  1. They offered to discharge me the next day(and my surgery was at 230pm) but I was self pay so I opted to get the most for my money and stayed another night! Was discharged around 11 the next day and only bc I requested they help me shower bc I had a pain pump in and wanted to know how to handle it after!
  2. I brought more than needed, bc my hospital provided alot(Chapstick, hand sanitizer, shampoo, conditioner and soap, tooth brush and paste and a small travel type pillow) Here's what I actually used: A few pairs of clean underwear(they allowed me to wear them the second am) PJ bottoms for under my gown which I was required to wear House cost for walking halls My own pillow from home(different color pillow) Travel pillow(I brought a firm small pillow for coughing and standing, but the gave me the perfect one too) Brush, deodorant iPad, IPhone & chargers A magazine The BEST thing I brought was my ear plugs!!!! So happy since I was outside of nurses station! Also not sure if your doctor used Lovenox post op for you at home, but learn my lesson no one informed me it needed to be ordered, I figured they'd give me a script at discharge, thankfully the office had enough samples for me! They dropped the ball BIG TIME! I was not permitted to use any gas x strips they provided me with simethicone there(liquid if I remember)

    Cottage cheese... yuck!

I love cottage cheese plain with s&p, but my fav is a sprinkling of dry hidden valley ranch dressing mix! I bought a container almost the size of a parm cheese can. Super yum, matter of fact I think that's dinner

Having A Hard Time On Pre-Op Diet

It is very hard I remember how lonely I felt those two weeks bc I would retreat to my bedroom while my hubby & kids ate! I also do the cooking so that was a challenge. I didn't expect my family not to eat while I was on it, seems unfair, but if they were having junk I'd ask them to go eat at the restaurant...we went to Costco and they wanted pizza so I shopped while they ate. You should expect support and their sensitivity for your situation but they have to eat, try to keep yourself busy that's my best advice! Also if you cook I recommend doing a bunch in one day then they can reheat it! I made a bunch of taco meat, chili and spaghetti sauce, that kept them almost a week. hang in there, it will be over soon and post op it's SO much easier!!!
  9. Yes sadly, but we see it as an investment into our future! Mine was high compared to a lot, but we live just outside of DC, 10k to the hospital and 5k to my surgeon then another 5k in pre and post follow up appts also figured in my preop testing which my insurance didn't cover either. My total was just under 20k.
  10. Oh my word you look like you could be the daughter of your heavier self! Amazing transformation congrats! Hope I have as much success!

Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...

I was sleeved Nov 20 no complications to speak of, had some bleeding from my belly button incision, but it turned out to be a hematoma under my skin(you could see the swelling) doc said it was normal and from stitching the muscle, it would resolve in a few more days and it sure did! Other problem was my lovenox shots were causing a ton of pain and bruising in my left side(and may have attributed to that hematoma) but once I finished it has all resolved! Working through a tiny but of nausea in the mornings only with my water, but honestly none of this is even a blip on the radar! I am so thankful at how things have gone! Minimal pain, fluids easily, found some proteins I enjoy, smooth transition to mushy food(yay)! I'm losing slowly and I'd like to think I'm ok with that, just have to keep reminding myself this is not a sprint it's a marathon! Starting Weight 211, Surgery Weight 202.5, Current weight 190.5.

Rate Of Weight Loss, Those Starting Under 200 Lb?

I started at 202(day of surgery, 211 preop diet) and I'm nearly 3 weeks out and only down 10.5 lbs! Scale hasn't moved in 5 days! Not sure if bc I was smaller my stall maybe is earlier than the infamous 3 weeker?! Trying to stay positive I am eating a fraction of what I used to, it will eventually have to come off by laws of Science. Now I see how hard it would've been to continue diets bc I get to this point and give up and thanks to my trusty sleeve, I cannot!

    Post-Op Tray Picture

I didn't :/ but I had little tiny plastic containers(like Jell-O shot containers) one with protein jello which was rotten and repulsive and was more like fruity pudding with a twist of a medicinal taste ewwww! I requested that never to make it on my tray again! Then the same size of protein enriched cranberry juice that was good! Lastly some protein chicken broth which was actually yummy too! And that's it!

    Peanut Butter?

Woops hit send too quick! Most stores around me carry it but at one point it was hard to find and I ordered it on Amazon! I'd always check with your doctor first tho!
  19. CrissyRing77

    Peanut Butter?

It's up to your doctor, mine did allow it(I'm almost 3 weeks out on mushies now) but mine dietician told us no on the reduced fat bc too much sugar, she recommended all natural peanut butter with no more than 3 ingredients on the label lol! I found my store brand has one and it has one ingredient peanuts . Another product that is awesome for shakes is PB2 it's defatted peanut butter that is in powder form perfect to add to shakes!
  20. Hey guys I'm just two days into my mushy phase(surg 11/20) so I don't have a ton of mushy recipes in my arsenal yet, wondering if anyone could share a good one, so I can take it to share tonight?? It can be holiday themed or regular, just needs to be suited for the phase I am in! My office terms mushy as anything already mushy or that can turn to mush in the mouth!! Thanks a ton, feel free to post many so I can start eating a variety too lol!
  21. Oh also forgot to say that I forgot my salad at home! Awesome right!? Hummus from the store it was!
  22. Thanks Y'all I made a chicken avocado salad bc I live an hour away and the bake would be cold, but it's in my menu for dinner Saturday night! YUM! Thanks guys!

    Anybody Else Cheating?

I had my surgery on Nov 20, just advanced to mushy and am on that for another 6 weeks, before regular food, do I think that's a bit over the top compared to most other doctors, yes considering I have to wait 8 weeks compared to some who go at 4, but I chose my surgeon bc he is well known, little complications and the director of bariatrics at a center of excellence, I'll go with what he says bc he knows better than me! So far my biggest cheat was two cheezits instead of a saltine (which I am allowed) even then I was riddled with guilt lol! You are an adult choose as you wish, but please be careful! Best of luck, this is not an easy road for any of us, but we are all here to help & support each other!

    Frustrated... (Tmi Warning)

Oh this is terrible, I'm am soooo sorry you are having to go through all of this, just seems so unfair! I pray things start to turn soon and they get this figured out! My thoughts are demand to be admitted to the hospital and not leave until they have you fixed or at least a game plan! Hang in there, you seem to still have your whits about ya, maybe have a sit down with your hubby, this is the time he needs to step up...hugs for you, please keep us updated! Edited for spelling lol!
