Chewing the Fat About the Holidays

This will be my 2nd holiday season with the band. Last year was really tough because I still had the mentality of filling up my plate to the fullest with all the food I love. At a table with 12 people I was so self-conscious (they don't know). One, two bites of turkey and I was done. It was quite embarrassing and I had to excuse myself to go PB. I have learned after dealing with Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and many family dinners and brunches that I just take a tiny tiny bit of food. I do tricks to make it look like my plate is fuller (like put a ramekin on my plate), then I push food around a lot and I even push some off onto my husband's plate. If I want more, I can go back, but I should not overload it because it is so obvious. Also, the experience is no longer about the food, but spending time with family and friends, having a good time.

my hair thinned out in the first 6 months, but then it started to grow back. It is back now to its original thickness.

    Made my mom cry

I haven't had this problem, but think you should tell your mom that you are doing this for your health. For once, you are doing something for YOU. What you need from her is her support through this experience. My DH was not supportive at the first thought, but I told him something similar and he backed me 100%.

    For those who have PCOS

I don't agree. My dr said that PCOS patients have 3x harder when trying to lose weight because of the hormone imbalance.I have lost 100lbs before on my own, only to gain it back. The lapband will stop me from yo-yo'ing which is not good for your body!
  7. I set my goal based on BMI. I want to weigh around what my 24-25 BMI would be.

    Calling all recipies

Corn casserole is quick and easy and always a hit. 1 can of creamed corn 1 can of regular corn (drained) 1 8 oz container of sour cream 1 box of jiffy corn bread mix 1 stick of butter melted mix all ingredients in a bowl. Pour into a greased 1.5-2 QT casserole dish and back in a preheated over at 350 for 45 min-to an hour. Casserole is done when toothpick can be inserted in center and come out clean.

    Detached port

My port flipped and I had to have surgery to correct it. Sometimes they can just tilt and they might be able to still access it. However, in a case of a full flip, the problem is that you can't get fills, which stalls your progress. I found out 8 weeks after my surgery that my port flipped when they couldn't access my port. I went in for revision surgery and it was a much easier recovery than the 1st surgery.

I just finished the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyers. Loved it! I read all 4 in about a week, because they were that good!

    New from Tennessee!

Hi Jenn, Welcome and congrats on taking the 1st steps towards your new life! I have PCOS/insulin resistance as well, which made it really hard for me to lose weight without the band. Good luck!

    Will the band ever work?

Hi Mum, Don't lose hope. I was in the same boat as you (a lot of us were). I actually gained weight between my surgery and first fill. Also, many people don't start to feel restriction until about your 3rd fill. I didn't feel anything until I got in the 6 cc/ml full. Also, you can ask your dr if you can come in sooner before 4 weeks. In the beginning I went in every 3 weeks to be agressive with my fills.

    Sharp pain...please help

Port pain is pretty common after surgery. There are a lot of nerves around there and things are still trying to heal.I always called them "zingers", I even had to pull over once when I was driving. They lasted up to 8 weeks after surgery and were totally random.
  16. Hi Jazie, I had this same problem, except they found it when I went in for my 2nd fill. They never did find out exactly "why" and Dr's won't admit it was their wrong doing, however my Dr. kind of did. He said "I probably shouldn't tell you this, so don't try to sue me or anything, but ever since I started using dissolvable stitches, you are the 3rd person who has flipped a port. I am going back to using regular stitches." I was excerising very regularly and intensely but I wasn't doing any ab work at all. Recovery for this surgery was much easier than the first. Good luck!! You can send me a PM if you want to ask more questions.
  17. Yeah, you can definitely be causing damage and I would not recommend you continue. It could cause your band to slip and then you would possible have to go back in for surgery to put it back. It's not worth it! Try to wait it out. Sometimes I feel like I can't take it but the pressure quickly subsides as I walk/jump around and I will hold my arms straight in the air.
  18. Hi Dionna, Thanks! I just reached 100 lbs during this past week. I didn't start a new thread bc I am also almost in ONEderland (only 3 lbs to go!!), so maybe I will Celebrate both at the same time. I did take some new pictures and posted them to the before/after picture thread. I also have some new pics on my blog.
  19. Update at 103 lbs down! Even I am amazed at the results! There are a couple more on my blog.

    Private question

I don't smoke it, but if you want to, it's your body. I think you should probably wait for your body to heal more, IMO. I know some people will say that they smoke cigarettes and are ok, but honestly you are not supposed to do that either while your body is still healing. Also, cigarettes have a filter, when you smoke pot you don't have a filter, so the smoke is stronger and more damaging to your body.

    Stretched Pouch

You will have symptoms like acid reflux (especially at night), night cough, etc. It is caused by overeating, being too tight, Pb'ing a lot.

PCOS with Clomid rule, I am shocked!

that's definitely not a rule. You can just go to another dr to get it or a specialist. The higher your BMI, the less likely it will work for you. I was on clomid when my BMI was about 46 when I did this. I took 3 times the normal dosage for 3 months and it never worked for me. My Reproductive Endocronologist told me to lose weight and it should work...

    Lapband And Pcos

It is harder to lose weight with PCOS, but hang in there! I had to start really exercising to make the weight come off. I go to the gym 6 days a week. Lutasha, I know exactly how you feel...I also was self conscious that people who knew were "watching", but screw them! Seriously, you are doing this for you, not them. I was a slow loser at first and then it all started to fall off when I got restriction and started exercising.

    My 2nd fill and...

Hi, most people don't start feeling restriction until fill 3 or 4. I know that I didn't start to feel real restriction until fill # 4. Be patient, it will come. 1 lbs lost is better than 1 lb gained!
