I had a drain like that, but they removed it before I left the hospital. The bulb kept getting in my way. I am amazed and impressed you could remove it yourself!
-
Well, this doesn't seem so bad compared...... But on day 5 post op I ate an entire sleeve of Ritz crackers. After two week pre op liquid diet, I needed some crunch!

Did anyone have a drain installed for several days post op?I had a drain for a couple of days, but they removed it when I was discharged from the hospital. I am 3 days post op, Clear Liquids for a week, then a week of full liquids. Today, I was about 1/2 Water and 1/2 clear Liquid Protein. Tomorrow I will try to get more Protein in.

I'm a 23rd also' date=' from pioneer, Ohio. Good luck to you![/quote']
I am the 23rd too! Charlotte, NC. One more day!

2 more days! And I fell off my pre op diet today. I hope it does not make my surgery and recovery harder. I feel pretty ashamed of myself. Up until today I had kept my calories under 1300, carbs under 100 and had eaten only Protein Shakes, lean Protein and non starchy vegetables. I was overcome today by Cheezits and a cupcake. I am till under 1300 calories, but I am hungrier than I was on the days I stuck to my protein shakes. I used the Unjury shakes today and they don't have as much protein as the others I have been drinking. Should I tell my surgeon?

I am on the 23rd also - I have been waiting so long, I am not too worried - just anxious for it to be over !

I'm having a hard time with being hungry too. Today I've already had 68g of Protein and still feel like I'm starving and every time I turn around my friends on Facebook are talking about food' date=' posting food, or eating food, plus I never paid attention to how many food commercials were on tv until now!! The only thing keeping me going right now is knowing my surgery is on the line if I don't do it! If anyone has any suggestions on getting through this...I'm totally open to them!!![/quote']
I added Protein Powder to some Tomato Soup. Also, I have been drinking a lot of chamomile tea. I can have non starchy veg anytime so that helps a lt. I am sick to death of Protein Shakes.
I keep reminding myself of the post from the woman who felt really good after surgery and attributed it to following her pre op diet.

So my surgery went well yesterday.... Still in the hospital resting.. My tummy is pretty sore and extremely swollen. Walking around has been pretty easy' date=' the worst part is trying to sit down or get back up.... Luckily the hospital beds make it easier to lift you up. I have not administered pain medicine very often and they turned my auto med thing off so if I need pain meds they will brig them to me. I did take a shower on my own.. It's just a little difficult getting dressed without any assistance. Good luck to everyone else doing their surgery... Remember don't over drink your liquids cause you will feel miserable.[/quote']Thanks MandyNoel! It really helps to hear other people's recovery stories. It makes me less nervous.

Hi' date=' I will be sleeved on September 18th. I am really excited and scared and every other emotion that goes with it. My surgery is less than two weeks from my initial appointment with the doctor on September 5th. I really have to move fast to fill all the requirements. Night of initial appointment had to start 2 week diet. A few days later went for gallbladder tests and upper GI test, Thursday go for pre-op class and register at hospital with more bloodwork. Then the following Wednesday morning is surgery. I am from a small town in Louisiana[/quote']Wow - lucky you! I have been working on the since February or March. I just want to be on the other side now.

I'm on the same diet' date=' when and where are you scheduled for, I'm sept 16th in philly[/quote']
I am Sept 26 in Charlotte.

Good thoughts and prayers for everyone having surgery today!

I started my 2 week pre-op diet today too. It's 5 Protein Shakes per day and I can have broth or sugar free popsicles too. I'm already sick of Protein shakes. But' date=' like you, I keep telling myself it's only 2 weeks (even though 2 weeks feels like an eternity right now).
Is your surgery the 23rd also?[/quote']
Dallasgirl - yes I am - in Charlotte - we will have to compare notes!

Made it thru surgery! Took about 2 hoursHad the sleeve & hernia. Doing ok' date=' on oxygen about 2 hours after, some gas pain, went to the bathroom. Already & up on my feet walking in my room twice. Still light headed, so they said no laps quite yet. It's still early. So there's still a lot that could happen. Time will tell. Just remember while in the hospital to Breath Deep as you can, it helps with the gas pain. Move you feet while in bed or sitting, helps prevent clots. & walk ASAP
Good Luck to everyone that's doing the surgery today. & any other time.[/quote']
Congrats on making it through your surgery! Thanks for sharing your experience, it really helps.
I started my pre op diet today - 3 - 4 Protein Shakes per day, and non starchy veggies. I am a little hungry, but I keep telling myself "I will NOT starve to death, an there are lots of people who live everyday on less than I'm eating. And it is only for 2 weeks.

I am on the 23rd also - I start my pre op diet tomorrow.

For everyone who has slipped on their diet - I got this from a WW leader and it has really helped me -
"Lapses become failures only when they successfully intimidate you into stopping your weight reduction program. Those who are ultimately most successful in sustaining weight loss learn from their lapses instead of being intimidated by them. The best thing to do when lapses occur is to go to sleep that night and wake up the next day recommitted to following your weight loss program. "

I'm back' date=' my surgery on Tuesday went very well according to Dr. Reich. 2-weeks on the pre-op diet reduced my liver's size making the operation a "breeze". Woke up in recovery without a foley and was admitted to recovery by 5 o'clock. Needless to say I was still groggy from the anesthesia and NPO. My friendly morphine drip took over pain management as the anesthesia wore off.Wednesday morning I passed my barium swallow x-ray leak test and was granted liquids. Parched, I attacked the "broth" like a man lost in the desert - drinking too much too soon and paying the pain price. Having learned my lesson, I slowed down on the liquids to 3 oz/hr. My morphine drip was still there to take the EDGE off my pain and lull me to sleep. I also has a fast flowing saline IV pumping me full to avoid dehydration.
Thursday morning came bright and early. My friendly morphine drip and IV went back to storage and I prepared for discharge. My doctor's team briefed me on post-op meds for indigestion, nausea, and my old meds. I was ready to take my new stomach home and begin my re-training. Eventually I was able to get to sleep, using a small pillow to support my abdomen.
This morning I awoke with limited gas (CO2) pains and began day-1 of my clear liquid diet despite the growling from down below. I have started doing my walking laps to take care of the associated uncomfortable digestion that feels like my stomach is churning. No regrets and have misplaced 2-3 pounds - likely the 80% of my stomach that was removed on Tuesday.
All in all, I have no regrets, so far, in taking the leap to have a sleeve.
Note: My Doctor told me that my pre-op dieting was directly responsible for my operation being less complicated and likely to speed up my recovery!!![/quote']
This is great news! I'm happy to hear everything went so well for you. I start my liquid diet on Monday and this is just what I need to hear to keep me motivated!
-
I am Sept 23 as well! Had my last pre op appt today. When the nurse weighed me she said "this is the last time you will weigh this much". Wow, I can hardly imagine.
I start 2 week liquids on Monday - I get 3 oz of Lean Protein twice in the two weeks and all the non starchy veg I want. I am going to make a pot of WW 0 point veg Soup and eat that in addition to my Protein Shakes. It tastes really good and is filling.
