    getting divorced

For all the trauma that comes with abuse and separation and divorce, the end prize is Peace of Mind. When I left my mean ol' rotten ex 9 1/2 years ago, I spent the first night in a women's shelter. Since I had squirreled away my lunch money for months and bled the bank account (I did leave him $100 for groceries), I had some funds to find other shelter after that. I needed to stay around a couple of weeks while the shelter people got me through the restraining order process and divorce filing.....also, the county paid for my divorce since the reason was domestic violence. What I did was go to the next county over, to a little Ma and Pa motel and rented a room for a couple of weeks. On a scale of 1-10 for comfort and amenities, it was clear 1.5. I will give it some credit for being hidden in some woods behind an apartment complex where my car was hidden from sight. Anyway, my point is that the teensty little room with lousy furniture and no kitchenette was like heaven to me. I was safe and had peace of mind for the first time in ten years. I knew from that point that I would be alright and able to move forward. Your parents are doing what my sister in another state did for me. She took me in and supported me while I found a job and earned enough money to break out on my own. Hang in there girl. Sometimes the hardest decisions are the most rewarding decisions.
  2. Hopefully, I have the math correct on this thought. A large egg provides around 7 grams of Protein. If I ate 14 ounces of protein per day, and there are 7 grams of protein per ounce, then that equals 97 grams of protein, which is beyond the limit you mentioned anyway. Many of us are given a goal of a minimum of 60 grams of protein per day. Something else that helps us from maxing out our kidneys with protein is that we drink Water all day long. I started out at 64 ounces (8 cups) of water per day. At two + years out I average around 124 ounces (1 gallon) of water per day. Water keeps your kidneys flushed out.
  3. I agree with the others. Don't let them give you a guilt trip either. If you had a stroke, or a car wreck that put you in traction in a rehab facility for months, the work would still get done some how.

Do I Get Voted Off the Forums if.....

'Twon't bother me none. If we are going to get into semantics, I suppose you could call it "the non-surgical way" Aside from the actual surgery, there are many things most of us do that would be helpful for anyone wanting to lose weight and improve their health. Drink Water until your eyeballs float. Eat lean Protein first, and lots of it. Don't eat anything made in a factory. Don't become part of the sofa. Congratulations on getting some good results so far. Your quality of life will improve in many ways that will surprise you.

    Question for vets about sleep

Pre-op, it would take me 12 hours to get 8 hours of sleep. Once I lost that first 30 pounds, I started to sleep better and had fewer hot flashes. One other advantage was that my bed felt bigger. Let's say you want to lose 150 pounds. That is like wearing a newborn calf for a belt, a bale of hay for a hat, and two gallons of milk for shoes. No wonder you are exhausted at night.

    Trying not to be angry

One thing that you will find out about bariatric surgery, is that it not only facilitates losing weight - it will make you stronger emotionally. Your relationships will morph as you become someone that your people don't know. Give your Mom a steak knife and ask her to stab you in the back. Hopefully she won't, but maybe she could make the connection that her words cause damage and hurt just as much. Hugs from Chicago.

    Boss

Well, it sounds like it was not those whom you told that blabbed your business around, but some Nosey Nancy. Yes, go to HR and ask them to clarify whether or not you have to tell your boss about your medical procedures. (You really don't have to tell anyone) Let them know. If you like your boss then that will save her from future action from the U.S. Department of Labor. If you don't like your boss, then it will be instant Karma from HR. If you ae in any kind of Union environment, you can file a grievance.

    Taking meds day of surgery

I was allowed to take my anti-depressant and blood pressure meds with just enough water to get them down.
  12. It happens all the time. http://www.thehotline.org/ This website has all kinds of resources that will be helpful. A book that helped me get my head on straight is The Verbally Abusive Relationship by Patrician Evans
  13. Ask them what they know about bariatric surgery. I bet it won't be much. I would also guess that they know someone whose sister knows someone whose neighbor's cousin had a sister-in-law whose stepmother had bariatric surgery with complications. Challenge them to call you doctor and tell him they disagree with his diagnosis. That will shut them up! Hey Rogoflum....preach it, brother!!!
  14. A pharmacist clued me in to Cold-Eeze. He said take that or zinc supplements. It worked and cut that cold short by several days.
  15. I was 10 years post-menopause when I had my surgery two years ago. About the time I lost the first thirty pounds, I began feeling cold rather than hot. The only time I get hot flashes now is if I take an oxycodone for a painful orthopedic condition. There is no more taking clothes off and putting them back on again in a never-ending ritual.

I feel top young for this

In my basement is a 20 pound kettle bell that I cannot even lift off the floor. I can't even imagine that I could carry several of those attached to my body now. No wonder I was exhausted all the time. If you have around 150 pounds to lose, that is like wearing a two-month old colt and a bale of hay for a belt. As you lose the weight, the difference becomes discernable very quickly. You will be soooooo glad you did this, and you will have a better quality of life for it. Here is my favorite thread on this forum. It now has 1,281 reasons why the rest of us decided to take the plunge and get bariatric surgery. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/219831-what-was-your-final-straw-that-broke-the-camels-back/?hl=%20final%20%20straw

    Pre-Op Weight Loss

I lost 22 pounds in the three months pre-op. Having that time to get acquainted and proficient with the new behaviors I would need post-op really helped with the adjustment. By the time I had my surgery, I already knew what to do - and it was habit rather than effort. There were a lot of new rules for me, but here are the basuic concepts that got me through: Drink Water until your eyeballs float. Eat lots of lean Protein, and eat it first before veggies and fruit. Do not eat anything made in a factory. Don't become part of the sofa. That covers a lot of territory. I wish you good luck and good health.

    Vitamin Help Please :)

My Bariatric Advantage AE tasted like vomit and saurkraut. I wasted a lot of money on them. Now I take a generic multi with extra B Vitamins from Walgreens.

    Damage to sleeve

Hopefully she meant yogurt without bits in it. Since it caused you discomfort, you could dilute it with milk and strain it.

Welcome to the forum. You will find good information and understanding friends here. I do like to tell first-timers that opinions and tact will vary, but we mean well.
  23. Hi.....I'm in Alsip on the South side. On 12/23/2013, had my surgery done at the Loyola University Medical Center on maywood, over by Brookfield Zoo. My surgeon was Dr. Bipan Chand. He was at the Cleveland Clinic from 2003-2012, being instrumental in the development of their bariatric program. He came to Loyola in 2012 and developed their bariatric program. He also teaches bariatric, gastro-intestinal, and robotic surgery at Loyola and performs some services for Edward Hines V A Hospital as well. I was totally pleased with his staff and kind manner and had a textbook recovery. Wishing you an uncomplicated surgery and quick recovery.
  24. 2 Tablespoons peeled and grated fresh ginger 2 Tablespoons peeled and grated fresh tumeric 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 cups Water 1 cup artificial sweetener Bring to boil and simmer at least five minutes. Turn off heat and add 6 green tea bags. Let that steep about 20 minutes. Now you have an awesome concentrate that you can use to make 4-6 servings of tea. If you look up the benefits of the first four ingredients, you will be amazed at how healthy it is. That's good, because it does have a lot of sweetener in it, even though you do divide it out. I always though green tea tasted like dirty feet, but I can actually enjoy it made this way.
