  1. Eating until I'm full would not work for me. For some reason my band doesn't work that way. I'm still hungry even after I've eaten probably more than I should have. I do have to measure amounts.

Of course, this was before I've been experiencing problems with my band. Now I'm basically on liquids until I can figure out my reflux problems.

  2. I'm 1 year post-op and just started getting acid reflux when I got stuck on a Vitamin A month ago. I've had two .25 cc unfills but it's obviously not enough because I'm still tight and I've still got reflux. I think I'll be scheduling another unfill, this time probably 1 cc and see how that goes. That will probably put me at around 3 or 3.5 cc's in a 10 cc band. (I've lost track of how many cc's I have).

Thank you everyone for posting how dangerous this is. I had no idea that the acid could cause a precancerous condition in my esophagus!!! How scary!

  3. I didn't know it was recommended to get one after a year. I'm one year post-op and my doc has never mentioned it. I'm also self-pay so maybe that's one reason - he doesn't want me to have to pay a lot of money. If you're paying 500 to 600 with insurance I'd hate to see how much it is without.

So for those of you having acid reflux, what was your problem? I'm having a lot of acid reflux right now.

  4. Yeah, I had two .25 cc unfills in the past little while. This is why I don't get the band and why I think it's quite finicky. I think the next one will be .50 cc's. I puked up some finely ground nuts last night. I think my stomach is just very, very sensitive or something. Any little thing happens and it seems to tighten up.

  5. Steph, this happened to me last night! I see what you mean now. My back has been hurting lately and all of a sudden my back was really hurting bad, I had a headache, was dizzy, felt really hot and nauseous. Five minutes later I puked, then immediately felt better. Then about 1/2 hour later it happened again, and then one more time for a total of 3 puking episodes, always having the flu-like symptoms beforehand. I'm telling you, I'm starting to get sick of how this band makes me feel.

I'm constantly washing my hands in dread of getting the stomach flu, and I'm scared to travel in case I get a bug. Seriously, if nothing bad happens to the band before then, I will be getting it out next year.

  6. Aubrie, if I could eat like you I would be happy. Right now I can't eat Protein or veggies or fruit because they won't go down. All I have in a day is milk. I'm going to get another unfill, this time a larger one, so I can EAT again. I've had two .25 cc unfils lately but they haven't helped. This band is so finicky. I don't get it.

  7. Hey Scarecrow, no, I'm not getting in Protein because my stomach keeps getting irritated and only liquids go down. I just cracked open my Protein Shakes again today though. I've been feeling quite blue lately - probably because I'm not getting enough "something" in my diet. I'm not eating my Vitamins either because the last time I swallowed them I got stuck bad which really irritated my stomach and resulted in a partial unfill. And if I crush them they still irritate my esophagus going down. I've been eating juice Plus though which is supposed to contain concentrated amounts of fruit and veggies. I'm just not feeling healthy. :cursing: Boy, what a pity party, huh?

  8. It seems everyone needs to have a barium swallow with an X-ray to determine a slip, right? Just an X-ray without the barium can't possibly show anything or can it? My doc wanted to do just an X-ray to see if the band had moved. The nurse said they could tell from the position of the band on the X-ray whether the band placement had moved and therefore whether it slipped. This didn't make sense to me because I've heard on here how so many people need the barium to show the path of the liquid. Opinions on this anyone?

I've had a lot of acid reflux and not able to eat very much more than liquids so I had a partial unfill and was quite well for a few days, but then I think I overdid it a bit on the food which probably aggravated things again and I'm back to a lot of acid reflux and liquids. I'm so worried I have a slip, BUT I will not have an X-ray taken unless I absolutely have to (for radiation/health reasons). This is why I refused the first X-ray and got a partial unfill instead, because it didn't make sense to do it without the barium. I just want to educate myself fully before I get this durn X-ray taken, because I sure don't want to have to get another one done with barium at a later time. :smile2: (I'm the type that won't even use a cell phone:tongue_smilie:)

  9. Kasey - thanks for the suggestions. Are you a YA fan? I also loved all of Karen Cushman's books (except for Rodzina). She had a few Newberry awards. I'm finding anything with a Newberry award I generally like a lot. How exciting to get your book published!! You'll have to tell us what it is so we can read it.

Did you get banded Nov of '07? Or is that your join date? You should come join our November group. It's a great bunch of people.

  10. Hey Steph! I'm with you, girl. I eat barely anything and the scale rarely budges. Maybe 1 pound per month if I'm lucky. And I'm also a smaller size this time around per body weight than the last time I was at this weight. Weird. For me it takes a loooong time of watching what I eat, then I can physically feel my body getting smaller, even though the scale stays the same. Then about a week later I'll lose a pound. Then I have to stay at that weight or even a little above before the scale will move down again the next month. What I don't understand is how I would ever have lost weight with typical diets pre-band - like weight watchers, Jenny Craig, Atkins, etc. I tried them all and lose a few, and then that would be that. Now I know that for what my body needs to lose weight is really hardly anything - like two glasses of milk a day and maybe an orange, something like that. It's absolutely ridiculous.
