Tomato Soup: Protein: 12 grams per 6-oz serving

    Ingredients:

    Directions:

    1. Microwave skim milk on high for 80 seconds.
    2. Whisk in remaining ingredients until blended.
    3. Microwave again for 10-20 seconds on high. Whisk until smooth

    and..

Mashed Potatoes: Protein: 2 grams per 1 oz-serving

    Ingredients:

    • 2 Tbsp skim milk
    • 1 tsp unflavored protein powder

    Directions:

    1. In a 1-cup size microwave-safe cup, microwave milk for 25 seconds on high.
    2. Stir in remaining ingredients.
    3. Whisk rapidly until smooth.

  2. I have a question. Anyone regretting their decision? No one has said anything so I was just wondering. I'm having a problem with drinking. Doesn't matter how small the sip or how slow I can feel it go through my sleeve and it gurgels (sp?) At me every time.

I was sleeved on Dec. 9th and I spent days this week bawling over my decision to do this to myself. I can drink Water ok but definitely not as much as I need. Protein Shakes (no matter which ones as I've tried 5) throw me into a hypoglycemic attack and I even passed out a couple times this week. Dr said it's likely alimentary hypoglycemia as I get terribly sick with vomiting and diarrhea after the pass out stage. I can drink a few sips without getting sick but any more than that no matter how long it takes to drink them make me sick. So, I am basically getting close to 0 Protein and maybe 100 calories a day in jello/pudding or a few bites of Soup. Not good... I'm just praying that moving on to more solids next week will help.

So sorry to hear this. Try adding Liquid Protein shots to your water, with a little bit of crtyal light.

  3. Surgery was 12/16 and I believe I have the itchiest incisions in the world!! That is my chief complaint at this point so I suppose I am lucky. I am still on clear liquids and I don't move to fulls until Tuesday. I am looking forward to adding to my diet. When will this itching stop?? Ugghhhh!

I was crazy itchy like 5 days out. I wanted to take something and dig..lol I think it was a combination of healing and the glue they sealed my incisions with...but boy did it itch... If that is what Jock Itch feels like...I feel sorry for men...lol

  4. So, better late than never, but I FINALLY got insurance approval at 2:30pm today. It took alot of phone calls to get insurance to push it through, but My surgery is scheduled at 3:30pm tomorrow. I am going to be one hungry girl tomorrow morning!! So far I have lost 11lbs on this pro-op diet and am expecting 1-2lbs more tomorrow due to my clear liquid diet today. I am so excited!!! Please wish me luck! Xoxo

Congrats and Best of luck .....!

  5. Hello everyone ! Still in the hospital , probably will be going home on Saturday. The hospital messed up this morning by giving me a tray full of things with sugar and I have diarrhea now (tmi) I know , but can't go home yet because its more Fluid that I'm putting out then taking in .. hope all the other December 18th sleevers are doing well :)

Hey! Wow...how the heck do they mess that up! Sugar? Really? I hope you're out of there soon and back home ....

  6. Question for the group. Did your NUT or doc tell you exactly how much Protein you should be getting in every day on an individual basis or did they give you a generic minimum amount you should meet?

I'm asking because, my NUT/WLS actually gave me a way to measure how much protein I should be taking to maximize my weight loss based on my height. There's a formula that calculates it, for every inch you are over 5 feet. For instance, I'm 5'9, so that would be 9 x 5 = 45 +100 = 145/2.2=65.90 x 1.5 =98.85 minimum grams of protein I should be eating daily.

I told him, it's pretty much impossible right now, I'm maxing out at 84, he said that was fine for now, but I should reach for the 98.85 to max out weight loss.

So, I was just wondering has anyone else's doc or Nut used this method to determine how much protein or did they just give you a minimum amount?

Btw, I'm on to soft foods on Saturday, yippie!!

  7. Greeting and best wishes to all December sleevers!

I am one of the hosts on this forum and I have a request.

December is my birthday, 65 this month.

Give me the gift of having a very successful surgery!

    :) :) :)

How about a birthday prayer that God will bless you with another year and a successful surgery and healthy recovery:) we r here for u. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Thanks so much! I am one of the new hosts here, I had my surgery in 2010 and indeed it was successful. This is one of three forum areas that I oversee along with other vets. I could really use the prayer for another year. I am already several years past where my cancer docs predicted I would die. I am as healthy as I was in my 20's now, God's grace and this surgery has brought me back from the brink.

Wow! I can definitely relate to the cancer thing. I'm a 4x survivor and pretty much was told my advanced cancer (stage 3b) was not good and it re-occurs often and most women with my type of cancer usually died within five years. Well, I'm still here and it's been six years...and I don't plan on going anywhere except down on the scale. I send you my blessings and a well full of good thoughts... I'm in remission and hope to stay there.. in a month or so I have to go back on maintenance chemo, but it's not a harsh treatment and its every 3 weeks. But oncologist was completely on board for WLS..since morbid obesity contributes significantly to woman's gynecological cancers.

We are survivors! We all are because in some form or fashion, we've all survived something...

    Hugs and love...

  8. Would post tomorrows list but I'm not near a computer , and I'm tryin to do some last minute packing. So GOOD LUCK TO ME AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO HAS SURGERY TOMORROW :)

Best of wishes to you and all the sleevers tomorrow... and remember don't over pack, you won't need much..believe me.

I took travel size toothbruth, mouth wash, change of under garments, cell phone charger, blue tooth ear piece, cell phone, eye glasses and that was pretty much it. Wore their hospital gown and socks, and wore the clothes home that I arrived in..

  9. Returned to work yesterday, it was uneventful and absolutely no stress or pain. I didn't get tired or sleepy either. I was right back into the swing of things, like I never was gone for surgery.

    Amazing.

The only discomfort I've had so far are the muscles in my stomach feel like I've been doing crunches. Probably from climbing the steps instead of taking the elevator most of the day, yesterday.

Came back to an office full of food and christmas goodies though..lol..this place is a junk food haven and they just snack way. I didn't feel left out at all. Everyone here knows I had the surgery and have been very supportive. But I think, I'm going to buy a small fridge for my office to keep it stocked with what I need and just let them have the one in the kitchen.

  10. So I am almost 1 week post surgery. My doctor is not happy as my bowels have not restarted yet. Has anyone experience this and any suggestion?

Took me almost a full week to get moving. I had suregery 12/2 and had no movement until Sunday 12/8--since then, it's been just fine. They listened to my bowels at the hospital and said there was movement and it will eventually make its way down the road...lol..and so it did.

  11. I asked about my stomach. Doc said it was normal in size as was my liver and not much fat around either. He said, there wasn't a bunch of fat to work around or through. I've never had much stomach or back fat even at my highest weight of 348. I'm a true hour glass shape, I carry most of my weight in my thighs, hips and arms. Guess that's why people always say I'm a big girl..lol They would say, you're not fat, just BIG and TALL.. ha AS IF...that made me feel better..ha ha.. puhlease! Sounds like Bigfoot (size 11 wide over here..lol) or an Amazonette!

As for my stomach, I didn't want to see it ..lol.. he said he's had patients that actually requested to take their stomach with them..ewwww... I didn't know you could do that, and he said absolutely. I told him, no thanks, you guys can keep it.

Omg don't give me any ideas lol , I definitely would be the one to take it !! I have all 4 of my wisdom teeth ... Some where lol

lol oh my... what would you do with it... put it on the shelf or keep it in the fridge..lmbo

  12. Have you all been instructed to do a Pre-Surgery Skin Prep?

    What about applying Mederma post-op?

I had to use it Saturday and Sunday night, and then again Monday morning before I went to the hospital. The hardest part was not applying any lotion or gel afterwards. I have very dry skin. I told the nurse, I'll look like a flour cookie ready for baking without any lotion..ha ha

  13. Sure. They are called New Whey Protein Shots. There are a bunch of different flavors; fruit punch, apple, blue raspberry, acai berry, watermelon and grape. I buy them at the Vitaminshoppe. Most times I just dump them in Water, but other times like what I'm drinking right now, I've mixed the apple shot with a pack of crystal light lemonade--very delicious and refreshing. I've also mixed the grape with Milo grape squirts and water, and another fav is crystal light raspberry lemonade and the blue raspberry Protein shot, or and hmmm the acai berry and Milo berry. It's the easiest way for me to get my protein in besides my Premier Protein shakes. You kill two birds with one stone, water and protein :-) Nut said it was a very good idea because I sip in over a period of time.

I'm not sure if I got a bad batch but I bought a case of the fruit punch and gagged trying to drink it. It has a horrible, almost rancid after taste. I'm hoping Vitamin Shoppe takes returns as they're certainly not cheap!

In better news, I finally received my nectar protein today and am liking that much better. I mixed the kiwi strawberry with water and crystal light pomegranate cherry. Pretty delish!

Ewww fruit punch anything makes me gag, before and after my sleeve..lol I prefer berry and apple flavors, anything but fruit punch..I absolutely hate fruit punch ANYTHING.

  14. QUESTION??? TO THOSE WHO'VE BEEN SLEEVED!!!

    - Did you ask to see what your stomach looked like, or if they took pictures etc.

I'm very curious to know what it looks like on the inside!! Like was it fatty, was my liver smaller , the list goes on an on..

  15. Sure. They are called New Whey Protein Shots. There are a bunch of different flavors; fruit punch, apple, blue raspberry, acai berry, watermelon and grape. I buy them at the Vitaminshoppe. Awesome, thank you! I actually have a New Whey variety pack box, but I don't think the apple is in it. I do like that brand! Great idea with the Mio squirts (I assume you mean Mio not Milo right?) Will try that soon, sounds good.

Btw, I just decided tonight to make a batch of protein pops...from my mixture. I ran out of sugar free pops and there was no way I'm running out to the store in this weather, so I decided to just make some with a kit I've had from my weight watchers days. They are in the freezer now, I will let you know how they turn out...it will be another way to get our protein in, if it works out. The mixture I'm drinking now taste like a Green Apple Jolly Rancher..hope the ice pops turn out the same..never tried to freeze protein before.

Anyway, I'll let you know. I put some in an ice tray too, see if I can make some ice cubes to suck on.

Yes Mio...lol I was watching Milo the Cat with my niece today, so I guess it's stuck in my brain..ha ha

  17. Hi everyone! Thanks for the well wishes. Surgery was yesterday morning at 9. I was so tired before that from going to bed so late (work) and getting up so early to get to the hospital.

The hospital and staff were amazing. Even though there are closer hospitals, given a choice, I will go back there!

Surgery went well. He found out that I have a congenital birth defect! I have a diaphragmatic hernia (hernia/opening in my diaphragm. He said he could only do one or the other so he did the sleeve and said I would need to get the hernia fixed at some point.

Due to my previous terrible recoveries I made sure they did all they could do. I took the emend when I got to the hospital, then they gave me of ran under the tongue and patch behind the ear. I still woke up a bit sick but nothing like before and it didn't last long. I have 5 incisions. One on my right side where he pulled out the stomach hurts the most. I was on dilaudid at the hospital. I was in no pain as long as I didn't move! I had some gas pain just in mid chest. I did take a gasx. Not sure if that helped or if it just went away on its own.

I peed all night long, almost every hour. I was able to do it all myself but needed help reconnecting the SCD boots. I would get up, go to the bathroom, quick walk down the hall, pee again and then get back in bed.

I am very fortunate in that I can drink pretty easily. I have to stop myself because too many sips causes a bit of pain in my chest but I'm even able to drink my shakes. I hated everything they gave me as it was all sugar free. I tasted all of it just to see if I could tolerate it, and I could.

When I got home, I made a shake with a dose of Miralax as I want stay on top of that. I'm pretty much staying put in the recliner in my bedroom. I only take the dilaudid when I have pain while not moving. No catheter, no drain.

I don't know when I will be able to add the new people to the list. If someone wants to copy and paste the most recent list into a new reply, they can also add the new folks.

I hope everyone is doing well on their preops and postops!

So glad you made it through and home safely. Rest now.
