  1. I did not track until I was 2 months post op. I tended to eat when I felt hungry and if I could only tolerate a bite that was all I had. My consultant (UK) seems a lot more laid back than the USA ones and we had a lot less guidelines to follow' date=' and definitely none of the rigorous tests and procedures you guys have to go through. For the first two weeks post op, I couldn't tolerate a stitch of Protein in any form and basically lived on very diluted ice tea. Everyone's journey is so unique and I think at the end of the day, you will find your own rhythm. Good Luck!![/quote']

I'm UK too and I have to agree. Didn't have to have a leak test before discharge. When I asked the surgeon why he said that new research has shown it's really not necessary and the dye causes diarrhoea so they don't do it. I have to say I am totally impressed with my surgeon who seems to be right at the front when it comes to new techniques ( he is one of the few surgeons that can do the surgery via a single incision). I have been given a booklet on what I can eat at what stage and what to avoid. Other than that it's up to me what I do. I don't track. I am one of the few that feel hunger and so eat when im hungry.

  2. I missed this topic' date=' so here I am. I was sleeved on 8/29 and I am trying to work this journey but boy is it a major change to my life. I feel like a thirsty so I want to drink a glass of ice cold Water fast but the sipping is driving me crazy and when I take to big of a sip I feel like I need to be burped. lol this is crazy. But its my new journey and I am taking it one day at a time.[/quote']

Does your stomach make sounds like an old boiler or a drainhole too? Mine does. It's actually quite comical.

  3. I was on 64 oz Gatorade (not diet) and diluted fruit juice for 7 days. Then to purée for 3-4 weeks. I have my first check up at that point and I move to mechanical soft for 3-4 weeks. Check up. Then soft for 3-4 weeks. Check up. Then regular diet. I thought the lack of full liquids was odd' date=' too, but I promised to follow doctor's orders.

Thanks for the tip on meat based Soups with milk powder. What is milk powder -- like Protein powder, or just reg powdered milk? Do you have any meat based Soup recommendations? I tried a cheeseburger soup last night. It was eh.[/quote']

    What's mechanical soft mean?

It's basically powdered milk. But be careful as if you buy a coffee whitener it may not actually contain any milk. In the UK we have a brand called Marvel. Not sure if you have that there. By meat based Soups I was thinking more along the lines of chicken and leek, chicken and vegetable, cream of chicken. Beef n vegetable...that kind of thing. Cheeseburger soup sounds disgusting. Lol! I made Bolognese today with steak mince and then blended it. Was very nice! :-)

  5. I was sleeved on 8/30 and left the hospital on 9/1. Dr ordered one week on clear fluids (no protein). I kind of started purées on Sunday' date=' but it's not going well. I'm not getting my 64 oz fluids and I'm definitely not hitting 60 g Protein. I found one Protein Shake (Click Espresso) I can tolerate in terms of taste and have realized that its responsible for my urgent diarrhea -- so it's back to the drawing board. Good news is I'm down to 280 lbs today (that's 21 lbs post-surgery).

I'm going to try nectar Unflavored with SF pudding later tonight. Anyone try that?

Also, what's the word on baby food? Anyone use it?

My Magic Bullet died on me, so I'm waiting for my replacements: a B&D food chopper and an Oster Beehive blender. They should be here tomorrow. Yayy![/quote']

You went straight from Clear Liquids to puree? What happened to the full liquid stage? If you blend a meat based Soup and add milk powder it will thicken it and add protein.

  6. Oh wow! Just had a Celebrate Multi-Vitamin and it came right back up....may be too soon. Sleeved the 29th...B12 has been fine but first time trying the multi-vitamin. Will be a while until I do that again. Any multi-vitamin faves?

Do you have berocca over there? It's effervescent multi-vitamins plus a few minerals thrown in. I know it's effervescent but it's hardly any fizz at all compared to sodas and I sip it throughout the day. Been having it since day 1. I was sleeved on 11th August and 26.5lbs down so far. (I didn't do a pre-surgery diet). I have noticed I am a bit low on Iron, which isnt in the berocca but you can get liquid iron supplements.< /p>

  7. I know I probably shouldn't have' date=' but I got on the scale tonight. I was sleeved 8/28. As of 9/4 (the last time I got on the scale), I was down 16 pounds. Tonight it said I was up 1.5 pounds. This can't be right. I have barely eaten anything the last two days because everything keeps making me nauseous! Ugh! So frustrated![/quote']

I gained 3lbs overnight 2 weeks ago. Don't worry, it'll come back off.

  8. I'm now on pureed foods and finally able to calm the hunger with something other than a Protein shake- though i still have to drink them to get all the Protein requirement in- i'm surprised with how little i'm eating- and feeling satisfied! Sounds like a lot of us on this app have that same concern about stretching our stomaches! How are you doing???

How are all aug 26th sleevers doing????

Not me. I have been so hungry all the time and was able to eat more than I should without discomfort. However, after 3 days on puree it all started to settle down and now things are very different. Am not nearly as hungry and eating less. The dog is loving it and sits by me at meal times as she knows she'll get half! Lol!

  9. I will start my purée diet on the 19' date=' I will be 21 days post-op by then , I'm sick of the shakes, so ready for some taste of real food.[/quote']

Trust me, you soon get sick of purees too. Im one week in on puree and counting the minutes to soft foods. In fact, last night I had 2 cream crackers with butter. I chewed them to death so by the time I swallowed they were basically pureed but oh, how nice it was to bite and chew!

  10. This week I have developed diarrhea' date=' with the cramping and goosebumps. I went from what I would say was normal loose stools every 3 days (liquid in, liquid out right!) to 3-4 times a day urgent diarrhea. (could it be b/c I am on purees now?) My doc had me on a daily colace and I am cutting that out today, but I am miserable and can't leave the house. I start work on Monday so need to get a handle on this NOW.

I only hit my 60 oz Protein goal 1 day and have never hit my 64 oz Fluid goal, pushing myself today to do both in hopes that it will help me. Anybody else having this problem?[/quote']

Have you sought medical advice on the diarrhoea? I was on liquids only for 3 weeks after surgery but was told I could have anything as long as it was a liquid so started blending Soups. I was back to normal stools within 5 days. I didn't ever suffer cramping or goosebumps though. Also, I haven't managed to get all my fluids or Protein in since I started and it hasn't done me any harm. Pinch the skin on the back of your hand for about a minute. If it takes ages to go back down when you let it go, you are dehydrated and need to get more fluids in. If it pings back almost immediately, you're ok. Also, a nice milkshake counts as fluids and protein so is a good choice. Hope this helps.

  11. I know I did. I went from dreaming about food to not so much. This whole journey is interesting In that things change so much from day to day' date=' that what you think/feel today is no guarantee of the next day. Just have to be very flexible about things.[/quote']

I think it may be down to acid and has got better because I started taking a ranitidine in the evening ad well as the losanzaprole in the morning. I also noticed that despite having nothing to eat until 3.30pm today, when I did eat, I couldn't eat as much. Happy days if this continues! :)

  12. If it's a hole then you need to get medical attention. Mine was stitched underneath the skin and the skin glued. Sounds like yours has come undone. I did have a small section that took is time healing but it's now pretty much there. Go and see your doctor before you get an infection. X

  13. The stomach noises should be temporary. Do you take a daily PPI? That usually helps with the hunger and the burping. Also' date=' do you take your time eating? It's really hard to get into the habit of slow eating but it helps.[/quote']

Yes, I take losanzaprole daily but I was taking that before my op so am wondering if i should maybe be one higher dose. However, I took a ranitidine last night and it didn't really help. I am making an effort to eat my meals over 30 minutes but this burping starts almost immediately after the first mouthful or sip. Saying that, I ate my dinner faster tonight and bizarrely the burping wasn't so bad and I feel quite comfortable.

  14. Ok, can anyone help me out. Ever since my surgery I have felt hungry all the time and am able to eat more than I should without any discomfort. I'm now on the pureed stage (3 weeks , 2 days) and my hunger might die down a bit after a meal for about an hour. However, during this time I am burping like billio! It doesn't matter if I have a drink or food, as soon as I swallow something it starts, often accompanied by a few choice parps too. My stomach also sounds like an old drain. I can live with this if it's temporary but if this is gonna be permanent it will really get me down. Anyone know if it will pass or if I'm stuck with it?

  15. I thought I'd be in the group of "not feeling hungry until 12 mths"' date=' but no, I'm in the other 50% - the ones that felt hunger almost immediately (actually it took about 12 days to feel hunger).

While I can only eat 4-6 bites at a time ( 7 1/2 weeks out), I'm hungry again 90 minutes later. I'm sposed to be eating 3 meals by now, but I'd starve it I did that. I counted up my few bites + my Protein shake and if I ate 3x a day, I'd be getting about 400 calories. Far too few to live for very long. So I eat 7-8 times a day. Sometimes just a few bites of cheese will tide me over. Since I started eating regular foods the past couple days, I'm going to start keeping Jerky and almonds in my purse for quick Snacks (preventing me from the Taco Bell drive thru for refried Beans - those are 3 meals in that little bowl). I'm definitely a cheap date now!

So, yes, about 50% of us have actual hunger. Some will say it's stomach acid that it's not possible to have hunger. I know what stomach acid feels like plus I take a ppi 2x a day. And I know what hunger feels like. I feel like I got ripped off, that they left the Ghrelin (hunger hormone) in there...[/quote']

Lol! You know, part of me is suspicious that they didn't remove anything and just poked a hole in my belly button. Lol! I can eat about a bread plate's worth of food and then get hungry again about 60 to 90 mins later. I'm in week 4 now. Please, somebody tell me this goes away....
