Deductible
I had to pay the doctor up front also. I paid the hospital on the day of surgery. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I was self pay.

no luck finding a mentor or buddy as of yet
Hi, Pam. I live on the east side of Dallas just past Rockwall. I am just 10 months out and haven't had the kind of problems you're having - yet. I can see it could be easy to lose focus. Does your surgeon offer any support? Have you thought about looking for a local support group? That might be very helpful. I wish you all the best in your efforts to get back on track.

love or hate
Who gives a flip what others think! We did we we had to do - for us! You look amazing, so I suspect there might be some jealousy involved!

Life Changing
I'm very streaky about exercising. Couldn't do anything early on due to a severe gout attack. Was walking 2-1/2 to 3 miles a day until it just got too stinking hot here in Texas. I started out with a relatively low bmi of almost 35. I am now at 25. I am 65, so I didn't want to go much lower for fear of looking like a sharpei.

Surgeon's office meltdown ahead of Monday VSG surgery. What to do?
Do you have faith in your surgeon? It won't be his ding dong staff performing surgery, so if you like the surgeon, stick with him.

65 and over
I like Premiere Protein ready to drink. You can get it at Sam's or Costco. It's the only one I can tolerate. I'm 10 months out and still have a shake for breakfast every day. Good luck with your surgery and let us know how you're doing. You'll find lots of support here!

Anyone want to be fat again?
He'll to the no! I never ever want my weight back. I look too damn good when fully clothed. Only one person sees me naked, and he's not complaining.

I want to hear from others with a lower BMI pre-op
I'm almost 5'1" and weighed 184 at my heaviest, bmi just under 35. At 10 months post op and down 55 lbs and have passed my surgeon's goal as well as my personal goal. Weight loss seems slower if you only look at pounds lost, but percentage of excess weight loss is not. I couldn't be happier with my decision. It has truly changed my life for the better. I have body issues because of my bat wings and midriff roll, but it's a small price to pay. It seems the whole process is easier for those with lower bmi's.

Three Year Sleeveaversary!
Wow! You're doing great. If you're happy with your weight, then mission accomplished! What was your lowest weight? You mentioned improving your eating. What are your problem areas? Sweets? Bread? And when did you start straying toward poor choices.

How life changed 1 year out
So happy for you! You look wonderful!

Be prepared for many, many steps even if self-pay. It takes months.
I was self pay in the USA and I think it took 6 weeks from consultation to completion. Only had to do a stress test and EGD pre op.

65 and over

Where can the moderately obese get this surgery
My bmi was just under 35 and I was sleeved in Dallas. I was Self pay as Insurance wouldn't cover it.

Ditching the protein shakes
My nut and surgeon prefer patients eating real food, but are okay with one protein shake a day. I'm almost 10 months out and usually start my day with a shake for breakfast.
