffe once in awhile and when I do I use Folgers Half/cafinee and half regular it is not too bad and well I gave up soda pop in May of this year
  16. Hi everyone I have been reading all the comments here and well i called my Dr. and asked the nurse what are my chances of not getting my fills if I am losing the weight and she told me that the Dr. has never told a patient no that he does not want for his people to be left hungry so I will get my fills and my first one will be due on October 24. I have lost 42 pounds and I was banded on September 10, 07 my weight loss began before I had my band put in and well I refuse to gain a pound of it back. I am still on my liquid diet going into the pureed part now and it is not so bad, but I do keep my ounces down and I have a good protein suppliment too, but let me tell you I have one louder than life growling tummy, but it could be gas or digestion rumbling around according to my sis the diet guru. I alos walk daily and have my own exercise program at home. I am down from a 26 to a 20 and cannot wait to see size 18 and even less in the future.
  17. Carlene I was just banded on 9/10/07 I started my weight loss during the summer to see if I could do it and I managed to lose some weight on my own. Since surgery I have a combined weight loss of 40 even pounds.I cannot begin to tell u how this makes me feel. I don't miss my sweets not even my diet soda. But I bet ya that I could also worm my way through a bag of cheetos too! LOL on me. I am 54 years old. I walk, exercise and do what ever it takes to make it to my goal which is another 70 pounds and darn I am going to do it. By the way you look fantastic. Sharon
  18. I just turned 54 I wa banded on September 10 I lost 28 pounds since my surgery yep 28 pounds so that is a total of 40 pounds gone for me. I went to my ist pre op visit todaya dnwell everyone was happy for me. My Dr. said hey it looks like you have lost some weight and just smiled at me. I cannot tell you how this makes me feel. I started off around 270 pounds and I just topped the scale at 230 pounds.not too shabby I have to say. I am going to stick to the doet plan that he gave me until I get banded in 5 weeks. I wish everyone great success asI had and if your a slow loser it does not matter because you are losing and heck maybe I will only lose another 5-10 pounds before my 6th weeks but it is a loss and that is all I care about.
  19. You know I startd out at 276 pounds and I went donw to 248 pounds before surgery I asked my Dr. about having the bypass at my last pre op appointment, he told me that all in all lap band patients will lose their weight from being banded, he said that by the ned of a 5 year peroid and this is statistics only that the lap band patient will lose the same amount of weight that a bypass patient would, it just takes longer and most bypass patients over a 5-10 period of time might regain their weight were as long as you have the band and adhearing to a lifetime of instructions you will lose the weit=ght and keep it off. I am now 230 pounds and if I can be banded and I have no fills yet for my surgery is a week old tomorrow then I know others can to and I could never lose weight. I am Italian, German, Dutch and well we love to cook, bake and eat.
  20. stay away from the gatoraide I was told that it has way too much sugar and carbs in that stuff I am drinking crystal light and water
  21. Wow I lost my weight in the hospital and after I came home. I was banded last Monday. I am still losing weight and hoe to keep it up too
  22. If you begin eating solid foods before the 6 weeks then there is the possiblitly that the new stoma can close itself off and then you back in the hospital. I have a nice big black binder full of all kinds of band info given to me by my center. If you stay to the diet as I am now doing you will still lose some weight becasue I know that my restrictionsare starting next week is 5 meals a day and 2 snacks and your only getting 2-4 ounces per meal and if it is liquid or even semi liquid you will still lose weight at least I know this is how it has been for me. I had my band last Monday and been on straight liquids since last Sunday and my weight is coming off.
  23. Hi Mike Sharon ehre. I was banded on Sept 10, 07 and yes I had the dry ehaves for about 5 minutes but none since. Yes I understand your position here. I almost ran out of the holding room but everything went fine. I was given something to relax me and well it did. I remember going in to OR looking at the above lights and then I was waking up in recovery. 45 minutes it took for me and I had a hernia too or at least I was told long ago that I had one and if you have one it has to be repaired before you can become banded. Mike it is not that bad. If I can do it then anyone can. Keep the faith.
