  1. So I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the yoyo scale? I'm down a pound for a day or two, then up a half or whole pound. The next day it usually goes back to lower than before the gain but it really depressing to see gains when I'm eating 500 calories and walking a mile. Grrrrrrrr.

If you're walking a mile a day and only taking in 500 calories, as my trainer and Nut both said, you're at a deficit and your body will react as such; up your Protein and Water, if you're working out regularly.

  2. I lost 18lbs on pre-op diet, then lost 30lbs my first month, but it has definitely slowed down. I did get a personal trainer and I do hit the gym 4x a week. I've also been able to get in between 90 and 100 grams of Protein daily, as well as 96 oz of Water. I stalled for about 6 days (2x) but it broke with each time with a significant loss.

Keep at it people when was the last time, we loss weight without being hungry or killing ourselves in the process. I feel great even though I'm eating much less..who knew..I was always hungry, cranky or grumpy when I tried to lose weight before.

  3. I had no issue with salsa though some do complain about it. I had no issue with cinnamon either, but it back fires on a lot of people. I had hot sauce too with no problem. One day I had hot and sour Soup from the restaurant and it made me run to the bathroom. Thought it might have been the spices but the next time I tried it, I had no problem. Hmm...love the hot and sour soup and NUT said..good idea. I do a half a cup for lunch or dinner with a couple of saltines crackers thrown in...another yummy meal..

You're definitely going to have to transition to some soft/pureed food. So yes lady put them big girl panties on..lol

I tried wonton soup liquid on New Year's Day and it sat ok but I could only manage 4 or 5 tablespoons -- it seemed too rich or flavorful even with only liquid ..... It smelled amazing though!!

Never had hot sour soup or egg drop but I hear they are both good

Do you eat the saltine crackers with the liquid?

Don't think my NUT will allow crackers for me at 4 weeks out

I loved spicy food before VSG so hope I have similar tolerance level when I start regular solids

I have no issues with skim milk or cinnamon nutmeg and ginger -- I mix those in with my designer whey powder almost every morning

Almond milk seems to bother me all of a sudden -- I really enjoyed it prior to my VSG

Baby food and FAGE Greek yogurt sit will if I Blend blend blend

Hot and Sour is delish..and I actually put the two crackers in the soup and they turn to mush, so it's easier to digest. My Nut said not to eat them too often, but once in a while is okay.

  4. My trainer said if you increase your Water and your Protein, you will lose at a steady clip, working out or not, But if you're working out, you need even more protein so you don't go into starvation mode. My Nut said the same thing.

If you are stalled read this thread about increasing water and protein intake and/or the amount of weight loss or scale movement by doing so. Very informative and interesting.

  5. Holy smokes 96 oz of Water and 100g Protein. What are u eating/drinking to get all that protein in

It's a combination between Liquid Protein (shakes, Isopure drink and regular protein (chicken, beef, beans) or a combination of regular protein from food plus a couple of protein scoops in my yogurt or sf pudding. Sometimes I add liquid protein to my water (I drink 32 oz at the gym or home before work) then I do another two 32oz at work during the day. One bottle of Isopure drink is 40 grams of protein and two scoops of Isopure powder is like 50g of protein, 1 bottle of New Whey protein shot in my water split through out the day is 42g of protein, So, it's been pretty easy to get it in.

  6. Try pureed egg whites. They are a good transition food. I've graduated to adding onions, baked chicken, grilled steak, baked ham, little bit of peppers etc to my egg whites. I put everything in my magic bullet and let it rip. It purees it so well, when it's done it like liquid. Put it in the pan and then scramble the mixture up..when its done add a TSP of mild salsa and a sprinkle of low fat cheese.. Yummmmmy!

Thanks for the tips jerzy girl -- not sure how I will react to the salsa, I hear the acid doesn't sit well with many folks ... Perhaps I'll just try the whites and cheese as a start and see how I feel

So nervous but I have to put my big girl pants on now!!

  7. Yeah, I'm not seeing it..but others are making comments about me shrinking. I will post some pics, I just have to work up to it. Not a fan of pics of me.. :-) But you have inspired me...and I'm sure I'll get up the nerve eventually.

Keep up the great work... I haven't gotten on the scale since Saturday...I'm fighting the urge to weigh everyday, but so far I'm winning the battle. It's torture though.

It does get frustrating with getting on the scale and it's not moving. But yet I still get on and weigh myself everyday. I just came off and almost a week stall at 297.

Hopefully, I won't stall this week, but if I do, it's cool. We've lost a great deal of weight in a short period of time. Plus I'm working out 4 days a week with a trainer. So, my body is changing definitely. I managed to get my Water intake up to 960z a day now and 100g of Protein, trainer said that should help things move along at a steady pace. We shall see come because time will tell.

You look great. But I'm not confident enough to post a pic..lol At least not yet. But you definitely inspire me. You can see the difference....it's a big one too.

Posting this pic has inspired me by reading everyone compliments. It took me a while to see the difference but everyone say u can see it off the back. So I'm sure you have some pics like mine since our weight and results have been the same. So post your pic already... :-)

  9. Think I'm stalled...

Been losing a pound a day since surgery up until Monday jan 6 - surgery was dec 12

    HW 260

    SW about 237

    CW 210.4 (past 3 days)

4 weeks out tomorrow and really haven't tried any mushy pureed foods other than FAGE Greek yogurt and banana baby food blended well with Protein Shakes - other than that just Water and broth on occasion. Split pea Soup thinned out was ok.

I'm scared to try anything else due to hernia pain and the heavy sandbag feeling in my chest after only 1 tablespoon of thinned oatmeal 2 weeks ago

Can't imagine trying tuna and chili like so many others have tried even earlier out than me .... I have to start soon tho cause I def need more Protein sources; these shakes are getting boring quick

Try pureed egg whites. They are a good transition food. I've graduated to adding onions, baked chicken, grilled steak, baked ham, little bit of peppers etc to my egg whites. 10. Does anyone have an explanation for the "stall"? Why the body reacts.

I went to a support group meeting tonight (they are held twice a month by the NUT and the Nurse). This question came up tonight..and they explained your body is adjusting. It has gone through trauma, has dumped its Water weight and now must shift into burning actual fat. This causes it to pause and say hey wait a minute this is something new and I have to take a minute and reconfigure myself. For later stalls, it's just a matter of the body again catching up and readjusting itself.

Ultimately it breaks though. The advice given was just continue to work the program, make sure you're getting your Protein, Vitamins and water in and the scale will eventually move again because it is not possible for it to stand still forever with the amount of food you're taking in (if done properly and you're not in starvation mode). Myself and several others asked about upping our calories because we're working out 4-5 dyas a week and the NUT said you absolutely must. (okay so my trainer was right..lol..still glad I asked though) He said, if you're eating only 700 alories and burning 500, you're going to put your body in starvation mode and it will hold onto every thing. He also said the ceiling for those working out should be 1200 calories per day because as you gain muscle it will continue to burn calories 24 hours a day. Otherwise you will get weak and tired.

Sorry about the ramble..but I really enjoyed the support group, got a lot of info and made some new friends, locally.

  11. I'm in the 200's!!! Been 3 years since I've lived in this neighborhood! Of course, I'm only visiting!!

I stayed the exact same weight for 6 days -- woke up this morning to a 2.5lb loss! Woot!

    Yep..I'm claiming that half pound..lol!

Congrats! We are the same weight now!

Girl..I was to through with that darn scale. I kept wanting to check the batteries..lol..but finally it broke. Thanks....

  12. I was sleeved last Tuesday (4 days ago). I have two problems right now: a painful burn-like rash on my chest (not where the tape or incisions are) and a heck of a lot of gas.

I suspect the rash was from when they put the sterilizing solution on - the rash is where there are folds of skin. Doc office told me to use hydrocortisone cream and it seems to help.

I'm doing lots of walking )which helps with the gas), but when I sit down to drink something, the gas acts up. How long will this continue?

Hi Meg, if the rash doesn't seem go go away with the hydrocortisone, try yeast infection cream. I sometimes, esp in the summer, would get yeast rashes in some folds of skin. I buy the generic 7 day yeast kit in the feminine product aisle as it has the biggest tube of cream in it.

I got them underneath my breast in the summer. What worked for me was Tinactin (Jock Itch spray). It also felt good going on the skin because it came out the can cool. Cleared it up in no time at all...creams were too greasy for me.

  13. My sleeve mentor loss 75lbs in 3 months...then it slowed a bit, she said, but in 6 months she loss 122lbs.

She said she was very strict and did hire a personal trainer to assist. She also kept it very low carb, pretty much a lean version of Atkins, she ate no Pasta, no rice, no potatoes, no bread...and worked out 5 days a week. Weight flew off her. She's since added some of those things back into her diet in small amounts, but still works out 5 days a week, so she hasn't gained.

I'm trying to follow her lead.

I did hit my goal to be under 300 by 1/1/14. I did my measurements. Since 12/16/13 ive lost 14.5 inches all over and 29 lbs.

Excellent Job! I'm still clinging to 300lbs--scale has not moved since Saturday (OY!). My personal trainer said its because I'm doing a lot of weight training and cardio and I should up my calories--but I'm scared to do that--want to talk to the doc and NUT before I change anything outside of the plan they've laid out.

scale not moving, but clothes getting bigger--thank goodness for inches.
