Awesome not to stuff self with food.

Thank you, Linda for the encouraging words. I'm in SW Florida and the weather is already nice, in the 80's, but I am looking forward to putting on a bathing suit again. Even with a pool, I hated the thought of putting on a bathing suit at my weight. By the way, I don't know why you think I'm younger than you, but I am actually in my early 70's so I did do this for my health and my kids and grandkids. Keep up the good work, we'll both look amazing by the summer.

Awesome not to stuff self with food.

I know how you feel, Linda, about how your health has improved. I am a type 2 diabetic, 3 months out from surgery, and I am off my insulin and down from 2 Glucovance pills and 2 Metformin pills to only one Metformin a day. Also, no more sleep apnea or GERD since I also had the hernia repair. I am so happy I had the sleeve...it was the best Christmas present I gave myself. Good luck to you. Betty

    Steristrips?

I was also told to let them loosen and come off by themselves in the shower. It took a couple of weeks until they were entirely off. I showered everyday even while I still had the drain in and they were fine.

    8 week stall

I am at 211 lbs. 3 months out and am only allowed between 800 to 1000 calories a day. Maybe check your calories.

    H Pylori

I don't understand why your surgeon is making you wait 3 months for an antibiotic. I developed bronchitis 2 weeks after surgery and was put on antibiotics right away. Even after 5 days, I was not better, so my PCP put me another round of antibiotics for 7 days. I still lost weight during that time.

Anyone get a cold/flu post surgery?

Hi Onedaycloser, Yes, we've been here in Cape Coral for 26 years...love it except I still miss family in New Jersey.

Anyone get a cold/flu post surgery?

My surgeon told me that over the counter drugs, including Advil and Aleve are ok with the sleeve. It's with the bypass that you can't take these drugs.

Anyone get a cold/flu post surgery?

I think you should make an appointment with your PCP. I got bronchitis 2 weeks after surgery and was put on an antibiotic and a cough syrup with codeine. Try to at least get in your fluids, you don't want to get dehydrated. Take care of yourself and feel better soon.

Those of you who had a drain...

Sorry to say mine took about 3 weeks to close and it did look gross. I thought mine was getting infected so I showed it to my primary doctor. He said it was ok, just keep it clean with antibacterial soap and keep it dry in between showering. I kept it covered mostly with a bandaid and it slowly closed.

Going to Italy - Food Advice Needed

Hi, I was in Italy two years ago, mostly Rome, florence, Umbria and Tuscany. I found that at most restaurants they have many courses. You can order Soup as a first course, many of which have Beans in it, second course is usually a Pasta, then the third course is meat and potatoes. So you can skip the pasta, just order soup and/or the meat course. If you do want pasta, get it with a light marinara sauce, try to stay away from the cream sauces. I found the breads to not be that appetizing so you can skip that. Breakfast you can always order eggs, also several choices of meat, although prosciutti can be highly salty. They do have many pastries, so be careful with them, although I had a pastry every morning for breakfast along with my cappacino. I would bring some Protein powder if I were you. I was there for 12 days, eating every meal, plus Desserts and gelato but never gained a pound. You will find you do a lot of walking wherever you are so you will burn calories (bring comfortable shoes). I know you will have a fantastic time. I would love to go back...it was a trip of a lifetime! Also, you have to get the gelato, it is awesome! Betty

Endo wants to bump up insulin!

I am also a type 2 diabetic and 2-1/2 months out. Like I stated above, I am still on Lantus 25 units, but I have stopped taking the one Glucovance since my sugar was dropping too low during the afternoon, like in the 70's. Also, I woke up in the middle of the night with it down in the 50's. I don't think you should just stop all meds without consulting with your doctor, especially with an A1c of 12, it could be dangerous for you. Don't be discouraged, I have also been on a stall for 3 weeks. I know how you feel, though, I did the surgery for the same reasons of yours. One good thing is that I no longer need the CPAP for my sleep apnea, so I am thrilled about that. From a former New Jerseyan, stay strong and don't give up, I'm hopeful it will only get better for both of us. Take care, Betty

    hair loss

If you're not on Biotin, I would suggest getting that at a drug store or on line. I'm using 10,000 mg. and so far, so good. It's a Vitamin for healthy hair and nails. I've seen other people on this website who also recommend it. Good luck.
  13. I have been drinking decaf coffee since 2 wks. before my surgery with sugar-free coffee creamer. I don't use sugar but we are allowed to use truvia or stevia, also Crystal lite has splenda in it, so it is allowed by my doctor. I'm 2-12 months out and will ask my surgeon when I see him next week when I can go back to caffeinated coffee...I do miss it.

Endo wants to bump up insulin!

I'm so sorry you are having this problem with your diabetes. I am also type 2, 2-1/2 months out and lost 30 lbs. since surgery. Before surgery I was on Lantus 45 units, 2 glucovance and 1 metformin a day. I'm now down to 25 units of insulin and only 1 glucovance a day, my fasting sugar is in the 90's and in the 120's before bed. Since you are only 3 wks. out, it might take a little longer, but don't be discouraged...it will come down. My A1C also dropped from 8.9 to 7.4, which is still high so I'm also hoping for it come down more to the point where I no longer need the meds. I'm with you, I did this surgery because of the diabetes, also high blood pressure and sleep apnea. I'm also sleeping better and do not need the CPAP anymore. Good luck, don't get discouraged, you did the right thing by having the surgery, just give yourself a little more time. Betty

    Suggestions on Cold Medicine

I had bronchitis two weeks after surgery and my surgeon put me on 5 days of an antibiotic pill, which was followed by another n days of an antibiotic by my primary care doctor. I had no problems with them.

    Books

I recommend the same as Jen40...The Big Book on the Gastric Sleeve by Alex Brecher. He's also the founder of this website. It gives you all the information you need for before, during and after the sleeve. Good luck. I also bought mine on Amazon.com.

    A Call for LDS sleevers!

It's just a thin wafer, so take the sacrament. Mine usually just melts on the top of my mouth.

    How long before driving?

I'm sorry if my answer was confusing...I was only on pain meds a few days, but it was 8 days before I had the drain removed. I suppose I could have driven with the drain still attached, but my husband and I are retired so I let him do the driving...lol.
  19. capecoralgrandma

    How long before driving?

I was able to drive once I was off pain meds and my drain was removed, which was 8 days after surgery.

    Driving...Post Operation

I drove after 1 week, once the drain was removed, and by that time, I was off the pain meds. Good luck.

    Same weight

I'm in the same boat! Two weeks and I actually gained two lbs. What gives with that??
  22. capecoralgrandma

    weight

I'm in a stall right now. I lost 26 lbs. the first 7 wks., now at almost 9 wks., I haven't lost, as a matter of fact, I'm up two lbs....what gives??

    Protein bars

I also love Quest bars. I ordered a box from Amazon, also bought some at a health food store.

    Severely Light Headed!

I still get lightheaded at times but I think it's my blood pressure dropping (I'm a lot older than you...), but like someone else said, you could be dehydrated. Make sure you're getting in all your fluids. Good luck. Betty
  25. I have to laugh because I never told my husband how much I weighed, but when I went to my post-op visit with my surgeon, he did see the scale so now knows what I weigh. At this point, it doesn't much matter. When I get to my goal, I will be happy to share that good news with him.
