I had severe plantar fasciitis prior to surgery. The pain began to subside after two weeks post op. Currently the pain is about 90 percent improved since surgery and I'm a little over 3 months out.

I feel fantastic! My suggestion is to make the break from carbs during the preop phase and avoid them at all costs. Once you reintroduce the carbs those old cravings that got us in this mess will return as well. Also, find a good Protein Shake that you like and drink it religiously. Keep moving! You must be super excited and feel like a new person those are great results. Fantastic job!!! Any tips? I'm scheduled for May 9.

Yes yes yes, three months post op and zero regrets, zero complications. Down 75 pounds since preop diet.

Hang in there! Just remember that no pie is worth daily insulin injections or not being able to play with your kids. That's what I tell myself when someone walks in the room with food. It will be worth it.

Very normal and it will happen again. Try not to weigh everyday. I weigh on Wednesday and Saturdays only.

I was sleeved in January, BCBS Federal covered 100% less $150 hospital and $150 surgeon co payments.

I was pre diabetic with an A1C of 5.9 preop, currently my post surgical A1C stands at 4.7. These numbers reflect average fasting glucose levels of 120 and 90 respectively. Big difference.

I'm 2 1/2 months out and have had issues with Constipation as well This is what works for me. Three doses of Benefiber per day and two doses of Dulcolax stool softener. Lots of fluids.
-
As said befor this is orthostatic hypotension. Your body will adjust after awhile. Just work on getting your fluids in and get up very slowly so your body can adjust to change in position. It will get better over time. Since you had doctor check you out and nothing wrong just be patient and it will get better. Just slow down when changing position.
I agree, it's normal with lower BP readings. Mine has been less lately but worse in the second month post op.

I'm a case worker as well and took three weeks off after surgery. I could have probably returned after 10 days but was glad I took the three weeks.

I have a very sedentary job in front of a computer at work. Park just outside the office, not a walk at all. Has anyone gone back to work in 7-10 days after having their VSG. I am hoping to.
I have a very similar job and still took three weeks off. It's getting through those food phases and becoming accustomed to what and how much you can eat that would have messed me up had I gone back sooner. By week three I was sure of my diet and what to take with me. The physical stuff, being tired or running out of fuel never was an issue for me.

I was pre diabetic before my surgery 9 weeks ago with average fasting blood sugars of 120. One month after surgery my fasting blood sugars dropped to 90. I had not seen numbers like that in years. My pcp had warned me last year that if I did not lose substantial weight he was going to start me on oral diabetic meds this year. Thanks to my sleeve no chance of that happening and he was ecstatic about the turn around.

My surgeon said to chew away. So I do. He said that my gi tract was unchanged as far as rerouting goes so not to worry. Seems to me that some food items would get stuck as well if gum would.

Btw, I review medical charts for a living and because of that I was able to see my future had I continued weighing 300 pounds. It ain't pretty! Take your time and do your research, talk to your family and let them know how you feel. You will know when it's the right time.

No regrets here, had no pain, no nausea, have not vomited one time either. Just had some hot wings (4) from chillies for dinner and they went down fine. I'm almost 9 weeks out and I'm down 63 pounds. Not doing anything was a bigger risk for me. I have three teenagers at home and I kept wondering how my wife was going to explain to my kids that their daddy had died from a heart attack or a stroke because he weighed 300 pounds. Everyone on this site was scared at some point before their surgery, but when you are unhealthy you live in fear everyday. Now for the first time in a long time I truly believe I will live to be an old man. No more fear here.

How long are you usually in the Hospital?
I was in for 24 hours
What should I pack?
Pillow, toiletries, blanket, gas x strips, home medications, cpap, robe, slippers, comfortable clothes for ride home. Phone charger, glasses,
Does it hurt?
Only pain I've had during this journey was a really bad bout with Constipation about 5 days after surgery.
Anything specific you guys have found that you needed when you got home from the hospital?
Benefiber and a good stool softener.
What were the best ways to stay positive through the pain?
Keep your eye on the goal. You will be healthier!
When did you begin to feel normal again?
About a week after I was feeling pretty good.
Are there certain foods i will never eat again?
I can probably eat just about anything but I choose not to. I just don't crave those foods anymore. I sometimes think about them but then it just goes away.

I think the age issue is dependent on your health condition and should be left up to your doctors. This is major surgery and they will want to make sure you are a good candidate. As with any surgery you will need medical clearance from the different medical specialties. Cardiac, endocrine, pulmonary, etc. I wouldn't let my age keep me from seeking out this life saving surgery. It's very possible that a healthier 73 year old would be a much better candidate than a 53 year old who is not.

I would watch my carbs and calories. I stay under 25 carbs and 800 calories daily and don't exercise. although it would help. I've dropped 63 pounds since my preop diet 11 weeks ago.

I take a Celebrate Multivitamin and Calcium soft chew twice a day. The bariatric program at the hospital sells them for $15 each, also available on line for $10. No issues with swallowing these. The Multivitamin is very berry and the Calcium is caramel. Highly recommended.
Surgery tomorrow
