  4. Hello all! I am beginning my journey on being sleeved at Kaiser (West LA). I have my orientation on 9/11 and begin the six weeks Options program on 9/18. I'm 5'3" and weigh 244 lbs. Anyone a Kaiser patient? Who was your doctor? Did you loose your 10% during Options? I would appreciate any information anyone has. Also, for those who have already been sleeved, please tell me all about it Thanks!! kelly

    Who Are You?

Love this thread!!! Name is Kelly, I'm 44 and married to a wonderful, loving and supportive man, Curtiss. We have been married 8 years this month, together 13. I have one biological son, Ethan, he's 17 and the light of my life. When Curt and I married, I was lucky enough to have 5 new children to love. We have two grandchildren and love the whole grandparent thing! I'm a legal secretary, have been for the last 22 years, I currently work for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, working in the Police Litigation Division for the last 13 years. Any time the City or LAPD is sued civially, we defend. Total job security at this point...LOL. I love my job and enjoy the work. I'm originally from Wyoming, my parents and two of my siblings still reside there. Curt is from Tennessee and that is where is family is at. Both make a nice place for vacations. We are looking to relocate to TN after Curt retires in 3 years. I love Wyoming but he just shudders at the LONG winters. I love to read, watch movies, go hiking, camping & fishing. I am so excited for this journey, don't have a surgery date yet, just beginning the process with Kaiser, should be looking at a January date.
  7. Hi Blondiee! Thanks for replying Gosh, I have so many questions...where to start? I may be incorrect, the classes might be 12 weeks, I thought the Options cordinator told me 6 wks on the phone, but either way......whoo-hoo on your two left!!!! Had to change my orientation date to 10/4 due to a colonoscopy on the 11th of September. So anxious to get the ball rolling... What was your option during the classes, did you do the full liquid diet? How about the 10% were you able to reach it? I've heard people talk about their worry in loosing before the surgery that it might drop their BMI below 40 and they might be refused surgery...any info on this? Do you think you will have your surgery before the first of the year? I'm so exicted for you!!! ok, I've rambled on enough! Kel

14 days out and wow! What an experience

Good morning all I'm glad to hear you are all progressing pretty well. I am just starting my classes with Kaiser. Hoping for a January surgery date. I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago April and I'm expecting alot of the same "pain & gas" issues after the sleeve surgery. How long was/is everyone off work?

    Newbie

Hello and Greetings all. I'm Kelly, happy to meet you. I'm new to the forum. I lurked for a couple of days and have since joined. I am married to a wonderful man & I have a teenage son who is 17 and starting his senior year this week. I work full time, commute 80 miles a day roundtrip for work. I'm short (5' 3") and yes, fat (241). As an adult, my highest weight was 261and my lowest has been 191. I have always had a struggle with my weight, loose, gain, loose, gain. I don't have a surgery date yet, I am with Kaiser in Southern California. Last week I was referred to the West LA bariatric surgery dept. Have yet to hear from them, if nothing by Wed I will call them. I participated in the Kaiser Options program almost two years ago, I completed the Optifast program (16 weeks), lost 40 lbs, have kept about 20 off. I found a lump on my chest about a month ago and went to the doctor, my regular doctor was unavailalbe, so I saw who was available, she informed me that it was a lipoma, or fatty tumor, and continued with if I weren't so fat, I wouldn't have this, and expounded that I should eat more salads, or even chew my fingernails in order to stop gaining weight. Needles to say, I was beyond upset, the assumptions she made about me and my life based on a 10 min visual visit are typical for people who are overweight. I decided right then that I was going to investigate what Kaiser has available for WLS. They offer the sleeve and the roux-en-y gastric bypass, and after researching, I want to have the sleeve. During my research I found this forum and I like the support everyone offers, I like hearing about the good and the bad and I LOVE seeing everyone's success!!! So, there ya have it, Happy Monday!! Kel
