    February/March 2014 sleevers

Thanks, I feel better every day and everyone has a different experience. Mine wasn't the most pleasant, but it was worth it. I know I'm gonna have a new life with this sleeve and am eager to start it.

    February/March 2014 sleevers

The first day, when I woke up from surgery I was literally in agonizing pain. I honestly thought something was wrong and I was truly dying a painful death. It took about an hr, but they finally got my pain controlled. After that initial dose of pain meds (dilaudid) that actually worked, I was up walking. Feeling horrible but walking. I was proud Bc all I'd had other than right after surgery was Tylenol. On day 2 I woke up dry heaving and it felt like I'd been ripped into pieces. I have on the ear patch thing, they were giving me both zofran and phenergan to no avail at first. But through all that I didn't ask for pain meds Bc I didn't think I needed them. Well, last night I was doing great and then bam!!!! I felt like I was being stabbed repeatedly in the ribs and it took my breathe away. I had to be given 4mg of morphine to take the edge off. I was told it was common for gas to collect there n hurt like that. Omg it was scary. Now it's morning and my release date (if I get the all clear) is today. Of course I wake up too nauseous to function. This has been a very difficult procedure. Very painful and even I had a moment wondering if I'd made the correct decision. I know I did. But these few days have been the most painful days in my life. I just hope ppl realize that they never know. U could feel little to no pain or you could be crying in agony. Do not go in this blindsided. Even after everything I've been through I'd still have this surgery. A few days of pain is worth having a lifetime of healthy.

I DARE another person to tell me it's the easy way out. I've experienced an exorbitant amount of pain. Then nausea and dry heaves. Then I just had such pain that it took a large dose of morphine to take the edge off.

  13. I wish I'd known, and been more prepared for, dry heaves feeling like you were being ripped apart. Even with an abdominal binder on I wish I'd have known how much pain id be in when I first woke up. It took an hr to get to the right pain med I wish I'd known how wonderful my nurses would be at taking care of my needs. I would have saved me a lot of worrying I wish I'd known what an On-Q pain pump was Bc if have requested that on previous surgeries as well. Lol

    having surgery tomorrow!

Thank you!! I'm ok right now. Just relaxing and listening to my new yummy gurgle as I chew ice. There is a special area dedicated at Norman Regional Hospital to bariatric patients and they are such great staff. I've never had nurses so on the ball. I'm glad I chose to have my surgery here. I figured out that some liquids just make me nauseated do am sticking with ice for now. The gas pain us very bad Bc of referral pain. When gas pushes against your diaphragm, since the diaphragm itself doesn't register pain, it refers that pain into your left shoulder. I'm getting up and down out of bed on my own and walk when I feel up to it. All on all, even after the dry heaving this morning, today is a better day. April

    having surgery tomorrow!

Well, I ain't gonna lie... That was probably the worst pain I've ever felt when I woke up from surgery. It took them about an hr to get my pain taken care of. But we got it under control. I've walked quite a bit and did what's called the blue ice test. I eat ice colored with some type of blue dye and they make sure none comes out in my drain tube as an extra leak test. I still look like I've been noshing on smurfs. My vision is extremely blurry Bc of the nausea patch, and I'm so very nauseous that I've been dry heaving this morning. I have a low-grade fever, which is normal after surgery, but I still feel totally wiped out by it.

    February/March 2014 sleevers

Hey friends!!! It's me. The nausea patch behind the ear makes everything blurry. Lol I really had it rough when I woke up. I can honestly say it was the worst pain I've ever felt. They started giving me pain meds every 5 minutes to get my pain under control. I still have gas pain, but at least the abdominal pain is taken care of. In about an hr and a half I have what's called a blue ice test. I'm given ice that is dyed blue. I eat it slowly as tolerated and they ensure no blue is in my drain tube. I ain't gonna lie, this has been really rough. Really painful. I always thought I'd tolerated pain well until today. I guess this one would've been ok had they not did the pain meds the way they did. I can barely hold my head up and stuff so I'm gonna get off of here. Thank you all for such awesome support. April

This is your surgical captain Lindsay speaking. April made it out of surgery before nine, but is still in recovery waiting for a room. She was in extreme pain when she woke up, but it is now more manageable. Stay tuned for an update!
