    Banded 12/18 Not hungry

12/18 for me! I'm not very hungry either. I'll think that I am, even feel a growl in there, but can't tell if it's just some of the lovely gas I'm still dealing with! SF Popsicles and fudgsicles have been my best friends so far.I'm soooo over broths, and tomato soup which is a favorite of mine didn't even taste good when I tried it! My drs office called this am and told me to begin fat free yogurts without fruit chunks and thin oatmeal with cinnamon or jelly mixed in,sf puddings.... I'm working on the oatmeal as I type...funny I've never really chewed this stuff before...it's interesting...feel better soon everyone!

    Banded on Tuesday

My surgery was the 18th, I'm still taking my liquid Lortab at bedtime onlyfor tonite and last night. I was taking it as often as it said the 2 days after surgery, I also was given flexeril for muscle pain. I had no hernia, but she did find a tear in my esophagus that she fixed. My belly is pretty sore still and ITCHY!!Good sign I know.
  3. Hi everyone.... Well, yesterday I jumped on the band wagon! Everything went fine, in the OR at 8am and home in my bed at 1:30  I feel ok, just my belly is sore from the stitches and muscle manipulation. Other than that I really don't feel any different yet. I've been drinking the Special K protein H20 and eating SF jello cups, well ate 1 jello cup-took a while. Just finished some nice warm coffee. Planning a nap now after a dose of my liquid Lortab. Broth for lunch and dinner I guess. Take care,

    Surgery Prep?

Thanks all....and how true, why are they all so darn different with everything?!?!! I'm not doing the enema, heck I barely go as it is being on shakes for a month! Unreal..and good luck to you too on Thurs!!! YAY the finish line!!!:blushing:

    The Water Rule

I was told an hour before and after or the food washed thru and you get hungry too soon. Don't want that!
  10. Yippie.....I can officially say my surgery is next week!! Thursday the 18th to be exact  This AM was the final 2 appointments, the nutritionist and a final meeting with my surgeon to go over all the details of the BIG DAY!! All the pre-op tests looked good. I was a bit worried about the second round of blood they tested last week since the first group done back in Oct. showed I was positive for H-Pylori...who knew! So after two fun weeks of many antibiotics I guess it's a done deal! Also a bit of good news, my surgery time has changed from noon to 7:45 AM....less time to stress and be hungry! Anticipation is definately building now! Heck, even that darn Medifast tastes better today (not)!
  11. It is a very simple procedure, you sit in a chamber and follow the respiratory techs instructions as to when and how long to breathe. It gets tiring, you really have to puff hard at times! I had blood gasses drawn the same time. It didn't hurt at all like I had thought it would. Maybe I got lucky and had a great tech do the poke! Good luck.

Pre Op fasting question please help

It's usually nothing by mouth, including water from midnight the night before. Not for diet reasons but to reduce the risk of vomiting under anesthia and aspirating. Very dangerous stuff. I'd skip it all together.
  13. As a nurse who has spent time in the OR I can tell you you are never left exposed for any procedure. Only the part that is being operated on is uncovered, the rest is covered with blue surgical drapes. Nursing and OR techs take care of all that before the surgeon enters the room. And why an abdominal procedure would be performed between ones legs remains a mystery to me! I have only seen the surgeon at your side for abdominal work. Someone trying to scare you? Relax, you'll be in la-la land and not have a care in the world

    drinking and eating

I am preparing my self for this new way of life as well. I was given strict instructions to only drink an hour before and an hour after so the food isn't washed right thru making you hungry sooner. Gosh I know I won't want that!
  17. I feel your pain!! My pre-op is also for a month. I've made it 2 & 1/2 weeks so far,and its the toughest thing I've ever had to do!! As for the broth, I asked my dr about that and also a small green salad and was given the ok.... 2 broths per day and one salad with fat free spray drsg. Wendys side salad is just 35 calories and of course no fat and it's all mostly water. I have one at work when everyone else is eating.Helps a lot. I think the broth is iffy with some due to the high sodium content. I do enjoy it I must say! Going to bed hungry is the worst feeling. But I always feel good when I wake up and know that I made it another day! Hang in there....

    What to tell work?

How about hernia repair? I have told all about my plan, and thankfully have gotten no negative remarks. I am a nurse, maybe that's why??!? Who knows. Good luck to you

    Seminar

Actually I had visited this site for a couple of months before my seminar back in Sept so most of what the Dr spoke of was familiar to me. I can't say enough about how informative and helpfull this website is! Jot down any questions you may have and bring them with you as we were given a Q&A session. He just went over both surgeries, bypass and Lapband, we handed in our paperwork and the office got in touch with us to schedule an appt a couple of weeks after. The rest is as they say history! From one appointment to another for the past 6 weeks...almost there!! Good luck.

    No pre-op die?

Mine is very limited. 4 weeks of Medifast shakes, 5 per day for a total of 500 calories. It's the toughest thing I've had to do. I'm also allowed a small salad with a hint of fat free drsg. Wendys has a great side salad at 35 calories that has been a lifesaver at work when everyone else is chewing something! I have cheated a couple times with some baby carrots and shredded wheat squares just to kill that emptyness in my belly. Less than 2 weeks to go!! YAY!!!

    Psych Eval

Sorry it is such an ordeal for you. Gosh mine was about 20 minutes long and I was out of there! Best of luck.
  22. I feel your pain and completely understand. I am on day 13 of a month long liquid diet, 5 shakes a day. I'm doing well, pretty much sticking to it, it by far is the toughest thing I've ever had to do. I was told I could have 4 oz of turkey and a cup of veggies on T-day. Let's just say I had a spoonful of everything and even a sliver of pie! I have 2 and 1/2 weeks to go still. I'm sure there will be another slip up, I am afterall human with an eating problem not superwoman! Hence the reason I'm even doing this. I asked my dr why such a strick diet when others have none, and was told it was a center of excellence with zero morbidity rate in 25 years doing gastric surgeries, so it's a valid reason. She did tell me that in all of the operations she has performed she has never had to do an open procedure. Hang in there, you can and will do it!!
  23. I started the process in July, surgery is 12/18. It was mostly waiting for the initial seminar and first meeting with the surgeon that took the longest. Since the end of Oct it has been one appointment after another for all of the various tests that are required. At least it makes the time go by! I have a 4 week liquid Medifast pre-op as well, can't wait for this phase to end! I guess each center is different, but it's definatley not a fast process, good luck!

    How much is too much?

I am finishing my 2nd week on Medifast shakes, 5 per day and a small tossed salad for supper. I was told no artificial sweetners in any form as they increase appetite.Maybe some baby carrots and fat free drsg? Good luck!
  25. Hi, My surgery is the same day! Best of luck on your new journey!
