November buddies where are you?
MindiJean replied to soonerorlater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm scheduled for November 20. I have all my pre-op stuff on October 28, along with my three year scans and xrays for bladder cancer follow-up. Just to add to my stress level, of course!! Having mine done at Froedtert in Milwaukee. Has anyone else gone there? -
I lost about 3/4 of my hair three years ago to chemo. I used Biotin 10,000 and sprayed my scalp with aloe vera juice and used Nioxin shampoo. So, although I'm not pleased at the thought of losing my hair again (sleeving November 20), I know it will grow back quickly, and mine grew back a lot thicker and wavy.

Thank goodness my Nut doesn't want me drinking protein drinks. I have the added issue of not being able to handle any "fake" sweeteners except for Stevia. I've only found one that I can use, and it's expensive. The Jay Robb vanilla egg white and plain egg white.

My Post Op Diet Seems Less Strict Than Most Others
MindiJean replied to Squisha's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Interesting. For my sleeve, the hospital will be starting me on pureed foods before discharge! -
Two and a half years ago, I had open surgery to remove my bladder and uterus, due to bladder cancer. I had a new bladder "built" from my intestines. I went into the surgery thinking it would be done laproscopically but they couldn't and had to do an open surgery, due to my previous scarring from an emergency appendectomy years back. I spent 12 hours in the operating room and 12 days in the hospital. My surgery is scheduled for November 20, and the surgeon has said that he does 99% of his sleeve surgeries laproscopically. But I'm worried. If they couldn't do my other surgeries lap, is this one going to be any different? Should I plan on having more time in the hospital?

Open surgery anyone?
MindiJean replied to MindiJean's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my annual cancer scans and xrays the same day as my pre-testing stuff, so they will have very recent scans! -
Open surgery anyone?

Awesome! Thanks for the hope! Is it amazingly different to wake up to lap surgery as opposed to open? -
Why do pre and post-op diets differ so much?
MindiJean posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My friend in scheduled for the Sleeve two weeks from today. Mine is scheduled for November 20. Our suggested diets are very different. She has started Protein Shakes, 1 to 3 a day. My surgeon/Nut doesn't like using Protein shakes at all. She will be on a liquid only diet for two to four weeks out. My diet calls for pureed foods on day two. Her diet says she can eat pork and beef, six weeks out. My diet calls for no beef or pork until at least six MONTHS out. I had someone else, who had the surgery a few months ago, suggest to me that I have a bad nutritionist and to not follow what she said. Thoughts? -
Open surgery anyone?

Oh he is aware. I have a hernia the size of a basketball and originally went to him regarding hernia surgery. He wants me to lose weight (quickly, before the hernia strangulates my bowels and my stoma), he is the one who suggested the WLS first. I haven't read yet where anyone has had to have open surgery?
