I usually buy vanilla and then add flavor of some kind to it. I get those flavor syrups that coffee shops use and make my own flavors. I use torani, and Davinich both brands come in sugar free, or regular. Also if you have a Gloria jeans or borders near you they both have their own brand of syrup for sale. My favorite place to buy the syrup is cost plus world market, they are everywhere and have a huge selection (including seasonal flavors) I have also found both brands at value city, and Marshall's. Gourmet stores carry some high end brands, and Wal-mart has a limited selection of small bottles in the coffee section. You can also add your own peanut butter, fruit, or Hersey's syrup for flavor (they come in sugar free now too). ~Mandy

Jodie, you are a wonderful young lady. Even though we have disagreed, I totally believe that you have so many great qualities and have had some major struggles to overcome. I have a bi-polar daughter so I understand the ups and downs that you face. If you ever want to chat or need someone to talk to please PM me. Don't be afraid or nervous about counseling, it can be very relaxing and refreshing. Also ask about a support group for people your age, knowing others with the same problem can make all the difference in the world. See if there is a N.A.M.I. chapter in your area (national alliance of mental illness) They run some wonderful programs ranging from depression to full blown paranoia schizophrenia. My daughter is 5 and attends a group meeting twice a month and is also seeing a therapist, (alternating weeks with us and without) and is improving each and everyday. I hope for a good match with the therapist you have chosen. Best wishes to you. ~Mandy -
We have street parking stickers where I live. The clear ones that stick to glass come off easily with a bit of nail polish remover. ~Mandy

Dianne, thanks for thinking of Abi while all this is going on. Did I miss something about your DD being sick? I would call back today and tell them that you are still hurting and want to be seen. If there is something you are worried about keep calling. Offer to take a digital picture and email it to the doc, if it is a visable problem. Keep us updated, (((hugs))) ~Mandy

Mary, have you tried ensure? They make these nutrition bars now too and they are good. I get them at walmart in the baby section. They are like a meal replacement in a snack sized bar. Abi does ensure when she won't eat, it's healthy and gets her vitamins and some fat/calories in each day. ~Mandy

Then she shouldn't have written a "Tell-all" book, it was a load of crap. She promised to tell her story and then simply left it at medical intervention. I also had medical intervention before being banded. I was on phen-phen, a medically supervised all liquid diet (for 6 months!!!) and several other options. Saying medical intervention is a cop-out. She profited from overweight peoples desperation, just like all the diet companies do. I liked her until she lied to the public, and scammed them out of money for a book that was filled with fluff and no honest answers. ~Mandy

A few years ago my brother-in-law was giving his kids their vitamins and the littlest one grabbed all 3 and swallowed them up. He didn't think anything about it as it was only 2 flintstones chewables. He put her to bed and then went to bed himself. Several hours later she came into the room crying saying her hands were hurting. Well her elbows, wrists, and all the joints in her fingers were swollen and very red. After a trip to the ER where they determined it to be a vitamin overdose, she was fine. The ER doc said they see many many cases each year. I have a friend that used to tell her daughter that the vitamins were candy. One day my friend was taking tylenol and her daughter asked if she could have some of her candy too...that scared my friend into explaining what medicines are and that there is a difference in medicine and candy. I am lucky, my daughter asks about everything, even candy from my parents before eating it. She has other medical problems so she knows to be careful when eating anything. I am sorry that you had to go through this, but I'm glad everything turned out ok. ~Mandy

If you are not on solids then bm's won't be solid. I was told liquids in, liquids out. Same would go for purees I would think. I know when I get a fill and have to do a day of liquids, then a day of purees and then soft foods then real food, I too have diarrhea. ~Mandy -
Princess Abi returned to school yesterday and did very well. She is at school now. I am going to take a nap. I'll be back later. ~Mandy

I also had a problem with the way she handled the wedding. She sold out to get everything for free. My hubby says that he believes she denied havng surgery because they made her pay for it. If the surgeon would have done it for free she would have been the poster child for his practice. That sounds about right to me. ~Mandy

I agree with the whole privacy thing but she wrote a book and said it was a tell all about her lovelife, weightloss and general life. Then she never mentioned WLS in the book. That is not a tellall, that was a shitty way to sell her books. She gave many women hope that they could do it too, and she would tell them how in her book. That is my problem with her. That and she thinks she is the hottest woman in the world now, and she brags about all the men that want her. To me that just makes her look desperate. ~Mandy

Sometimes the hospital takes long to submit the bills. I know that we had a trip to the ER and the doctor submitted right away, the hospital waited 3 weeks to submit their bill. I agree, if they paid the doctor I am sure they will pay the hospital. ~Mandy

Actually they said on court tv today that she was on regular doses of the meds she was taking. Nothing should have been toxic. The fever, her system being weak from depression and the virus all made her more prone to an overdose. She had been on the combo of drugs for quite a while, the only new meds were antibiotics. She was injecting human growth hormones into her hip and there was infection in the injection site as well as a mass on her butt cheek that was infected. There were 9 medications in her system all considered within normal doses. ~Mandy

I was allowed to eat mashed potatos on day 4. No problems, I just made them thin, also try making them with chicken broth instead of water. ~Mandy

I donated all my clothes to charity. When my mom asked me why I got rid of them so soon, and asked if I was worried about having to buy big sizes again, I asked her if she was upset that I didn't give them to her. That shut her up pretty quickly. This is the same mother that kept telling me that I could lose the weight on my own if I would just stick with a diet forever. She was against me having surgery until 6 months after I did it. 2 weeks before surgery she asked me why I was so determined to be thin and I told her that I didn't want to be like her, fat and unhappy in my 50s. Now my "aunt" my mom's best friend is being banded and it's just the best surgery ever, and it saved my life according to my mom and my "aunt" is being encouraged to call me for information and support. Mom's are sometimes toxic, but it's makes us stronger. ~Mandy

Hi guys, I just got home from picking up Abi. She had a great last day at the center. Tomorrow we retun to her regular school, she wants to keep going to the center. I have already talked to school and have made the follow up appointments for the next week or so. The weather here is great, it's in the low 70's and only partly cloudy. I am starting to think about plants for my back yard and for the flowerbed in front of my house. I need something that will work well with very limited sun for the back yard, we have a very small yard with a privacy fence, and my house is 2 story so it blocks most of the sun. The front yard gets direct sun most of the day. I am looking at possible butterfly bushes for the front of the house. I have a flower bed that I want to till under and plant grass and just incorporate it into the yard ( I dont have a green thumb at all) I have some roses that are not coming back yet, I don't think they are going to at all. I am also thinking about lavender, it smells nice seems hardy and purple is my favorite color. Also I don't have to replant each year. Any suggestions for anything else? ~Mandy

I have a relunctant PCP, how can I convince her?
piercedqt78 replied to Annie's topic in Insurance & Financing
My previous doctor told me that if I was banded she would no longer care for me. Notice I said previous doctor. I went to a support group for weight loss surgery and ask for reccomendations for supportive doctors, I left with the name of at least 10 docs that would take care of me and also had some experience with WLS. My doctor is always happy to make sure any pills he prescribes are small enough, crushable or he writes for liquids. He also has my weight, BMI and measurments in my chart. He called the weight loss surgeon and asked for copies of my labs to be forwarded to him so they can work together and not have to repeat any blood work. My previous doctor had nothing noted in my chart for weight, blood pressure, weight related issues or my past diet attempts. She never mentioned my cholestrol levels, except when labs were drawn. She denied giving me a low fat low cholestrol diet to follow, until I faxed her a copy of the diet on her letter head. Make sure you have a good PCP in your corner, they can make the journey so much easier. ~Mandy -
I only have a second, today is going to busy. Today is Abi's last day at the mental health center. She is a bit sad, she really likes it there, she says being able to talk in the group sessions makes her feel happy. She also thinks that she will be behind at school. I doubt that, her teacher is a bit of a flake. We have been working on the worksheets that were sent home from school each day. The sheets are adding and subtracting money, the same thing that my niece in 2nd grade is just starting to learn. There was no introduction to addition and subtraction and then adding the money factor in, it was all thrown at the kids at one time. I am going to guess that there are a bunch of kids lost right now. It's good to know that she did well in the program and I too wish she could be there longer but we will work on her emotions at home and try to get her caught up before 1st grade. I am enrolling her in some summer programs that are for kids struggling in school. Well I have to go I have to make an appointment for Abi to see a counselor and I have to make sure that the psych appointment is confirmed, we need these dates for discharge this afternoon. I'll try to check in later. ~Mandy

I can eat the chicken fries from burger king, nuggets from wendy's, but McD's nuggets kill me. If we go to taco bell I get the bowl, loaded with meat, beans, and some sour cream, no tortillas and no rice. It makes 2 meals for me. ~Mandy
