Single incision
I was looking at that same doctor and procedure but decided on his colleague dr Valenzuela with the traditional 5 incisions based on cost and I figured it was less practiced than the traditional procedure. And couldn't help but wonder why so few docs do that procedure. I dunno... I also know that the little incisions from my robotic hysterectomy all the same size as these ones will be, have all healed and become basiclly invisible within a year. But if you're going with single incision with that Doc, he does have an excellent reputation. Good luck...

Survival skills for the 14 day pre-op diet
Tomorrow starts day three of my 14 day pre-op diet. I will admit, I was rather nervous about it. My main concern was not having enough energy to get through my rather physical work day. I'm here to say... It's really not that hard. Everyone's pre op diet seems to be slightly different. Mine is 11 days of 900 cals (3 Protein shakes+ 1/2 cup lean chicken, fish or 1 egg/ 3 cups lettuce and a few sprays of fat free dressing) Days 12-14 are strictly clear liquid. I thought it would be nice to start a thread where ppl can post some good survival techniques to help those who are going to be doing their pre op diets and are nervous. Things that have helped you get through easier. Here's my list... Pls feel free to add your ideas as well. Lord knows I will probably need some of them as the days go on! 1. I pre pack exactly what I need to consume throughout that day (including 90 oz water) in my ice chest. If it's not in my ice chest, it does not go in my mouth! (Aside from the Vitamins which I need to discontinue taking 7 days before surgery) 2. When driving down the road...only look straight ahead...turning your head side to side means you'll be bombarded with all the evil food signs. And I personally think they posted a few extra food ads and restraunts since I started this diet two days ago! They are EVERYWHERE! 3. If your favorite TV channel is the Food Network, like mine... Find a new favorite! I'm watching "Lock Up Raw" tonight... The food they feature on this program is certainly not making me hungry! 4.once you've finished all the food/drink you can have for the day, if you're still hungry... Add crystal light or Dasani drops or something with flavor that you like to Water bottle and fill up on that! 5. Stay busy! I've been working my a** off to make as much money as possible before I go down for post op recovery. The side benefit is that the day is over before I know it! I plan on staying super active Til they wheel me to O.R. Well that's all I have so far, might think of some more tips and hopefully others will too. 2 down, 12 days to go! We got this Best wishes everyone...

Celebrate multi-vitamins
Actually, according to my primary care physician... Spacing your vitamins out is best. Your body can only absorb so much at a time. Calcium must be spaced out for instance and cannot be taken with iron. Looking forward to trying my sample pack of celebrate after my surgery in two weeks. They look great!

The Pool at the Marriott in TJ
Is it indoors or outdoors? Anyone know what the weather is like there towards the end of this month? I was planning on bringing a bathing suit and spending some time in the pool the night before surgery. Is that realistic at this time of year? (In 13 days)

Best surgeon in Mexico for a reasonable price? Ignore my previous post, i hit post too early
Love hearing all the positives about these Mexico Bariatrics experiences! I feel sorry for people who will forgoe having this surgery in Mexico because of pre conceived notions based on fear or being closed minded. THE MIND, IS LIKE A PARACHUTE.... IT ONLY FUNCTIONS WHEN IT'S OPEN! 13 days Til I drive to Mexico and change my life forever! Woo hoo!

Re: CLEAR LIQUID DIET (pre-op)
3 days before surgery, I'm supposed to ONLY have clear liquids. My surgery will be in Mexico and there aren't alot of details on this portion of the diet. I figured I do two ISOPURE or NEW WEIGH, which will give me 80 grams of protein and around 320 cals. But what would I drink to get the rest of calories without loading up on sugar, like fruit juice? Any ideas? Did you all have a similar diet plan? Any suggestions are greatly apreciated :-)

Anybody GAIN weight b4 surgery?
Sounds like self sabbotage based on fear of the unknown. I haven't GAINED pre op, but I've only lost 11 lbs in 90 days since I was approved. Since I'm self pay/ Mexico, it's not mandatory that I lose weight pre op. so I've not been 100% dieting 100% of the time. It's all in the mind... U have to gain control if u really want this. Today started my 14 day pre op diet and I will absolutely not be cheating at all what so ever. It's game on now. We've waited all our lives to be free from this unwanted, unhealthy body fat... Lets do this for ourselves! We deserve it!!! Good luck!

Can protein drinks be made ahead for the day?
They can become a very strange consistency if mixed too far in advance. I just pre measure a cup of milk In a jar or shaker and pack a Baggie with a scoop of protein powder, so I can mix when ready to consume it.

Best surgeon in Mexico for a reasonable price? Ignore my previous post, i hit post too early
I will have my surgery in two weeks on November 1st through Mexico Bariatric Center ( my coordinator is Christy, love her! She lives here in California and is awesome). My surgeon is Dr. louisianna Valenzuela @ Mi Doctor Hospital Staying at the Marriott Hotel. Total price: $4500 Plus $200 extra because my husband will be staying at the Marrioit while I'm at the hospital. The driver meets us at the border, takes us to Marriott first night. Surgery in the morning, 2 nights at Hospital (which, unlike Jerusalim hospital/ strip mall is a dedicated Bariatrics full service Hospital) then I stay at the hotel for another two nights. Driver takes us through the fast track/ medical lane back to border. Included in price is driver, hotel, hospital, surgery, broth, water juice etc, all pre and post op testing, labs, meds, antibiotics. Shuttle for my husband back and forth from hospital to hotel. Super excited! Starting my 14 day pre op diet tomorrow. Let me know if you want contact info for Christy/ Mexico Bariatric Center. Good luck in your quest.

Can't you bring a medical directive stating that she would be recognized as your power of atty if you were to become unable to verbalized your wishes?

November sleeve buddies going to TJ ?!
Bob Barnett, I totally agree that the surgery will pay for itself! Great way of putting it!

Day 2
Awesome will power! I have to attend a fancy dinner engagement midway thru my pre op diet too. What a test, right?! Keep up the discipline!

post operative surgery meal
I'm hoping to not eat bread, pasta or rice. I figure that's what got me to this point and size. Lots of other delicious things to eat that are far more nutritious. But I have seen many people post that they eat that post op at some point and time. Personal choice.

Last Supper
I can totally relate. Food is such a huge part of the way we love each other in Italian Culture. Especially with our elders. It's a well known fact that u don't want to decline the offer of food from an Italian Nonna! So enjoy the family meal and explain that in the future it's going to be a much smaller portion for you. I can just hear my Nonna now... Mangia! Mangia! What's a matter for you, you gotta mangia! Ciao... Best wishes!

Pre op diet?
Kayla, your diet is identical to mine. Are you being sleeved in Mexico? Who's your doc? I want to know... What exactly we can have in the salad? Is it just green veggies?

Is anyone able to eat chicken & grapes post op?
I can't stand dry chicken (even being pre op) so I tend to make a high protein sauce of puréed garbonzos with garlic, lemon, peanut butter and water blended to the consistency you like. Heated up poured over the chicken... Makes it so soft and moist. This can also be done with yogurt and dill over fish etc. and crock pot chicken is super tender as well. I'd just be careful with grilled chicken as it can get dry.
