  1. Well, I had my surgery yesterday, and today I am sitting in my hospital room feeling really, really good. I'm actually surprised at how well I'm feeling right now (knock on wood). When I was still pre-op and researching as much as I could, I really appreciated the people who wrote about their experiences, especially those that went to my doctor. Knowing what to expect was SO helpful for me. So, I promised myself I would do the same thing. I'm only one day out from surgery, so I will continue to update, but I can tell you this much: What everyone says is true. The hospital is small, clean, modern and ALL the people are nice and helpful. Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos each come in and talk to you separately for as long as you need (before surgery). They have each come and checked on my afterwards also. My anesthesiologist was amazing also (Andre?). I had surgery two years ago and woke up with severe nausea and dry heaving. I told this to Andre, and he said he would do his best to control that, and he did. I didn't wake up with nausea and I haven't felt any yet (and I started drinking Clear Liquids a few hours ago). My mother is staying in the room with me, and there is plenty of room. There is a couch in the room that she sleeps on. I am going to try to post some pics here. That's about it for now.... very happy to be on the other side of this surgery and SO excited to get started with my new lifestyle!! :-)

  2. I was just sleeved yesterday by Dr. Aceves and a, feeling pretty darn good... A little more pain today but I have been pretty active... Dr. Aceves even high dived me lol... Any questions please ask!! It's not any easy decision to make and I was sooooo scared

Hi there, so glad to hear you had a good experience, so far! It's definitely a difficult decision and I'm in the very nervous phase right now because I'm two days from surgery. Thank you for checking in! Hope it continues to go well for you.

  3. I'm still pre-op, so I can't speak from experience yet, but many people said it's best to try your first post-op drink at home if you can. That way if it has a weird effect on you (like it makes you sick) you'll be at home and not in front of a party full of people. :-)

  4. Everyone doesn't have to be so mean or sarcastic to the op. If her profile is correct, she's 19 years old.... I know I didn't know everything at 19, and I think it's brave of her to post her questions on here. In posting again in food and Nutrition, she was following the advice of a veteran poster on her last thread.

In any case, rmma1000: The main thing you need to realize is that by eating ramen, you are not only hurting your chances at weight loss, but you could possibly do damage to your sleeve as well. Definitely not something you want to risk. If you didn't get specific post-op diet instructions from your surgeon, then you can certainly search these forums for good information. As the others have said, Protein first, then veggies as you can fit them in. Check out some of the recipe forums for ideas, and be careful!

  5. You need a passport to get back into the U.S. from Mexico. I'm having my surgery with Dr. Aceves, and here is the paragraph from the information they sent me:

"Passports are now required to get back into the US after traveling to Mexico. If your passport has not arrived, proof that you have applied for it along with your birth certificate and ID (driver’s license) are enough to let you get back into the US. Remember you can also expedite your passport. "

  6. I've been doing the same thing. My surgery is on Aug 17th, so I'm two weeks away, and about two weeks ago I started eating horribly! Just fattening stuff, and more than I need to eat. I'm sure I've gained weight in this last two weeks, and I refuse to get on the scale and check. I also keep telling myself I won't be able to eat this stuff again... but I know that is just an excuse. My doctor wants me to do a low carb, high Protein pre-op diet for 7 days before surgery. I've decided to start it tomorrow so I'm doing it almost two weeks before surgery. I think that's the only way I'm going to get my eating somewhat under control. Does your doctor want you to do a pre-op diet?

  7. Honestly not sure if I'm supposed to do this or this website or not, but I'll try. I'm scheduled for surgery with Dr. Aceves on August 17th, and have been communicating with Nina in his office. Here is her information. I just copied and pasted it out of one of her emails. Also, if you just email through the website, she contacts you directly.

  8. Hi there,

I have not yet had my surgery yet, but I am scheduled for Aug 17th with Dr. Aceves. I did some research and I can only tell you why I decided to go with Aceves.... I'm sure others have their own reasons. He is more expensive than some of the other Mexican doctors, it's true. But I decided to go with him because of his stats (very low complication rate, and high weight loss rate), and also the fact that I will be staying in the hospital for three days after the surgery. Some of the other doctors have you stay in a hotel after surgery and they come check on you. I was uneasy about going to Mexico (and honestly, never in a million years thought I'd consider it), but after doing a bunch of research I realized there are some very safe options down there. At least no riskier than many American facilities. Also, just one more factor, I live in California and Aceves was convenient for me geographically... although that is by far not the biggest reason I chose him. There are plenty of people on these forums who chose the other doctors and were happy with their surgeries. I will for sure be posting after I have mine, and can give a first-hand experience account. But for now, those are the reasons I decided to go with Aceves.
