  1. Yes, I was normal weight as a child and teenager. After suffering a bad miscarriage at age 20, I started going up and down with my weight. When I was younger I was more active and walked alot. I also was given healthy food choices as a child, with treats of limited junk foods. I enjoyed fruits and still do today, but now I am a diabetic and have to watch my intact of fruits.

    KAISER

I did my Options classes at the Palmdale Facility. My surgery is scheduled for September 16, 2013. I am a little disappointed that I have to wait until next month. The first date they gave me was August 27, but too close to the date that I will be traveling on a plane, so that date was out! My hair stylist scared me a little, she does the hair of two of my colleagues that had the gastric by pass surgery and their hair failed out.
  3. My pre-op diet is liquids the day before the surgery.
  4. September 16, 2013! I do not see my first post to this thread, weird.
  5. Hi This morning the scheduler offered me the dates of 8/27 or 8/28 however I will be traveling the week of Sept. 3, so those dates were out. I am scheduled to have surgery on September 16, 2013. Yes, finally I can start count down to my new beginning!
  6. I went to see the surgeon today at Kaiser WLA. Dr. said I was a good candidate for gastric by pass because of being a diabetic for over 10 years and my acid reflux. However, I informed him that I would prefer to have the gastric sleeve. He stated the acid reflux may get worse. However, he is also going to repair my hiatel hernia which may help with that issue. The scheduler should be calling in a few days. I am very excited and anxious for the exact date.

    KAISER

Isereno, Thank you so much for the link.
  9. Hi Everyone, I took my Options classes in Palmdale, but I am having my surgery at Kaiser WLA. I will see Dr. Um on 7/25/13. Hopefully, everything will be fine for them to schedule my surgery soon. How many days did any of you do the liquid diet before surgery? How quickly did Kaiser schedule your surgery after you meet with the surgeon.? Also how many days did any of you stay in the hospital? I am excited and a little anxiety regarding the surgery.

    KAISER

Hi Isereno, Thank you for replying to my post. I am going to Kaiser West Los Angeles. I decided to ge there instead of the outside physician I was going to originally go to who was scheduling for Sept. an October. The RN told me that this kaiser was about 3 weeks out for surgery, if my all my tests were ok. So, I hoping and praying I get a surgery date on Thursday.
  11. A few of my family members know of me opting to have WLS. Many of my colleagues at work know because I finally finished the Kaiser options classes and I was very excited. Actually, I am very comfortable with telling those at work. I can name at least 6 people at work that have had WLS of some kind. I actually run into one colleague making up one of her classes in my class, however she has not had surgery and I have never approached her my decision.

    Too "small" for surgery?

I borderlined between 35 and 40 BMI for years. I talked to my primary doctor on several different occasions that I wanted the WLS. She told me I did not qualify and for me not to gain back weigh I had recently lost to qualify. Finally, the beginning of this year she stated that Kaiser lower the BMI to 35 with medical conditions. I have had diabetes for over 13 years, then came the high cholesterol, GERD , fatty liver, arthritis and Asthma. My BMI is just below 35 now, because of the pre-op weight loss, which I am struggling to either maintain or lose more! The Nurse even said that I seemed too small and how did I qualify, then should look in my files and stated oh because of the Diabetes. However, I have been larger and struggle to keep those pounds off, but still have all the above medical conditions. My mother is severely overweight and she has many medical problems. She has lost a lot of weight, but the damage to her heart has been done. I do not want to continue following in her footsteps. My father had diabetes and died at age 50 of heart problems. I want to give myself a better quality of life.

Monday will be my new beginning!

    Congratulations!
  14. I hope I will get a August surgery date also. I decided to travel to WLA instead of the local dr. in my area so I can get in earlier. The Palmdale doctor is taking almost a month off for vacation and some of Sept. surgery schedule is already booked. I see the surgery next Thursday at Kaiser WLA. My drink of choice was juice, so I finally gave it up and drinking more water. Unfortunately, I still crave it. I have a teenager and adult daughter in the home and that is all that they drink, although it is 100% juice, I know eating my fruit is better for me.

    Newbie

Hello everyone, I have not had my surgery yet. I started the Kaiser Options classes on 2 /25/13 and finished 6/3/13 due to making up classes because of jury duty obligations. I had my first consultation with the bariatric clinic on 6/28/13. I was cleared for surgery on 7/10/13. I live in Lancaster, California and I have three options of where to have my surgery, Palmdale with an outside surgeon or with a Kaiser dr. Bakersfield or WLA. I chose the Palmdale surgeon and was I told could possibly have surgery in August. Unfortunately, the dr. will be on vacation the whole month of August. Now, I am told Sept or even October. I was given this information on 7/12/13 by the dr 's office. I am not considering having the surgery done at Kaiser WLA if I can have it done sooner than later. Has anyone had surgery at Palmdale Regional Center or Kaiser WLA?
