  1. I felt the same way. The difference is our tummies are small and we need Protein to not lose our Protein. Said in lay men's terms. All our organs, hair, nails, are made of protein. I think a Paleo diet is the way to go and the most satisfying. Ashley Horner....check her out.....fittest woman I've ever seen....she eats a Paleo diet. Veggies have free radicals that it only makes sense to incorporate them into our diet once we are through all the phases of healing. salad with Ahi tuna is a perfect example along with a Olive oil based dressing. :-).

Anything that pushes fear from both sides....it's a turn off for me. I follow my instincts and when I don't....I pay a price. Best wishes!!

  2. I haven't done granola because of the sugar. I'm sure there is a healthy option. I just haven't searched for it. I will pop a few raw almonds into my yogurt to keep me sustained. Yummy too!

  3. I've heard various amounts. I do my best to get 64oz., but usually wind up with about 42 oz. it's harder in the winter time. I don't think we sweat as much, so the need isn't as great. I make it a goal to drink a lot of Water when I'm driving to and home from work. I also drink on my breaks as much as I can.

I say trust your instincts. If we truly listen to our bodies....it tells us what we need. :-)

  4. Protein protein protein....biotin I take everyday too. I've heard mixed reviews. I was sleeved sept 28th. I'm blonde and thinner hear too, but haven't noticed a significant amount of Hair loss. What I know for sure is if it happens.....it will come back. Focus on 90 to 100 grams of protein is what my doc says. I've slipped a lil, but getting back on track with my protein. I feel more satiated also when I eat that much protein and sugar cravings subside. Best wishes!

  5. I eat fruit everyday. Sugarfree applesauce, peaches in their own juices, or pears. It helps me stay sane. My Wellness doc said it's ok. Everything in moderation. 2 1/2 c. Servings won't kill you, but getting your Protein in is key. I know I'm a sugar addict and have to be very aware of what will trigger me to crave sweets. Peaches and applesauce are ok. I've done pineapple too, but not very often. Our goal should be to chew the hell out if everything lol so it doesn't hurt our tummies. When I don't and I eat unconsciously....I pay the price. Best wishes!

  6. I have to be honest with you I'm just now three weeks and to even think of going into a restaurant or trying to eat some Pasta makes me ill. I'm lucky if I can do 2 tablespoons of just very soft food how did you do that??? is this possibly an age thing guys because really I'm having a hard time recoverin. Im 46 years old.

I'm 44 and went through 2 weeks of severe pain before it subsided. A month of soft foods. I eat completely normal food now. However, I must always be aware of what and how much I'm putting in my mouth. I cannot talk on the phone or watch TV when I am eating. Conscious eating is key to not putting too much in our mouths. I have heard that recovery is harder when the hernia is repaired. My doc said there is better weightloss though. Not sure I'd want that struggle.

46 is definitely not old. Our cells regenerate every 5 years! I'm a whole new person than I was 5 years ago! :-). I can only imagine where I will be in 5 years from now. The battle to focus on good is hard when we are in pain. I wish you perfect health and a happy NEW year!

  7. Olive Garden now has great options on the Appetizer menu! chicken on skewers and grilled asparagus. I was only able to eat some of the chicken. I took the rest home with the asparagus for an additional meal. :-) I know I cannot do any white flour or white sugar as I was an addict. It triggers me to want more. pizza is a noooo go. There are healthy alternatives and thousands of recipes out there for us to focus on that are good for us. Self sabotage is deadly for us. We didn't go through all of this to go backwards. Make you a priority! Happy healthy New Year!

  8. Dr never beat yourself up. Just make a different choice to do what is right for you physically. Sometimes at work I get so busy I forget to drink enough Water. I make it a mission to get one of my water bottles drank before I get home from work. I have a 30 to 45 min drive. A lil flavoring in the water helps at times too. Right now it's winter and we aren't sweating like we do in the summer so thirst isn't as present. Setting an alarm on your phone as a reminder to drink water might help too. :-). Best wishes! Remember this journey starts in our mind. :-)

  9. Your new tummy only holds so much. I was hungry every 4 hours. That's normal. Before surgery we would eat so much that we wouldn't be hungry for 6 to 8 hours. Healthy people eat small meals every 2 hours. :-)

  10. Just got my approval letter in the mail. Just waiting to hear from my dr. to set up a date. can't wait to get this going!

Congratulations!!! Your new chapter will be extremely rewarding. It will be tough at times, but after 2 1/2 months I feel amazing! I wish for you a smooth process. :-)

  11. It has been 5 months since surgery and I'd like some new recipes! I'm burnt out of boiled eggs, tuna, and canned chicken! I need to spice things up any suggestions?

I just made some mini green enchiladas in cupcake tins. Easy recipe. Sauté some diced onions, chicken breast, salt and pepper. Add the green enchilada sauce. Line low carb tortillas in the tins and layer in refried Beans (1 Tblspn), chicken with sauce and top with cheese. Cook in 325 for 30 mins. Yummy! I let cool and put 3 per bag for each meal. My whole family loved them. I like easy and this was it! I found it on a link, but can't remember the link, so I thought I'd share with you the best recipe I've made since surgery. :-) email me with questions.

  12. I need it a co morbid issue since my BMI is at 47 not. 50. I got tested for sleep apnea, it showed I do have sleep apnea they sent me again Nov 12 yes I have it. They said I need it the c pap machine to "back me up" with the insurance well up to now I'm still waiting on the doctors office to call me with the c pap information. I called last Tuesday I was told I would get a call back and NOTHING I called today and the office manger told me she had sent everything to my insurance she was going to check my file if there is something there she would call me back if there isn't then she wasn't going to call me back. Well I took matters into my own hands I called my insurance to see if it had been submitted. They told me I have followed everything and I should be ready to go the only thing there waiting for is for a date that's the only way they could approve me. So I don't know why my doctors office isn't telling me that. I have followed everything on my list I started this in march. I have met my deductible already so I'm praying I get the sleeve this month. Sorry I had to vent!! Should I call my doctors office and let them know I talked to my insurance? There not too friendly but the doctor is awesome. I'm so confused and don't know what to do.

Get a new doctor! I never had these issues, but I was on them like white on rice. However, my doctor and his assistants were great! I wanted to get my surgery in a certain time frame to get back to work before the busy season started. In turn, I called my insurance everyday to see where in the process it was until the medical director signed off. Then I pressed the docs office to schedule me as early as possible. I even had my surgery on a Saturday. If they are not nice....tell them. There are many options out there. Once your medical insurance approves....go somewhere else and tell them why. Take your power back. It's your health and body, not theirs. Sometimes making them aware of their behavior will help, but if it doesn't....see ya! I've done this with dentists and doctors offices that make you wait far too long or don't have great customer service. That is what we are and they need to remember that. If you're in Vegas, let me know.

  13. I'm having a difficult time getting in all my fluids. I used to drink fluids all day long but through a straw. I hate drinking without it. I'm 6 weeks out and just can't get used to it. I feel like (as long as I don't hurt my sleeve) I could get in a lot more Water if I went back to using a straw. Thoughts??

I use my Camelback sports bottle and gulp Water and I've used a straw. Neither affect me. I believe we are all different. Try it a little and if it doesn't work....don't do it again. Doctors and nutritionist are not the end all be all. They are for the most part taking generalized studies and translating that information. Don't mind me.....I'm a person who always questions all aspects of information. Interesting what you will find. :-) best wishes!!!

  14. Unflavored Unjury was a God send for me. The sweet Protein Drinks made me gag. I was able to make my own chocolate/ Peanut Butter smoothies myself with unsweetened cocoa, PB2 powdered peanut butter, and stevia to my sweetness liking. I still drink them today because they are that good. I did eat Jello, but can't stomach it now. Everyone is right....don't buy a lot. You don't know what you will like after surgery anyway. You're safe with the Popsicles and jello. Jello was something to chew. Ice may not work. Some people reject it. Best wishes!!!

  15. I need someone to make me feel better about this...because I'm a worrier.

My surgeon warned me that this would probably be my worst day because swelling is at peak, etc. but I just wanted to know if there are others who experienced the same thing.

My incisions are fine, there's no sign of infection, etc...I just can't get comfortable. I'm sure some of this is weakness from not being able to drink enough, etc...but there is progress. Today I got down 2 16 oz bottles of Water and yesterday I could barely do an ounce or two an hour.

I'm so tired of being in pain....help.

I hope you're feeling better today. The gas pains can be difficult and I agree....pain meds are absolutely necessary for as long as you need them. I needed them for 2 weeks. Less and less each day was necessary, but I was happy to have my liquid pain medicine. What helped me get through it all was to breath through it, reach out for support (like you have), and remember that the pain is temporary. I gave myself permission to cry, moan, and say what I wanted through the pain. It's ok to express it. I wish you a speedy recovering and look forward to hearing your success story!! Best wishes!!

  16. Hi all! Checking in. I love reading everyone's updates ! I'm 10 weeks post op & down 55 pounds. Couldn't be happier.

I am struggling to find low-cal creative ways to get my Protein in, beyond chicken, fish, & Greek yogurt. Lol.

    Happy thanksgiving all!!

Shrimp is great with so many different spices. I focus on protein intake. I found some great recipes I can make ahead and freeze. I'm making mini enchiladas in cupcake tins this weekend. :-). I did eggs with different veggies and meats in cup cake tins. I heat them up and off I go.
