I just had a BRILLIANT idea! (I know, no shocker there!)
That Bozo theme song is running amock through my brain. Eyerolls from Chicagoland.

Help please!
Posts like this will always get a polarized response. The best I can suggest is to follow your plan and don't get so independant. The stages are established through observations on tens of thousands of bariatric patients and what actions cause horrid complications that could have been avoided. Eating food too soon is one of them. Your tummy has been brutalized. Your brain did not get the memo. That is common. Head hunger is a crazy-maker. Please take care of yourself.

Weight loss
I gained 12 pounds in the hospital from all of those fluids they gave me. By the time I lost that, I hit the third week stall that is so common among us. During the third week stall I started soft foods, so it wasn't until the fourth week that I started dropping pounds. Don't get discouraged.

The end of a relationship
In 2005, I walked away from a ten year second marriage because his mental health issues were becoming worse and he refused to take medication to ease and control his symptoms. I made a strong effort to pray and stay, but when he began to mistake me for a punching bag, I had to go. I escaped to a womens shelter in the middle of the night and never looked back. After leaving that relationship, I was confused for a while. With my first marriage of 23 years I had to leave because he became a serial cheater. My first marriage was when I was 19. I had been Daddy's good girl for 19 years, Green Meanie's good wife for 23 years , and mean ol' rotten A**hole's domestic slave for ten years. After I freed myself, I had no idea what food I liked to eat, what clothes I liked to wear, or even what music I liked. All my life was spent doing what the men in my life wanted me to do and be. It took a while to figure out who I was, when no one was there to influence my decisions. Leaving was not as tough as I thought it would be. I have enjoyed being a strong and independant woman. I even went back to college at the age of 54 and completed my bacheor's degree in Business Management. In 2006 I met a lovely genetlamen whom I am still with. He is kind a sweet and even nursed me through some serious surgeries and a stroke. He treats me like the queen of his universe. If I had been too timid or a afraid to leave those two other idiots, my life would still be a living hell. What I am trying to say is that leaving a bad relationship where you are neither loved nor respected is not a bad thing. A one-sided relationship does not nurture our spiritual essence that lives inside our human containers. Men and women both deserve to have loving companshionship. I say that if your closest relationship is a hot mess, then do what the original poster and I have done. Walk away and don't look back.

Pre-Op Diet ?
I had a ten day pre-op liquid diet consisting of five 12 ounce Protein shakes and all of the non-caloric fluids I could stand. I am not a coffee drinker, but there was no restriction pre or post op in my written instructions. I drink tea all day long, but it has to be decaf. The first three days were the hardest, then I sailed though the rest knowing that the inconvenience was just temporary.

Newbie - How do I choose?
I chose the sleeve because I did not want to re-route my digestive system for a bypass and did not want a port with the lap band. I am quite pleased with my sleeve. I take a PPI (Omemprozole) every day and have had no recurring issue with GERD. For newbies who are concerned about their first surgery with anesthesia, just think of it as a nice little nap, and when you wake up you will have a new lease on life. Usually, when a nurse gets ready to put the needle in my arm, inevitably they will say something like, "You are going to feel a little prick." Many times, my response has been, "My ex-husband was a little prick.!"

Soft/Pureed Recipes for strict doctor
When I pureed my beans, I used refried beans and added a little bit of sour cream and melted shredded cheddar. I saved the salsa for abour six weeks out.

Incision site infection
A couple of years ago I self-diagnosed back pain as a pulled muscle from exercise, but Ben-gay was just makeing worse and worse and felt like a fire on my back. So, I caved in and went to my doctor. I am so glad I did. What I had was shingles, which is like grown up chicken pox in the worst way. My suggestion to you is go see your doctor or a clinic. Then enjoy your trip without worrying and wondering "what if?"

This is the beginning of a new me....
It would have been nice to have Jenwiths plan, but I had to do 10 day liquid diet. The first three days are the worst as your tummy and taste buds have to get over feeling neglected. The head hunger is like having hamspsters in your head, just running around and around being obnoxious little crazy-makers. The other seven days weren't so bad. Just stay busy and avoid the food Network and other cooking shows for a while. The commercials are enough to overlook without watching food porn.

Why
Go to Youtube and watch an actual surgery of the type you are having. Not a two minute video, but a 20-30 minute video where you are observing an actual procedure. That will remind you of how brutalized you stomach will be. It simply needs time to heal from being manipulated, cut up, sore and swollen. I had a new granddaughter born on Monday. There is no way we would try to feed her a chili cheese slaw dog. It that same manner, your new tummy is not able to process food until it starts healing and the swelling goes down. I hope your team explains this to you - it is so important to respect that new tummy.

Is it CHEATING or is it a CHOICE?
I agree 100%. Lipstick Lady, thanks for this post.

WLS Eats
For me personally, carbs are the devil If I go over 40 carbs, it slows my roll. I eat mostly paleo/primal. That means basically that I avoid the inside rows in the grocery store except for spices or paper products. I strive to not eat anything made in a factory. I wag my head and my heart sinks every time someone posts that are disregarding their doctor's plan and just doing what they want, and eating stage four regular foods as soon as they get home from the hospital. If you follow the stages of re-intoducing foods to your new tummy and are gentle with it, you will be rewarded with the weight loss you are seeking with little or no complications. I wish you good luck and good health.

Nervous
Congratulations! You have made a decision that will greatly improve your quality of life in many ways. Although the pre-op diet is inconvenient and uncomfortable, it is a right of passage. The new you is on the other side. We call it "the losers bench." I encourage you to follow the plan that your bariatric team presents to you. It's hard, and sometimes we slip, but you will find encouragement here. Since you have been lurking around, you probably already know that opinions and tact will vary. I wish you good luck and good health.

Okay I need some reassurance
Long stalls are like lovers. Your first will probably not be your last. I am in a loooooong one now that has lasted for months. I am following my plan and still measuring and longing and weighing, but nevertheless, stalls happen. I have my bad days, too. This week, my sciatica which was in remission because of radiofrequency ablation, is back. I caved in to the pain last night and had some pound cake, but I am not beating myself up about it.

Vitamins (and other pills)!
I take all of those, plus I am required to take D3 (2,000 units) once a day. I get it at Walgreen's.

Why We Are Hungry
Yeah, I'd like to know, too. I thought my sciatica was caused a ruptured disc that is putting pressure on the sciatic nerve which goes down through my leg. That emotional suggestion sounds bogus to me. Please tell us where that info came from. I am going to a pain clinic, not a psychologist.

Didnt measure, messed up. :-(
A cup of food is nowhere near the volume I used to eat. If I went to a buffet, I could heap my plate twice, have dessert, plus drink two or three glasses of soda. I had to go back to measuring and logging, too. My dad was a scientist, and he was right when he said, "You cannot control that which you do not measure."

No Pre-Op Diet?
Isn't the pre-op diet regime based on the condition and position of the liver? That's what I thought. Hmmmmmm.

Worried
I am sorry to hear about how your sister is struggling. I agree with the others that a gentle and supportive approach is best. My "something bad" that motivated me to finally get sleeved was a stroke.
