  1. I was wondering is anyone's goal weight within the healthy BMI range? I was talking to the friend that first got me interested in Lap band (her sister had it done a few years ago) and I told her that I was hoping to get down to 115-120 lbs which would put me in the healthy BMI range (I'm only 5'2) She started laughing and said the there's no way to reach that with lap band? I was crushed, I know the band is a tool but I didn't go through all this to still be considered overweight. I am willing to work my @$$ off at the gym and eat healthier but what's the point if I'm still overweight. If I wanted to still be overweight but a little lighter then I would have tried another stupid diet where I shed a few pounds and hope for the best. My surgery date is Oct. 2nd and I'm getting bummed out about even going through with it. I didn't want to do gastric but I don't want to still be fat either. What's the point if I can't be healthy? 2. Hi everyone,

I just got my band date (October 2nd) and I'm trying to avoid or lessen the farewell tour. So here's my question. What food did you or do you think that you would never eat again? I'm not trying to come across like I'm already defeated and will miss those food but I realize that certain thing I will need to stay away from like Kryptonite.

For me, I will miss the delicious Stake and shake milkshakes especially the banana Split, the super high calorie coffee drinks, and the oversized Panera Bagels. :eyebrows:

    What's your kryptonite??

  3. Hi banded teachers, I'm in sort of a pickle.

The nurse called me today and said that we have a tenative surgery date for Oct. 2nd. :clap2: However, at our school that week is homecoming week and I'm in charge of our student council (student government). This is a big week and the kids put in lots of work to get ready for the parade and dance that Saturday.

Here's my delimma (sp?) I can have the surgery and take the rest of the week off yet still come in afterschool to supervise the kids working on their floats for the parade (I only live about 5 minutes from my school) OR I can postpone my surgery (which I really don't want to do)

    What do you think???:help:

  4. Hey Forestcat5,

I am going to Dr Brethauer at the Cleveland Clinic, I've heard good things about St Vincent too. Anyway, I just found out that I was approved by insurance last week and I have to call the nurse tomorrow for scheduling my surgery. I can't wait... Well it looks like it just me and u from NE Oh so let's keep in touch

  5. I just told them I had to have a procedure done. I'm not one that gives out a lot of personal information so they didn't ask. I didn't tell them specifically because I don't want to have to deal with the 'how much have you lost' inquiries on a regular basis. When I lose weight I will tell them how because there are several others that could benefit from it.

I'm doing the same thing. I did tell my co-workers that I have to have surgery but I did not say what is being done. I do plan to tell people afterwards, when I feel the time is right, (when I am happy with my weight loss) because I would also like to tell some co-workers about the band becuase I too think that they could benifit as well. (is that bad to say??)

  6. I had to share this with someone. I just got off the phone with my insurance and they said that my plan does not exclude wls as long as I meet the criteria (note form the doc, psych, BMI...) They said once they get the info from the dr. office they usually give thier response in a couple of day. Sometimes even the same day if everything I is in order. Tomorrow I finish all my pre-testing and then they can send everything off begininng of next week. Looks like I'll finally be getting my date. :whoo::whoo::whoo:

Since most of my friends and family don't really approve of getting the band, or know about it I had to share this news with someone. (they all think I should "just quit eating so much or exercise more :))

Keep your fingers crossed, and hope that everything works out.

    Thanks for listening, well reading

  7. I've got two. The first is "are you pregnant?" Which of course I'm not.

The other is from this guy that I was in love with forever. He ran into someone that we went to high school with and said, "man that guy must hae gian like 30 lbs. I wonder how could you let yourself go like that. It must really suck to realize that you peaked in high school." I of course have gain WAY more then 30 lbs since high school and really took offense, and began to wonder if he thought the same thing about me. :cry (what a jerk) Needless to say, I didn't tell him I was going to be banded.

  8. Thanks for the update, I too was wondering if she finally made it through. Tell her congratualtions, and make sure to let her know that many of us were praying for her this time and would like to her from her when she's feeling up to it. (I'm so happy I feel, like I was the one getting banded)

    :whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::clap2::clap2::clap2::biggrin1::biggrin1:....

  9. I find myself suddenly realizing that summer break is almost over so I got to wondering, where are all my banded (and pre-banded) teachers from and when do you return to school. (Does anyone go back after Labor Day anymore???)

So I'll start. I teach in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio and we return to school August 27th. (kids come back on the 28th). There is a private school around the corner that went back Aug. 8th!!!(couldn't believe that)

so when do you go back??? :ranger:

BTW-my sugery will be either in late Sept. or early October. (depends on how quickly I get ins. approval)

  10. Congrats on your date. I'm already to begin to get nervous for my september date, I was even considering not going through with it but I just think about how anxious and excited I was to have the surgery and that seems to calm me down. Good luck and let us know how your doing.

  11. Here's my studip teenage diet. I was on the track team and every week before the big meet we would go out to load up on carbs, for energy in the morning. The problem was I wasn't a runner, I threw shotput. Anyway a friend on the team said to eat whatever you want but then flush your system with shredded wheat, lots and lots of Water and then take a laxative. I followed that plan all the way through my first two years in college. As a result, freshman 15 was more like freshman 50.

  12. Jsrico......you will be there in no time at all. I went to my primary doc yesterday and what a thrill to see the bottom part of the scale on 150 and move the top one. I was so used to it going to the 200 and then moving the top on (not sure if that makes sense).

    Keep up the good work!

Metalband I totally get what your saying. I call the bottom part the clunks cuz thats the sound the scales seems to make when you move to the next 50 up. I call the top the tap part cuz thats how the doc moves it by tapping it aroud. (just my bizzare take on the dr. scale) :guess

As for me, I can wait to enter onederland. I hope to run past the border and find a good place to settle in maybe around the middle. no more onederland visits :clap2:

  13. I too am a recovering carb-addict. I just had to quit cold turkey and avoid them at all cost. I would eat a whole pack of Oreo's in 1 or 2 sittings. I realized thing were getting bad when I was telling my kids not to eat anymore chips, Cookies ect. then would leave the room to eat the stash I had in another room. The worst was when I realized at the end of a day that I had only eaten carbs that day (no meats, no fruit and no veggies.) Even now when carbs and Snacks are around I have a really hard time.

  14. Totally agree,

I have been on a pre-op protien diet for about a month and have been struggling. I go to meet the surgeon tomorrow and am down cuz I didn't lose the amount of weight that I wanted to lose. (Darn those delicious snacks) :) At least I still work out, thats my only saving grace.

So I've come to the conclusion that it's so not worth it, the cheating I mean but I just have to get the willpower to overcome it.

    Good luck
