    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Oh my goodness. That is incredibly rude! But you are too close to a major goal accomplished and there's no time to think too long about this person's words. I think sometimes people just don't know what impact their words actually have.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hi Everybody! I haven't gotten a chance to say Congrats to all those who have been sleeved so far this month!!! I bow down to you because I'm still waiting for my day with anticipation, excitement, and nervousness. It's a heady combination. . I had my last pre-op consultation with my doctor on Wednesday and have decided to do the morning of Dec 17th instead of being the last patient on Dec 16th. So my day was changed. My doc did not put me on a pre-op diet and, unfortunately, over the Thanksgiving break, I gained about a pound. At least the scale says that. I was super upset about it because I've been very mindful of my eating but not enough, I guess. I'm trying not to feel so discouraged about that and stay hopeful about the changes I have made and will continue to make. Anyway, again Congratulations! And I can't wait for my own day!

    Congratulations!!!
  5. I'm more than a bit surprised. Again, I'm so glad you posted this topic because so many folks are speaking up.
  6. Sleever427, thank you for posting this! I was having the same thoughts. My doc didn't prescribe a pre surg diet either. My nut talked to me about how to eat, but more of an in general situation. concentrate on Fiber and Protein. cut back carbs severely. keep caloric intake within 1500/day. be accountable for what I put in my mouth. stay away from empty calories. Outside of these things, I've been given nothing else. Are you getting your surgery at Lenox Hill in manhattan by any chance?
  7. The time is going by too fast!!!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hello! I haven't been on the site for a bit and see that you have the same date as me! My approval process was much shorter than I thought it would be but I really took my time on the process of getting everything together. I spent that time making absolutely sure that this is what I wanted to do. I am very thankful that of all my friends and family I told, I only got one negative reaction. But, even with that, I realized that I was looking for other people's approval and validation for the decision. Eventually I realized that good reception or bad I had to make this decision absolutely for and by myself. It was relieving for me in a way and sort of solidified my decision. In any case, I hope for the very best during this pre-op time and even better for your surgery and post-op experience. I'm so excited and nervous! What an adventure!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hi! My name is Robin. I'm 5'5 and 300 pds. My goal weight is between 140-150 pds. I am soo happy to be able to say I have a scheduled date!! I'm due to be operated on Dec 16th. My doctor is Dr. Yatco at Lenox Hill Hospital in Nyc. I have a few tests to complete which should be done after tomorrow with my primary doctor and then I meet with the surgeon on the 20th. I'm excited and nervous. I love reading about other people's successes and drawbacks. I've been going to youtube increasingly these days to follow other people's video journeys as well. I think it's a great resource. Welcome Everybody!!

10 wks post op 50 lbs down!

Hi Samantha! My name is Robin. I'm pre-op. I am so curious to hear about your experience so far if you are open to sharing. I'm excited and anxious and all the emotions in between about this surgery and I want to hear about people's experience who were in my boat not too long ago. Welcome to the board! And I look forward to hearing from you.

    Dr Roslin, NYC

I'm working with Dr. Yatco. It just so happened that I could not meet with Dr. Roslin on the day he was available so I saw Yatco. I liked his manner and thought he was very patient and thorough with the info given. I am still in the process of getting my medical stuff together. I did the nutrition class and one on one with Sharon, did the psych eval, I got the support letter from pcp, and I'm working with my pcp to do the six month weight history. Throughout this, I've found a lot of the staff at Lenox to be informative enough but not very warm. I have decided that I don't need warm. I need efficient and that they seem to be. I'd love to follow along with you on your journey as well since we're going to be doing it at the same hospital. I'm hoping I'm close to submitting everything and would sooo love to get the surgery before the year ends. We'll see how it all goes.

    Who Are You?

I love you motto! It's about the people and not about the food. I feel like that is soo important to remember. It prioritizes what's important, relationships, and decriminalizes food at the same time. Thank you!

    Who Are You?

Hi All! My name is Robin. I'm from Maryland but living in Brooklyn, NY now. I'm 30. Single, no children (I couldn't afford them here anyway). I'm in social services and I work with homeless youth. I have been battling my weight since I was a teenager. I have always felt "big" and that turned into feeling "fat" at a very young age. My mother struggled all her adult, post children, life with obesity and finally developed type 2 diabetes. She died at age 63. My father who also struggled with obesity as an adult, had high blood pressure and died at age 69. My reasons for deciding to get this surgery are many but one is because I'd like to live longer than my parents. I see the road ahead for me - failed dieting, increased anxiety, onset of horrendous health conditions which will kill my life before they actually kill my body, etc. etc. - and I'm saying no to that road. I realized this year that surgery is a tool that I need to take care of my health, and to build the kind of life that I want. I KNOW it will NOT be easy at all but it has given me the kind of hope I have not had to even motivate myself to make better changes. I happy to say that my life so far and currently is not an awful life. I had tons of support in people that I love and who love me. I have a lot of newfound hope and excitement for my future. I am growing spiritually and emotionally on a daily basis. I am looking for this physical lifestyle change to add to the other wonderful things going on already. That's a little bit about my journey in a nutshell. I am sooo grateful for this sight. It has put a lot of things in perspective for me and has given me the kind of support I had been looking for when I started this journey.
  16. Thank you!! That was a good read and the exercise ideas are great.
  17. Hi Chass. I'm still in the process of "applying for" the surgery so I'm not in the same boat as you yet. However, I wonder if some of the fear and nervousness is coming from the fact that this is such a HUGE decision and a life changer. Even though you were struggling with health issues and weight, it was still familiar territory. This surgery and what comes after is not. I think the fear may be a reaction to that. It's your body processing and it's natural. That being sad, I encourage you to embrace the decision, breath, and cry/scream/cry again if you need to just to release some of the emotion into the atmosphere and out of your head. And, I would say, use your support system. Get a couple of hugs in and let people support you in real life as well as in virtual world. That's my two scents. Good Luck!!! You'll do fine. R
