  1. Do all doctors require you to stop BC prior to the surgery? I'm havering the sleeve Feb. 4th and haven't done my preppy appointment yet. I had lapband (I'm having it removed) 2 years ago and didn't have to stop for that. Just wondering.... I have horrible issues if I'm not on BC. Nonstop bleeding for weeks and once it lasted almost 2 months. Not fun!

  2. <p>I am still waiting on a surgery date...I have 14# to lose before my info is submitted to insurance.....BUT...My doctor told me that BCP's weren't as effective after surgery, so I am off of the pill and got an IUD. Painless insertion, and works great! Plus, I don't have to worry about remembering a pill!!! :)</p>

Why are they not as effective? My surgeon said after surgery we are SUPER fertile due to hormone changes and weight loss. All birth control has the same effectiveness of 99.9% if taken correctly. So to me, it's personal preference.

  3. I commend all of you who can openly talk about it . My husband and best friend who has had WLS are the only ones who know. My mom thinks I'm having my gall bladder removed. I am not ashamed but also don't want to deal with *haters*. People always have an opinion and think it's just as easy as diet and exercise. They don't understand I am sick and tired of being sick and tired...and I have NEVER been thin. I was born 9 pounds...weighed 300lbs in 8th grade and it only got worse after kids. One day, I hope to openly tell everyone...but if not...then That will be okay too.

  4. It passed goal today! Started out at 260, goal wait was 160. Last week I was 163, today … drum roll please … 159.6!!!! Holy smokies!!! I can't believe it. This is my lowest weight since middle school, I've got kids in middle school now. I never dreamed I would weigh this ever. I am so thankful for my sleeve. Definitely not an easy journey but worth the effort.

That's fantastic! Congrats! How long did it take ?

I agree with ^^^ pictures please!!!!

  5. Nursekimberly: I'm gonna get the Kotex u today and try them. What kind of an applicator do these have? Plastic or cardboard and do you just push it up like the other ones? I really want to use tampons as I am so sick of pads but I tried again this morning and I can't do it! I can't push the applicator up cuz of my weight. It's so frusterating! Thanks so much!

PLASTIC!!!! The cardboard applicators stick to damp skin...feels like ripping off a bandaid IN your vagina!

  6. Took BCP for many many years before surgery. My surgeon required I stop them 2 weeks pre-op. After surgery I decided to stay off them in fear of gaining weight once starting again. I'm 9 weeks out & am still off them. My OB/GYN told me it was totally up to me if I wanted to get back on them. My main question is to any ladies who were on them & continued them post op...did u notice it hindered your weight loss or helped? I kinda miss the regularity of periods & no cramps but I don't want to stall (again!) thanks!!!!

I am told to stop taking BC two weeks before and 6-8 weeks after due to it increasing the risk of developing clots. My surgeon automatically gives heparin while in the hospital to decrease the chances. I have been on BC for many years to regulate and it is always given a bad rap about weight gain- if you read the fine print it says weight gain OR loss....AND is minimal, less than 5 pounds. So I wouldn't worry about it affecting your weight loss.

My concern isn't it affecting my weight loss but more so my weight loss affecting my periods. Rapid weight gain or loss can drastically change menstrations....so to me.... The benefits outweigh the risks. So I will continue taking my BC when cleared to do so.

  8. Pre-admission testing went well today. All set for January 8th! I'm just hoping cold/sinus infection is completely gone. Can't imagine coughing after surgery. I was worried that the surgeon and anesthesiologist would want to postpone .

Do NOT use a Neti pot for a sinus infection. It says on the package to NOT use it if you suspect one.

  9. <p>Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place.</p> <p> </p> <p>I am lost at sea without oars. I am a binge eater or food addict. I was desperate and five years ago I got the sleeve. At first it helped and the binge eating stopped but as time went on I changed my food addiction and binges into graze binges on smaller amounts. Slowly the weight came back and I stopped following any rules. I even went back and tried conventional weight loss diets like Jenny Craig and Lite and easy. I kept mini bingeing for days then back on diets just like the old days but the binges are smaller. I drink Pepsi max everyday and am addicted to sugar. It's almost like I never had the sleeve done at all and I am so disgusted and ashamed with myself. My head followed me after the surgery and I am scared I have completely blown it. I have started the 5 day pouch test (on New years Day how cliché) and have all my food ready for this but I am actually struggling to remember what it is I am meant to be eating as a post op sleever years out?</p> <p> </p> <p>I have a couple of questions.</p> <p> </p> <p>What are the general guidelines for sleevers regarding food types, frequency and amounts and liquid dos and don't s. Things to avoid? ( I can eat almost a normal meal now) :( What's a normal sleevers meal?</p> <p> </p> <p>Is there a support group on here for compulsive over eaters, binge eaters or food addicts? </p> <p> </p> <p>Thanks and Happy New Year.</p> <p> </p> <p>Too Cheeky (still)</p>

Great job, looking for support! You can do this!!! My surgeon said no carbonated beverages- EVER- as it will stretch out your pouch.

Binge eating is a psychological condition such as bulimia or anorexia. I would recommend talking to a therapist to figure out the 'why', you binge eat. If you don't find the root of the problem you risk always falling off the wagon. Good luck!!!

  10. i had my sleeve in mexico7-24-12 home and 10 days later or so severe complications (7 weeks in the hospital and still wit a j tube (feeding tube). i have kaiser - live 30 minutes north of the golden gate bridge...KAISER WAS EXCELLENT! MULTIPLE ambulance transports, surgeries, home health care - i paid zero! i am sure laws differ state to state, but if you are an emergent patient, it is illegal to deny care. good luck with your decision. even with problem, i am standing here smiling happy with my choices!!! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

If you had kaiser why did you self pay and not go through insurance for your WLS?
