  1. Thanks for the wishes, Amazon. You're right... I will have to find the "new" normal me. Funny thing about carbs, though.... They've never been my downfall. I've always been a savory kind of gal.....give me a big hunk of steak any day. I even take the top half of the bun off most sandwiches because I prefer the "guts" inside. Unfortunately, steaks come with potatoes, and burgers come with fries, etc. and I'm not one to leave any food on a plate... I'm looking forward to filling up on the good stuff (protein) and hold the fries. Now I just have to figure out the chocolate thing....
  2. Dobeigh and 7 bites, you are my heros! I HATE keeping track, counting calories/carbs/whatever and I'm not a fan of exercise. I am active at work and like to do outdoor activities on weekends, just not "workout" type exercise. I don't even own a scale and plan to weigh myself at work when I remember to. I read so many posts of successful sleevers that go to the gym, track everything on myfitnesspal, etc. but I work 60-70 hours a week and don't want to spend my little free time monitoring my diet for the rest of my life. I realize the sleeve is a tool and won't do the work for me, but I really just want to live a normal life. Reading your posts gives me hope that that is possible.

    Ideas for liquid stage..?

    There are lots of high protein soups out there (just google it) or get unflavored protein powder and mix it with any kind of broth or favorite drink (just make sure the broths are below 130-140 degrees or the powder will clump and the protein denatures. I read another post where someone was making their own SF Popsicles and adding protein powder.
  4. I defer to the above link for the history of the VSG for weight loss purposes. However, people have been getting all or part of their stomachs removed for other reasons (cancer, ulcer) for at least 50-60 years. I looked into these cases when researching getting the sleeve in order to assess long term complications. The biggest findings were Vitamin and mineral deficiencies... B12, folate, Iron, Calcium, and Vitamin D, in particular. So take all your vitamin supplements and get annual bloodwork. As for increased cancer risk, GERD (a potential post-op complication) can lead to esophageal cancer if uncontrolled/untreated.

    Every Page Is An Error!

    I can't even submit the errors I find... Submitting via the link at the top of every page gives me an error saying I need to resubmit details. And when I tried to email the errors, the message was returned saying I wasn't authorized to send to that email. WTF?! Then I thought I' try the app instead of the regular website and after writing and submitting a long winded reply to a thread, I got an error saying I wasn't authorized to submit a reply. (Yes, I was logged in) Again...WTF?!?! Did the website creators bother to check ANYTHING before they started it up?
  6. The report technical error link doesn't even seem to work. When I submit an issue it comes back with "Oops" and tells me too fill out the detail section again. I ended up emailing the problem to administrator, but the more time I spend on the site, the more problems I run in to....getting too long to list
  7. Since it's touted to be beneficial in healing ulcers, anyone try it post op to help soothe your new sleeve and help heal your incision? Anyone ask their nut/surgeon about it? I'm going to, but Im still two months pre-op and just curious.
  8. Omeprazole is a PPI. And band07, yes, this is available over the counter. My doc has his patients on it 60 days post op.
  9. I'm pre-op and discovered this a couple weeks ago. I've put it on my postop snack list (bacon....mmmmm). I do , however, think the fat part is a little gooey and gross, so I just peel off that part, give it to my dog and eat the meaty part. So really, I'm getting all the good stuff (protein) with none of the bad (fat). Right? Right??????

  12. Holy airline tickets! The long drive back from Spokane would suck, but if you can cut a chunk off the cost it's definitely worth it. (Living in the middle of nowhere has it's perks but flying anywhere isn't one of them. And I'm sure you have weather issues, too) Salt Lake City is always the best price for me, but unless it's at least $200 cheaper, not worth the drive time and gas. I'm scheduling my surgery around my work, too. Jan or February are the only months I could possibly take off. I'm shooting for jan to give me extra healing time to be able to get on my horse by April fingers crossed. If you end up in jan, let me know, I'm going 1/10. Sorry fellow posters for getting a little off-topic.
  13. Either Jackson Hole, WY (I'm right on the border) or Idaho Falls. Still watching prices. I'd prefer Jackson since it's a little closer and I'm driving myself but winter flights tend to jack up because of the ski resort. Not to mention the possibility of delays/cancellations due to weather. Love to hear how your experience goes.

    Possible Stricture ahhh!

    Have you had problems (vomiting) from the start or did it come on later? Have you been in contact with your surgeon about your issues? Do you feel your local doctors delayed diagnosis because you had surgery in Mexico? Sorry for all the questions but this is one of my fears..... I sure hope you get relief soon.

  18. I haven't been sleeved yet, but had BM issues after my neck fusion surgery several years ago. Had the surgery on a Monday and didn't poo till the following Sunday. I was eating minimal and mostly soft stuff cause my throat hurt and taking miralax everyday. That was the first surgery I ever had so didn't know what was "normal". I actually wasn't surprised, though because both anesthesia and pain meds will slow down your GI motility.

  20. This is just so weird to me....If she told you she's coming, it's not really a surprise. So why not just tell you when so you can make plans. I've made surprise visits home before but my parents had no idea I was coming. The whole point is the surprise. If I told my mom "I'm coming home sometime between thanksgiving and New Years" then she wouldn't have screamed and cried and jumped up and down when I showed up on Christmas Eve. Seriously.... this all sounds more like a control thing rather than a surprise thing. Edit... Just reread the part you posted about her being young and having a big mouth. So I'm probably wrong about the control thing. She's just young, a little self absorbed and so excited she can't even keep her own secret a secret... Good luck with your surgery and I Hope you are recovered enough to enjoy her visit.

    So sorry about your brother. I lost my brother last summer and I'm still very sad . I can't imagine going through your physical stress at the same time as this emotional hit. You are very strong and an inspiration. Hope your infection clears up soon. And losing over a pound a day is great.

    Can you still eat in restaurants?

    I'm pre-op, too, but I've been trying to train my brain for post-op. when I go out I check out the menu to see what I will order "next time". With next time being, of course WAY post op after Clear liquids, full liquids, puree'd stage, etc. Ugh! And since I hate to cook, all the leftovers in to-go boxes are a major bonus
