  1. Hi everyone,

I just signed up for the Beast cancer 3-day walk. I can't believe it 3-days 20 miles per day is this insane?? I occasionally work out but this is going to be a challenge. I could really use your words of encouragement especially as I begin my training.

    Thanks.

(By the way my ticker is probably way off. My current wt. is 165 lbs.)

More info on the walk. Welcome to the Breast Cancer 3-Day: Home

  2. Hi fellow tens,

    :rain:

It's been a while since my last post but here's what's happening. Since my surgery 10/2 I have been feeling good about my weight loss. (lost 15 pounds the first week; down 20+ lbs. altogether, even had to buy some new smaller clothes) When I went back or my 2nd fill the nurse said I hadn't loss anything in the past month (I thought I had loss about 5-10 pounds) since then I've totally falled off the bandwagon, going back to my old eating ways. I even has a small binge eating episode today. I feel awful, and sick (sick b/c of the band) . I know this is my fault and I know that I know better then this but I just can't seem to get back on track. Any words of support? :help: (P.S- I don't know what my signature says but I'm in the mid-170's)

  3. Hi Onmywaytofit,

I went to the Cleveland Clinic and had nothing but positive experiences. I know that there are other hospitals in Cleveland that do the band and I thought I saw a commerical for Summa hospitals recently on TV.

Just adding some other options so you don't have to travel so far.

  4. Hey Forrestcat and Terrisch,

Glad to hear you both doing well. I had my first fill last week but don't notice a difference yet in feeling full. However I am staying full longer. My second fill is the 5th of December, if not sooner(My doc said to come back in 2weeks if I'm not seeing results). When is your Terrisch?

Forrestcat, 30 pound is 30 lbs. Although I do understand why you feel that way. When people ask me how much I lost I tell them from my surgery weight and not my pre-dieting weight. But still be proud of your accomplishments.

Have any of you made any mini-goals yet or had any milestones???

    Talk to you soon

  5. Hey Tens,

I was thinking we need a place to share all of our little milestones. Even though my scale does not want to move I had two moments today. The first was that I could not find anything to wear b/c all my day to day clothes were swallowing me, so i found a pair of pants from my smaller years and THEY FIT!!!!! :whoo: Then when I got to work multiple people began to say WOW you're slimming down.

    What are your milestones????

  6. Here's what I was told when trying to decide on the Cleveland Clinic. I was told that the Cleveland Clinic is world renowned for hospital can't go wrong. I was banded at the Clinic in Cleveland but I'm sure the standards and procedure should be the same, and the staff should be the best in thier fields in your area.

    Hope that helped.

  7. My actual healthy wieght is below 120 since I'm short but getting anywhere in the 140's or 130's and I would be thrilled. I lost alot during the pre-insuarance stages so right now I'm making mini-goals. My current mini-goal in to be close to (if not in) the 150s by February (my oldest childs birthday)

  8. Tomorrows the day Forestcat!!!! :whoo:I just wanted to say good luck and welcome to bandland. I was suppossed to be at the hospital at noon but didn't go into surgery until about 4. (I also has a long surgery before me.) Again good luck and don't forget to check in when you get home and feel up to it.

Terrish-With the PMS and the parties have you cheated?? I am also PMS-ing and I teach kids so these past few days have been super difficult. I have cheated and feel so bad, but I have noticed that my cheats are not as awful as before the band. I ate 3 Doritos, and a Tootsie roll. :)

  9. Great news Forestcat!!!! I am so happy for you. All is going well on my end. I"m back to work and it feels like I never had the surgery. I was getting bummed out since I am eating food now and am having a hard time feeling full. (when I realize I'm full, it's too late and I am stuffed) The good news is even though I think that I am overeating, I'm still eating less than before. I get my fill on the 7th (can't wait) and I need to get back to exercising so hopefully the pound will start flying off again.

It funny how I'm getting upset that I only lost 2 lbs in two weeks when I wasn't losing before.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you're doing.

Terrish-thanks for the fill information, I was starting to worry about that upcoming experience. Do you think you have enough in your band? Did you feel tight immediately? Can you tell when you are full better than before? Thanks?

  10. Hey Forestcat,

I feel pretty much back to normal. I went back to work last week, and by the end I felt like me again. I'm not sore anymore and have alreadt lost about 14 pounds. Occassionally my stiches itch or aches a little but I have no complaints. My first fill is November 7th, and I can't wait for regular food. How are you feeling? Does it seem real yet? Are you nervous?

  11. Sorry to take so long getting back but I wanted to wait until I was feeling like myself again. The clinc told us to do High Protein Slim-Fast drinks or Carnation Breakfast "Carb Conscience for the pre-op diet, maybe you could ask St. Vincent if that would be acceptable. I hear the if you go to UH there is no pre-op diet (I didn't even know UH did banding ) Anyway in case your intersted I told my whole sugery experience on another thread. Talk to you soon.

  12. I realize that many pre-banders want to know all the details about the days after surgery not just the little moments, so here is my story. ( I had to wait a few days so that it did not sound like a moan session :fish2:)

Feel free to share yours. (Sorry about the spelling in advance)

My sugery was on Oct 2nd at the Cleveland Clinic. The per-op and surgery went as planned, and I woke up in recovery about 7:30. I was still groogy from the anesthesia (sp?). The night went by well I was on so much pain meds that I don't remeber feeling too much pain, didn't even feel sore. (Had an awful roomate, was suppossed to be a single but they didn't put me on the Bariatric wing) :) The next day, I felt very nauseous (sp?) when ever I sat up too long, but they made me walk and take some test to make sure I could swallow. It was no big deal just had to drink some awful stuff. Still on pain meds until time to go home.

Once I go home I was really sore, and couldn't find a comfortable position to rest. My stomach hurt, but I slept alot so I got through it. Day 3 and 4 were the worst. Not so much becuase of the pain but because of the gas pressure. That was probably the worst part of the whole ordeal, in fact I decided to extended my time-off from work b/c I felt so bad. However, the morning of day five I felt much better, Still sore but I could move. :whoo: I got out and walked for the next two days, but was exhausted once I got back home. On day 7 (monday) I retuned to work, just 1/2 days until tomorrow. Today was my follow-up with the doc and I weighed in at 189. :clap2:

So by now I'm doing well only one incision is still sore, and I get a pesty pain in my shoulder every now and then. I just finished the liquid diet, which wasn't to tough, because I didn't really want to eat, and now am on to mushies.

My tip from my mom, for gas pain lay on your left side. Don't know why but it worked great.(Got rid of a lot of air if you know what I mean.

Well that's my story, feel free to share yours.

  13. hi Kimmie, I'm a SP.Ed high school teacher too.

I know we've discussed this before but I'm trying to decide when to go back to work. I was banded on Tuesday, and planned to go back on Monday. At this point I don't know if that's a good idea. Since I do high school I have to move classrooms every 50 minutes. I can usually rest during the actual classes since I'm co-teaching this year but getting through the halls and handling the stairs is a little scarry to me at this point. Any advice????

  14. I was banded in the 2nd, and I'm on fully liquids for the next week or two. I knw thw importance of getting in enough protien and 64 oz of Water but I just can't get it all in so I've been working on sipping from a 34 oz bottle of water(only drank about 1/2 the bottle so far) :faint:, then stopping for a protien shake smoothie or broth every couple of hours. Am I still suppossed to wait a half an hour before drinikng again or does that not matter at this point. IS anyone else getting in all 64 oz at this point???:help:
