  1. I was dumb and arrogant before the surgery. I had the thought that 'food isn't really that important to me, I just consume mass quantities of it at a sitting'. It wasn't until after surgery and the head hunger began that I came to fully realize how completely wrong I was. I was addicted and in denial about it. Heh, I really thought that with reduced capacity I wouldn't miss food that much :D

I'll be a month out tomorrow, and while the head hunger hasn't completely gone away, it's quieted way down. I'm hoping that with more time it will just blend into the background.

  2. I've found that most nutritionists are bonkers :D Well that's not true.. I just think they don't have a lot in the way of real guidelines. I think they're all taught something different, and they take what they've learned and rarely iterate on it.

I'm 6'3, but I was still told to only take in 400-600 calories per day for 6 months, with little to no carbs. It's the same thing they tell everyone, but NOBODY is the same! Hell, I can't survive on 600 calories, let alone 400! I was also told, with a straight face, to only take in that many calories and NO SNACKING W - T - F?! To me that just sounds like a recipe for failure.. there's a reason I got surgery, I've already proven that when I restrict myself too much I go nanners!

I will tell you though, what helped my 'movements' was adding some fat back into my diet. I get almost no Fiber, but with some fat everything is.. um.. smooth sailing?

  3. I had that issue as well. it wasn't acid (on prilosec), and wasn't head hunger (actual hunger cramps), but for the life of me nobody would believe me. You can't be hungry they said. Sorry, bitterness crept in there.

Anyway, it gets better as soon as you get to the puréed stage. You may still be a little hungry, but not nearly as bad. Once you get to solids you'll finally get satiated.

Unfortunately though, I had to just grin and bear it until that stage. It may be different for you though, it could be acid or something. We're all different after all. But, I believe you.

  4. I tell anyone that will listen. I mean I don't start conversations with strangers about it, but I'm not shy about it. I've been shrugging off judge-y people my whole life, so they don't bother me. However, there's a TON of big'uns out there, and a lot of them are really curious about their options

  5. Welcome Kate!

I had that issue too, the one where everyone around had a hard stance against wls. I really only tried hardcore diets once, so they kept telling me that I should keep at it. Thing was, they're all overweight as well. It was mean, but I was forced to ask them how well that was working for them.

Also, if you research the stats, the odds are against us losing long term.

If I have any advise, its that we're all different. Our reactions to the surgery is different, our surgeons plan are different, our weight loss is different. There are some commonalities, but don't be surprised if something in your journey doesn't match up to everyone else :)

  6. Concerning the cravings, it gets better. I had bad head hunger for about a week and a half. It was like someone was standing over my shoulder screaming CHEESEBURGER! Now its more like I get text messages letting me know that cheeseburgers are a thing and they're pretty good. So I still get cravings, but its waaay more manageable now.
