  1. Just want to add, that although all the things listed my clear your system for the Surgeon to approve you I strongly urge you to be honest with your anesthesiologist. Some of the chemicals in marajuana can change the chemicals they use to put you under. Tell him when you quit and how often you used before. Trust me, you will not be his first patient to tell him ever, I highly doubt you'll be even his first of the day. Please take my word for it but if you're still hesitant, google marajuana and anesthesia. (Warning: only for the strong willed to look up....some of it what you'll read can cause nightmares!)

Good luck and good for you for being open enough to ask, most don't!

  2. Thanks for the input everyone- I feel much less alone. I keep reading these stories of how people feel awesome the first week after surgery and I'm like....why do I not feel awesome!? I also feel weak and kind of wobbly and I can't seem to choke down the Protein shakes in anywhere near the amounts I'm supposed to. Swallowing still feels uncomfortable' date=' but maybe that's just part of the deal for the first week or so.

I hope everyone starts feeling better soon! :)[/quote']

I was sleeved 8/28. My recovery was OK, but I wouldn't call it great. liquids were such a problem in the beginning. I was lucky to get down 1/2 a Protein shake and even then, that took me hours. I found I tolerated Water better if it was flavored with MIO or Crystal Light, or better yet, a splash of G2 Gatoraide. I also really like sugar free Popsicles. I even froze my 'left over' Protein Shakes and ate them as Popsicles. I was like that for the first 7-9 days, then, truly, it got easier. Day by day, sip by sip. Now, 18 days out, I am drinking two 30g Protein Shakes a day and drinking at least 62oz of Water, plus a few bites of an allowed meal. I wasn't sure, on day 4, that I would ever get here. Just keep trying new things, new ways, new textures and tempatures until you find something that feels less painful. Then stick with that for a few days and then try again.

    Good luck!

  3. I was sleeved on 8/30 and left the hospital on 9/1. Dr ordered one week on clear fluids (no protein). I kind of started purées on Sunday' date=' but it's not going well. I'm not getting my 64 oz fluids and I'm definitely not hitting 60 g Protein. I found one Protein Shake (Click Espresso) I can tolerate in terms of taste and have realized that its responsible for my urgent diarrhea -- so it's back to the drawing board. Good news is I'm down to 280 lbs today (that's 21 lbs post-surgery).

I'm going to try nectar Unflavored with SF pudding later tonight. Anyone try that?

Also, what's the word on baby food? Anyone use it?

My Magic Bullet died on me, so I'm waiting for my replacements: a B&D food chopper and an Oster Beehive blender. They should be here tomorrow. Yayy![/quote']

I just started with the Nectar unflavored the other day. I mix one scoop and one crystal light packet in a bottle of Water. I love it! If you don't smell it you can't really tell its not just regular crystal light. Plus, unlike Isopure unflavored, the nectar doesn't hurt my stomach at all. I usually have a costco Premier Protein ready to drink chocolate shake for Breakfast then one of the nectar water bottles (only 10g of protein) at lunch time then another around 3pm. That takes me to 50g of protein and I try to 'eat' my final 5-10g. Usually Soup or yogurt.

  4. The pain from that post passed and I have been fine for the past few days. Still a bit tired but I've been able to do some chores, errands and keep up with the kids. Usually needing a nap each day but that'll get better too.

    Hope you're feeling better too!

  5. Belize, you'll handle this fine after all that! I've never had surgery, had three simple births and a total wuss to pain. I'm having a 'painful' recovery compared to my group (30 or so sleeved the same month) and I'm really not in nor ever was in pain. I kept the pain pump in the hospital as long as I could and even asked for more but it made me really nauseous so I stopped that. Once they switched me to the liquid lor-tab that was all I needed. I was sleeved on 8/28, a Wednesday, came home Friday. I slept in the recliner Friday night and kept my pain meds every 4 hours. Saturday I couldn't get up with out help because of sore abs but was comfortable going to every 6 hours for meds. That night I was able to sleep 1/2 the night in bed with my hubby but couldn't turn or change positions so he helped me move to the recliner. Sunday I woke up pain free, sore but not at all bad. I took meds around 2pm and took a nap. That night with a 1/2 dose of meds I was able to sleep all night in bed and was able to turn myself once. By Monday I could get up out of bed and the recliner on my own. Since then, I've been able to do some house chores (dishes, vacuuming, pick up, etc) plus drive my kids around all with out meds. I'm currently taking a 1/2 dose around 3 to alleviate soreness and enable me to help kids with homework and make dinner then a full dose to go to sleep. I anticipate dropping the mid day meds tomorrow or Friday.

Sorry if that's too much detail but I thought it might help to give you a picture of how a 'painful' recovery is. Most of my group stopped pain meds the day they were released or 1-2 days after. I gather that that's the norm.

Lastly, remember, anticipation of pain is almost always worse than actual. Maybe ask for an anti anxiety for post op. confusing anxiety and actual pain can make treatment worse.

Good luck and keep us posted! Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions. :)

  6. I was sleeved 8/28 and I am thinking I want some variety while making sure I meet Protein goals once I start eating.... So I'm leaning toward purchasing the Isopure no carb unflavored protein powder' date=' has anyone tried it? I like the flavored ready to drink Isopure but I'm iffy about unflavored powder. Any suggestions?[/quote']

I was really disappointed in the isopure unflavored protein. It takes a huge scoop and is really milky. I tried it in Tomato Soup, bleh. It also really hurt my sleeve. I couldn't stand it mixed with oj, apple juice or Water with crystal light. Sorry! I just ordered Syntrax Nectar unflavored as I heard it is much better plus its on sale on Amazon for 1/2 price.

  7. You're not alone. I've been really wiped out since surgery on the 28th. Came home Friday night and really have been just alternating between asleep and barley awake. I am only barely getting enough liquids in thanks to crystal light, diluted apple juice and Popsicles. I consider it a good day if I can get one Protein full Protein Shake in. Tried some broth last night with unflavored protein and spent the entire night uncomfortable. Then the panic attacks set in. What if my discomfort is because of infection? Or a blood clot? What if I'm not trying hard enough to move and causing my own issues? I ended up waking in place for 45 min's while watching a show at 1045pm last night just to ease some of my worries. Today I still feel really sore but pushed myself to get out of the house and walk around some shops with my kids for an hour. I'm about 40 oz into my Water and dreading 'dinner.'

Feeling really grateful that I am not in any pain just adjustment phase. Trying to stay positive and grateful and not let my anxieties get to me.

  8. Same here, can't stand broth! I'm no where near 64oz but enough to keep me hydrated. I've been fine until last night, my stomach is really sore and it feels like my whole body is vibrating. I feel really tight in my entire abdominal cavity. I'm sitting now with a heat pack on my whole stomach and sipping some hot tea, hopefully that will help.

  9. I'm getting really nervous! Im filling out my advanced directive forms and such. I've needed to do it for a long time but right now, with the pending surgery, its making me face all my worst fears.

My pre-op testing is tomorrow and I feel like there is so much I wanted to prepare before this weekend. My last weekend before surgery!

How's everyone else? Nervous? How are you doing on the pre-op diet? I'm trying but like most diets in my life, if I know I could cheat, I do, just a bit. Makes me disappointed in myself. Can't wait till I physically can't!

  10. I'm seeing Dr Chassion too. I love their office, their pre-op seminar was fun, informative and hosted by The head nurse at Northwest hospitals bariatric department. My surgery is on the 28th of this month and although I'm nervous, none of that has to do with Dr Chassion or his team.

I wish you luck in finding your right fit!

  11. Hi! I'm new to the forums but my date is Aug 28th too. I'm really nervous but excited too. I need to lose about 120-130 lbs but I am fortunate to not have any current co-morbidities. Any one else have small children? I have a 12 yr old boy, and two girls, 6 and 5. My son is pretty worried about the surgery and although I know all the risks obesity has I can only tell him so much without making him worry about his grandparents who are also obese. So, I'm trying to help him understand why I'm making this choice for myself, and pray that he understands.

I start my pre-op diet on this upcoming Wednesday. Two shakes a day plus one small high Protein, low carb meal. No Snacks. I think I'll do ok with that, my biggest challenge will be stopping coffee. I love it! I am most looking forward to being able to buy cute underwear. I hate plus size grannie pannies and ugly bras that have straps the size of curtains!

I'd love to hear some others fears, goals, pre-op requirements...etc.
