  1. oh, i feel the same way and also am a vegetarian :(

pre-sleeve, i loved salads, all that stuff, maybe a little too much, which is why i got the sleeve. but i'm worried about Protein intake and holding things down. don't feel alone though, i'm trying to get through this, although slowly.

I should not have had the sleeve.. Not a meat fan and cannot stomach any Protein drinks.. Having a difficult time :(( Anyone sleeved that is a vegetarian or having a similar experience? Any suggestions? I was sleeved July 22nd and not able to have salads or berries or nuts yet... Any help would greatly appreciated.

  2. thanks chittick! i'm taking a ppi basically every 24 hours for acid. at 3.5 years out, do you still have that awkward feeling eating, or is it normal (just with restriction)?

That's what I get for hitting enter too quick.. I had a hard time with milky fluids at first.. It slowly backed off but I still can't really drink a glass of milk. My doctor said some people experience a lactose intolerance. See if your doc would recommend a lactose free milk for Protein shakes

  3. ah! when did you get sleeved? when i freaked out about my drainage, i emailed almost everyone in my doctor's office (i'm sure i was a pain), and was prepared to go to my pcp. my husband calmed me down and i got a response the next day.

    i'm so sorry you're uncomfortable!

I have the same struggle, I thin things down and still find myself gagging with different textures. Its even worse now because I have thrush and feel like I have swallowed a cotton ball, what is really irritating me is I called my surgeons office this am and spoke to the nurse twice and no one ever called me back. I just had a mini breakdown over it, I can't drink thicker liquids very well as it is and now I feel like I have a cotton ball in my throat and I actually gag when I cough and they didn't do anything for me. I guess if I am still pissed off Monday at my appt they may hear about it. They may hear about it regardless. I know that if it isn't painful that treatment is rarely done or even needed, but I am uncomfortable.... I don't want to be uncomfortable.

  4. sleeved on the 23rd, started at 207, now down to 185. i think i've had a harder time because 1) i have a low pain tolerance, and 2) i sprung some drainage in my belly button incision (ughh, stomach fold) and has been draining for the last week.

getting Protein is kind of hard because the Isopure drinks seem to coat my throat with a thick film and i haven't been able to keep down milky drinks (i'll get foamies). yesterday was the first day i had issues with feeling weak and dizzy, so that was new! :)

i'm looking forward to being drainage-free and non-acid-reflux soon!

  5. i'm almost 2 weeks out, barely starting on full liquids (as per my dr's schedule), and it's really hard for things like Protein drinks to go down (pure Protein, etc). anything milky is really hard to take down, whereas it's relatively easy to drink Clear Liquids. is this normal?

also, does that feeling ever go away? of eating something and not feeling it slide down your throat painfully? i read about a lot of post-op people eating solids 3, 6 months down the line - are you able to bites, or will you forever need to chew everything to a mush?

sorry for all the questions. i'm being super paranoid polly today. thanks all!

  6. okay, posting a more detailed post now that i'm out of bed and not vomiting.

it's day 3 now and i've been walking the halls as much as i can. i took the barium test this morning and while it wasn't that bad, the big sips i had to take made me lose all the liquids in my belly the moment i got back to my room. since then it's been a little bit of a challenge to get down any liquids. dr campos says it's because of my esophagus spasming. another dr came in later on and told me it's quite normal to not be able to take things down or even to vomit, but to work on my breathing and it'll be okay. removing the drain wasn't that hard, but it was the best feeling not to have a drain - almost the same as taking that first shower!

i haven't heard anything about nexium or any ppis i'm supposed to take. is that something we're supposed to go do on our own?

  7. Just got sleeved yesterday - I think i read about the pain and nausea but *was not* prepared for that. The hospital was extremely accommodating though, giving me a ton of nausea meds and narcotics to ease the pain. Mostly, that stuff put me to sleep. I woke up this morning feeling a little better, but am still in vague pain near my drain. Drinking the three drinks they gave me has probably been the hardest thing to in my life, ha. I'm hoping this feels better by tomorrow, or by Monday when we leave to go home.

  8. hello! i'm harley - 31, turning 32 in 12 days! i also am scheduled for vsg in 14 days. whew. a little scary.

i've been researching and lurking this board (along with others) for over a year now, and finally decided on making the decision to get this surgery at the beginning of the summer. and i thought, what better way to start off 32 by taking my life back?

i've never been skinny or athletic, and have been overweight as long as i can remember. it was a bad cycle of turning to food when i felt bad, and feeling bad a lot because i was 'the fat kid'. i have a wonderful husband, who is fully supportive of this and is the best help i could possibly have on this journey.

i'm not really sure what else i should be saying, other than i'm a little nervous, a little scared (this will be my first surgery, ever), and well, i guess excited for my birthday? :)
