The best advice i can give is to space out your protein even throughout the day... Every 3 hours, it really helps curb hunger.

Less than 4 hours.

Survival skills for the 14 day pre-op diet
ElginChris replied to Italiancurves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started my liquid diet as well and I did a couple of things that I think will help. 1 - stop caffeine use a few weeks before.. Why? If you drink a lot of coffee, soda, etc. the withdrawal can be pretty harsh. Its hard enough to not eat let alone face withdrawal symptoms. 2 - start drink a shake or 2 a day in advance. It gives you time to adjust to the consistency and flavor of the shakes. Are they too thick? Too thin? Do you need to add sweetener or no? Try some different recipes. Make shake combinations you can enjoy a bit. I have 5 or 6 i like, so i can have variety at least. Again, this process is hard enough, why wouldnt you make it easier. Hope this helps -

If you want to start something early try 3 shakes during the day (breakfast , lunch , snack) then a low carb dinner (about 400 cals) that will keep you under 1 k and should help you lose weight .. -

I am furious with my surgeon at the moment... This is NOT my fault!
ElginChris replied to Daydra's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry sent it before i was done. Since you have this wonderful opportunity to restart, why are you basing your diet/nutrition on your old philosophies that really only assisted you enough to maintain a weight that you felt the need to have WLS? Work the program, lose some weight, get healthier. You will have plenty of time to figure out your diet as you go, This isnt meant to be a flame... I just think you are wasting a great opportunity to improve your health... -

I read your post and kind if wonder why you arent just working your program and getting healthy !! Your body just went through major surgery, it takes time to heal, time to stabilize and you are basically ignoring the advice of a professional whom you chose, who hopefully has a proven track record of success, and has a lot more experience at this process than you? You have been given a chance to restart your life again, at least in terms of nutrition and possibly body weight. -

Why do pre and post-op diets differ so much?
ElginChris replied to MindiJean's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mindi, You will find there are a lot of different pre and post op plans out there. I dont think any of them are more "wrong" or "right" than any other but the plan you get from your surgeon or Nut are what they feel is best and I would stick with it. I figure they are more experienced and have some historical data to back it up. Plus I want my surgery to be the safest and most successful possible.. -

Been watching The Doctor for over 30 years now and I have really enjoyed 11. 10 was good as well but I like Moffat's story arcs better than RTD's. 4 is by far my favorite, he was my "first" Doctor. My wife bought me a hand knit replica scarf a few years ago and even did my office door like the TARDIS !!! She is awesome!!! Try and watch some of the classic Whos... they are campy and have bad FX but they stories are good. I think they ate on Netflix still!?!?!? -

My name is Chris.. I am 6'4" and weigh 490 -
Got some good news yesterday, I was approved by my insurance for the surgery!!! I was excited but something also hit home... this is going to happen and happen soon(ish). My surgery date won't be set till I get cleared by pulmonary, that appointment is this week, I am shooting for November 1st. For those wondering I have BCBS Illinois. It was submitted 9/17 and approved 9/23. There was no 6 month diet required. But my understanding is my plan supported surgery for BMI's over 40 or 35-40 with 2 or more co-morbidities.

Lucky, Part of the surgeons process is to make sure #1- that you are physically ready for the surgery and #2 - you are mentally ready as well . There are also insurance requirements that have to be met. Every surgeon or practice has different procedures as well, especially in terms pre surgery diet, order of tests, etc. My process has been simple, i could have been 8 weeks Seminar to Surgery but it will be closer to 10. Very quick compared to some of the folks here. I think the main thing is to ask a lot of questions, get specific answers regarding timelines and what yours and the surgeons and insurance companies responsibilities are and go from their. If you dont like the wait or if you feel like you arent getting enough of response, see if there is another surgeon in your area that can do it for you!!!

What are you doing to prepare for your surgery?
ElginChris replied to McButterpants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Butter, I think the biggest issue with the liquid diet is the caffeine withdrawal. When i read about everyones headaches, etc. I knew what was causing it. Its why i decided to get that part out of the way first!! The rest of what I am doing is to lose a little weight and to get my body ( and mind!!) adjusted to a different style of eating... trying to break bad habits and create new ones before surgery. My thought process is to make the transition to my new life easier on my body, mind and spirit. I never realized how much food ran my life. Everything has been about food. What and when am i going to eat. Where can I get that? How can I make that? I i know i am an emotional eater but I am a habitual eater as well. Its these habits I am trying to break ( or at least start to break) before surgery!! -

What are you doing to prepare for your surgery?
ElginChris replied to McButterpants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am out 5 weeks so i am stepping down things, diet wise, a week at a time. Stopped caffeine 2 weeks ago. Started sipping my liquids in stead of gulping. This week. The next 2 or 3 weeks, depending on final surgery date, reducing calorie intake. I have started walking more, trying to get a little fitter before surgery and trying hard to follow post op eating habits. I have also been really trying to recognize and counter my head hunger and my habitual eating. Those 2 are the toughest for me by far, but I will succeed and over come those. It will take me some time to over come 30+ years of horrible eating habits but I look forward to changing them forever!!!
