    Ulcers?

For me, pain in that same general area corresponds to acid reflux. I use prilosec, and find it helps me a lot. I actually don't know if this surgery increases or decreases the risk of ulcers. I was kind of surprised that my stomach didn't have any after they pulled it out.

    Comparison picture

Nice, you're doing great and looking great!!! Keep up the good work and I'm sure you'll accomplish your goals (and also add years to your life expectancy.)
  4. Why, do you think they'd be delicious? LOL...
  5. And I'm the one with the dirty mind? Humbug. While I'm sure you'll find recipes for anything on the internet, something tells me this isn't something you can just go check out at the library, or even Amazon. I mean, I'm sure the internet has recipes for cannibals, but that doesn't mean someone has actually published "The Joy of Cooking your Neighbors."
  6. I found the hunger to return quickly, but not as severe as it used to be (back when I'd order a large pizza PLUS bread-sticks PLUS wings whenever I was "hungry.") At 7.5 weeks, I still get hungry, but a small portion of food will make me very satisfied for a long time. When I get hungry again, I eat again. Hope that helps.

    Post op excess skin.

Jared the subway guy lost more than a VSG patient and faster and has no excess skin issues. A lot of it has to do with age.
  8. I think it depends on how much emotionally invested you think you're going to be in the number on the scale. I'm honestly more concerned about my body composition than my weight...I hope to lose fat, but would love to at least maintain or build muscle as I continue to get in shape. I've found that the scale can vary dramatically through the course of the day based on fluids, so I try not to put too much credit into the issue of the scale.

    Feeling good

Yeah, the move to pureed foods was really nice for me too. Started feeling much more satisfied. Just wait till you get to real foods

    Sex..

If it's your incisions call the doc. Otherwise it might be hormonal but still probably wouldn't hurt to make sure everything is ok...

    Trouble going #2

I'm at 7 weeks post-op and have the same issue. After getting the food I'm supposed to get, it's hard to find room for all that fiber that I'd like to have. So things can get difficult if I don't try to stay hydrated and get at least a little fiber. I'm not gonna lie, it's tricky and apparently not uncommon....
  12. Do not worry! I was closer to 10lbs heavier at the same point in the process...so I completely understand...The doctors told me it was because they give you a ton of i.v. Fluid to prevent dehydration since you can't eat or drink much at all in the beginning. But all is well...in time, I'm sure you'll see the weight start to come off, and possibly faster than at any other point in your life. Make sure you are walking as much as you can and follow all your doc's post-op instructions to the best of your ability and I'm sure you'll be fine.
  13. So I've noticed that sometimes it feels like there's pins and needles in my hands and throughout my skin...almost like there's bugs crawling in there. Obviously it's not a full-blown hallucination or anything like that...I know it's just a strange feeling. Thus far, it doesn't seem to correlate to blood glucose...my blood sugar is very consistently right around 100mg/dl (exactly where it is healthy) Additionally, it sometimes happens when I've eaten, and sometimes not...doesn't seem to matter. Time of day doesn't seem to matter. It just comes and goes. The only thing it seems to be consistently correlated with is byproducts of ketogenesis in my urine. I buy those "keto-sticks" and whenever I feel the "pin-prick" feeling, I also notice those sticks turn dark purple quickly. I know that means my body is in a ketogenic state, and that's not inherently bad...it's burning fat for fuel. But I have this lingering feeling that it might be a sign of something wrong....Does anyone else ever get the "skin bugs" and what did you do about it?
  14. Thank you for this support. I'll keep talking with my doctors to make sure I stay on the right path.
  15. I would cook a few scrambled eggs and then pick out some lowfat cheese and spice it up with greek seasoning. Pureed, I thought it was delicious!!
  16. A good friend of mine is doing well recovering from some substance abuse issues, but I'm not sure at what point i should tell him he's ready for VSG....what do you guys think? He has a "sponsor" and seems to be working the 12-step program well, but I'd hate to see anything bad happen to him...
  17. I know I shouldn't be thinking like this, but I just can't shake it tonight. I understand that as a society we're not supposed to judge people by their size, and I don't think I ever did. Many of the women I've dated were larger, and I loved them and thought they were absolutely beautiful and sexy exactly the way they were. Unfortunately, if a woman is content with her size/shape, she's considered "empowered." If she wants her guy to quit being fat and get in shape, nobody seems to think twice. So I've had a string of 3 women, all who were over 300lbs, and all whom I loved and found extremely attractive, and they all left me for super-skinny guys. We're talking guys where you can see their ribcage. Three women in a row. And I wouldn't have even mentioned their size other than it felt slightly hypocritical that they wanted me to accept them for who they were as larger people, but could never accept me for who I was as a larger guy.... So here I am again....3 serious relationships, and they all ran off with Mr. Skinny guy.... I know if I keep this up, I'll be skinny like those guys they left me for....but still it's frustrating to be on the receiving end of that.
  18. I dunno....when I ever I use one it turns dark purple almost immediately at 6.5 weeks out. If you're going through ketogenisis, you'll have certain products as a byproduct. I'm sure you understand this as a scientist. Nothing changes over time in terms of the byproducts released in urine...and you can certainly tell in your breath too. In fact, they are now encouraging alzheimer's patients to maintain a ketogenic diet because it seems to help delay the progression of the disease....so it might be good for your brain too!
  19. I've never been able to tell the difference, but wanted to be able to. What does head hunger feel like vs. "real hunger." I'm not sure if I experience both or if I mistakenly perceive it all as real hunger when it's not.

    Am I a failure?

Listen to Ms. Yvette on this one. You are NOT a failure, and making a change for a healthier lifestyle is always something to be proud of!

  25. Yep. It's gotta be your call...only you can decide how important the issue is.
