    PBs and Slime

Got the pb down but still don't know what sliming is! Is it the same? Faithmd, I think you know this board inside and out!
  2. I am so glad I read this thread. I'm a pre-bandster and I know that there is part of me that wants to lose 50 lbs. in no time! The advice and cheers not only helped finallythin (hopefully!), but me too. why the heck is it so easy to gain 5 pounds, but hard as hell to LOSE it?????
  3. The psychologist I've seen gave me a fabulous book, Emotional Eating. I swear at least half the book was me. Some of it was stuff I knew already, but definitely needed to read again. Have just the last chapter to read. So many of us who need to lose weight are emotional eaters - maybe all of us???? Because I use food to deal with stress and boredom the psychologist thought this was a good book for me. Hopefully I'll have the wonderful full feeling after I get banded (August?) that I won't want to eat, but I'll still have stress and some boredom in my life. Looking for a new hobby to replace eating:), but haven't found one yet! Funny - she said according to my test, I handle stress very well. Of course I do - I EAT it away!

    Freakin' Out in Michigan

Thanks. I did read your reply when it was first posted but didn't have time to reply. I hate insurance companies - burnt too many times - so I called the rep at my doc's office. She was wonderful. I have bcbs and she sent me the "Anthem" and I feel so much better! If my paperwork hasn't been sent in yet it should be tomorrow. According to the anthem - whatever the heck that means - I definitely meet the requirements since I have comorbidities. Thank goodness I do because my bmi is 35. Are you a doctor? Figure you are with the md in your name and the codes that you knew. Thanks for replying. No one else did, but I really didn't expect it. It just felt good to type away my stress!
  5. :omg: Hoping to have surgery in Aug. My insurance co. pays for it - 100% - yes VERY LUCKY, but I still don't know what the insurance company's prerequisites are. Until today I have been cruising along with hardly a minute of nerves. Today I am a basket case! :help: Met with the Psych last Friday, and she passed me with flying colors. Said I should do very well post op. Talking to the dietician this week sometime. She's calling me instead of meeting with her since the dr. office is over 3 hours a way. Seems like everything is going really well, huh? So why the heck am I freaking out????????????? I want to cry, :think but my boys have a friend here. I pigged out on cheesecake. I know - shouldn't have bought it, but a month ago I told my youngest the next time I went to Sam's I'd buy it. So there it sits in the fridge...2 pieces down...thank God I have this place to read everyone's messages and just vent...Thans for reading my rant... Just figured out how to use these icons...
  6. I'm a "soda-holic" too, but have been trying to drink more iced tea. I LOVE Diet Coke. The tea has helped though. Having surgery in Aug. hopefully so that gives me a month to cut out the soda (and occasional beer:))
  7. There is a thread for lowere bmi'ers. I had the same question. My bmi is 35 or 36. Can't remember the thread title, but won't take you long to find it. It ahs some good info. Hopefully getting my band in Aug. How much do you want to lose. I'd be happy with 40, but would love 60. If I lost tyh 80 or so to get to the ideal bmi I think I'd feel like an alien! Good luck on the 17th!

Thanks Minnie! LIfe's been better since I last wrote. My daughter passed her driver test with flying colors and I haven't binged on anything since the cheesecake! Hoping to have surgery in Aug. I'm a teacher and go back to school right before Labor Day. I think my paperwork was sent in earlier this week. Will check with the dr office tomorrow. Hoping BCBS won't hassle me. Have a lower bmi but also have high blood pressure and am prediabetic. I have excellent insurance - one of the perks to being a poorly paid teacher! My surgery is covered at 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am SO excited! Texgal, how were your appts? What about you Minnie? what's your status.

Not nuts, but feeling like am today. I am totally stressed and having these awful feelings that my insurance isn't going to cover me. I 've had a very stressful day. My daughter failed her drivers test because she freaked out trying to park. She is actually a decent driver for a 16 year old. Of course she was bawling and I was trying to keep it all together...Anyway - I pigged out on cheesecake so I feel lousy and I think I am just hoping the day will soon end and I can start tomorrow! Anyway, the psychologist told me I will do really well with lap band. I have to see her again on Friday and am waiting to talk to the dietician. she is supposed to call me. My dr. is 3 1/2 hours from here so to avoid lots of trips she will call me instead of my driving to her. Pretty nice... What is your next step toward surgery? Do you have a lot to lose? I guess we all have a lot, but I would be SO happy to lose 40, ecstatic with 60 and if I actually lost the 80 or so to get to a 23 or so BMI I think I'd feel like an alien. Haven't weighed that little since I was 16 and I'm soon to be 43!
  12. LOL My husband will be glad to get this report! this is my favorite thread..........

    Newbie...New Orleans area

Welcome Big Guy and Jtag! I just joined the bandsters this week and this forum has been a Godsend! I'm hoping my surgery will be in August. How I made the decision - I'm basically a positive person - except when it comes to my weight issue which I've battled all my life. when I was in high school I weighed between 135 and 150 - yep thought I was fat! I'm 5'8". Then when I got married I thought I was fat. Then I had a kid and another and another. Now I AM fat! Anyway, my sister (who is so incredibly thin and has been all her life) sent me a DVD of "The Secret". I guess she heard about it on Oprah. It's a little hokey, but the message of positve thinking just really stuck. For some reason I looked at my weight issue a little differently that day and just believed I would lose weight. I had no idea how. That was just a month ago. One night about 3 weeks ago I just decided on a whim to Google "lap band". I spent about 3 hours researching the procedure and doctors. The doctor I've chose is 3 1/2 hours away, but I'm happy with my choice. I just feel an incredible draw to him! The next morning as I was getting ready for work I turned on the tv and there was a commercial for lap band! I knew it was meant to be! Had my psych eval today and I "passed" with flying colors. The pyschologist told me she thought I'd do really well even with the pre surgery liquid diet. That's the only part of this whole process that I'm a little concerned about. all I need to do is talk to the dietician and my paprework will be sent in to insurance. I will be talking to her some time next week. They are allowing me to talk to her over the phone because of the distance. With everyone's summer vacations I couldn't get both appts at the same time BE POSITIVE:)

    confused re:diet before surgery

I had my psych eval today - I'm not nuts:) She said I'm a great candidate - yea!!!!! when I was talking to the psychologist today I told her I feel like this surgery ( no date yet) is a gift. So, if I don't stick to the pre surgery diet it will be like throwing the gift in the garbage. I am so ready. I just wanted to walk across the building and find an empty OR!
  16. nursesds - good for you! I'm jealous too - still waiting!

    confused re:diet before surgery

I am so with ya girl! 2 weeks on a liquid diet for someone who eats all day???????????????????????? That's probably the only part of this whole process that i'm nervous about. Do you have a surgery date yet? Are you approved if you have insurance? I'm hopefully getting banded in Aug.
  18. sbee - I'm in the process of getting approval and I haven't told many people either - hubby, kids, parents and sister and 2 friends. These people all know what I've gone through with weight issues all of my life and everyone is SO supportive. I don't want to tell everyone because I know some will not "approve", and I don't want to have to defend my decision. It's hard though because I'm a very open person and my life is pretty much an open book. I'm excited aobut getting banded and just want everyone to know! Thank God for this forum!

Minnie -how did it go? Still nervous? I'm more excited than nervous. Have my psych tomorrow. Hope I'm not nuts!!!!!
  22. Hopefully will be banded in early August and am really excited. From all I've read the average weight loss in a year is 50% of your excess weight. What I'd really like to know is how much weight have you lost in the first month or so? My BMI is 35-36. Much of what I've read has people with a higher BMI so I wonder if I will lose more slowly...I have about 70--80 pounds to lose to get to my so-called ideal weight. I don't even care if I get down that low. I'd be happy to lose 40, but would really like to los 60 or so.

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Hi Everyone! Someone - can't remember who - referred me to this thread. I just found this forum 2 nights ago and think I'm addicted to it! Maybe I can do this instead of eating when I'm bored! Two nights ago I was up until 4:30 a.m. reading and reading and reading thread after thread! Good thing I'm a teacher on summer break with teenagers who do their own thing:) Hopefully getting banded in late July - early Aug. Really excited and glad to find this thread. I'm not too nervous about the surgery, but I do wonder if I will get bummed if I don't lose weight quickly. Oh well, better to lose 10 pounds than 0, right? Question - Do all doctors put you on a liquid diet beforehand? For how long propr to surgery? HOW in the world do you stick to it? I mean, we all ate a lot to get where we are/wer, huh? That makes me a bit nervous. Thanks!

How much weight loss at first?

True. I'd really prefer not to have to have plastice surgery for saggy skin. I's be really happy to lose at least 40 pounds, but 80 would get me to aBMI of 24 or25. I see the psychologist tomorrow too! Hope I "pass"!
