    got my paperwork sent in.

Ugh - my biggest fear is that my insurance coordinator doesn't submit everything the first time. I've already been having "issues" with them. here is a thought... you are an INSURANCE COORDINATOR... why don't you at least do the job you were hired for correctly??? Good luck to you!!!

    Yes

Do you mind sharing who your insurance is through, how long it took to submit, any obstacles...

    Smoking, Pre-Opp

I had to quit smoking as well, but I have heard that it slows down your recovery and weight loss process.

Ugh - I don't have 30 days to mess around with CIGNA when I submit. My insurance is most likely changing because our company is being re-organized, so they need to make this decision quick. Not to mention, the waiting up until this point has been sooooo hard as it is!

    Starting process... Switching insurance

I really think it has to do with the package your employer chose with CIGNA, and possibly the area you live in. My CIGNA is great and although I'm nervous about the approval part, everything up until now has been easy. Good luck to you!

Mine is being submitted around Oct 16th. I'm hoping they go ahead and schedule my surgery without the approval so I can get started with the pre-op but who knows!

Why do you consider CiGNA "the worst"?
  13. I was told to give up caffeine before surgery, and that I could introduce it back into my diet about a month post-op. I was told to absolutely give up soda/carbonation for good. I did that, a little slow to give up on the caffeine though. I figure, I quit smoking and gave up soda, one thing at a time here lol....

    Good luck:)
  16. Great thread! I recently made a list like this on my blog and its amazing how many items on my list have been already shared by all of you. - Being the biggest out of all my friends - being anxious at amusement parks about not fitting in the seat, which ironically I am on my way to an amusement park right now:( - never taking my kids to the pool or beach because of my own insecurities - not being able to buy the clothes I want because they don't have my size - and being looked at weird by sales associates when I walk into a "normal sizes" store - not wanting to take off my shirt during sexy time with husband because I don't want to gross him out

    Sleep study

Not sure what insurance you have, but I was told that CIGNA outsources for sleep studies to another insurance company to handle clinical reviews and approvals. So my request gets sent to CIGNA , they send it to someone else, that other company handles their own cases first and then looks at CIGNA cases, and then sends back the answer. It's flipping ridiculous, but I was assured that they don't handle surgery approvals that way. I hope not!!

    Sleep study

I was under 40 BMI and needed sleep apnea to be approved. I didn't think there was a chance I had sleep apnea- I wake up a lot at night and I am always tired, but I feel like I've always been like that, even when I was little. I don't snore either. Had my sleep study and sure enough I have sleep apnea It's so sad that I basically had to pray I had something wrong with me in order to qualify. Insurance basically says "oh you are heavy, but not heavy enough. So either gain weight to be even heavier OR we will wait until something bad happens and you develop a life threatening issue before we help you." You would think they would help those of us who are seeking help BEFORE those things happen to us.

You look amazeballs:) Congratulations!!! Inspiring people like you get me SO pumped to have this surgery!

How long did your insurance take to approve ?!

I have CIGNA, and even though I haven't been approved yet, I know they cover the surgery. It depends on the package/exclusions that your employer chose.

    "Consecutive" Question

I think I will benefit a lot more from those meetings AFTER the surgery. Right now I am "maintaining" because if I lose weight I will go under the 35 BMI. I've learned more from these forums and my support group meetings than the nutritional meetings. But again, I know I will lean on them heavily later down the road.

    "Consecutive" Question

My insurance requires 3 consecutive months (<90 days) of nutritional evaluations, so here is my question. My first appt was 8/15, my next isn't scheduled until 9/27 and the next is 10/25. Clearly, the months are consecutive - August, Sept, October, but the difference between my first and second month is over 30 days. The time between my first visit and last is under 90 days, but i'm concerned about the timeframe between my first and second. I've asked my surgeon's office and insurance coordinator, who said it is fine, but I can't help but be concerned that insurance is going to decline because of it. Anyone know what they really mean when they say consecutive?
